Esnyr Ranollo talks us through HAYSKUL CRUSH MOMENTS, his biggest production yet, and the magic of shared nostalgia.

Ah, high school. There’s no experience quite like it. After some time passes, we look back on our teen years with a mixture of embarrassment, amusement, and perhaps even a hint of fondness. What a simpler time.

Plenty of TikTok creators riff on the high school experience in their content, but one creator is known for capturing it in a distinct way through dedicated, high-effort executions. Esnyr Ranollo, or esnyrrr on his socials, grew to become one of the most popular content creators over the past couple of years. His high school skits, featuring a roster of distinct characters based on people in the high school setting, has earned him millions of views, likes, and followers over on TikTok.

Every may school program talaga😭✋🏼

The way he’s able to reenact core high school experiences in an engaging and relatable way—by himself, no less—shows his creativity and commitment to entertaining his audience. Recently, Esnyr took that to the next level on his most ambitious project yet: HAYSKUL CRUSH MOMENTS. The 12-minute YouTube skit is set in an actual school, was done with a cast and crew, and features a handful of storylines all about those core high school crush moments that we’re all too familiar with.

Esnyr’s HAYSKUL CRUSH MOMENTS has now reached over three million views in just four days, and we caught up with the content creator regarding the big production, his growth as a creator and artist, and telling stories that resonate. Read on for what he had to say below.

UNIVERSAL EXPERIENCES

esnyr ranollo hayskul crush moments

Featuring Esnyr himself in about a dozen roles (yes, we counted), the start of a potential new love team to root for with the introduction of main love interest DLSU-Dasmariñas student Shan Vesagas, and several cast members to fill the school halls, HAYSKUL CRUSH MOMENTS is a compilation of classic, cheesy, or even cringy high school romance tropes and moments.

In true Esnyr form, he plays each role so well that you almost can’t believe they’re all played by the same person. From rowdy basketball varsity guys to quiet, judgmental loners, he hits the nail on the head of several student archetypes. Each line, action, or microexpression between the pairs or couples shifts each of his characters further and further away from each other—a testament to the characterization and portrayal of each persona.

The character of Precious and her “love story” with newbie Shan takes a front seat in this video, and Esnyr admits he’s got a bit more love for her than other characters. “She just reminds me of mga kaklase ko na dating kinikilig sa classroom,” he shares. He knows that plenty of audiences relate to the desperation and cringe-worthy but amusing antics of Precious—he does, too. “Medyo nakarelate din ako sakanya kasi gano’n din naman ako sa high school, lalo na yung mga nagpapatulak sa canteen o kaya may crush sa kaklase.”

@esnyrrr

ANOBA WAG KA NGA GANYAN!! BAKA DI NA KO AABSENT😡

Every embarrassing moment, whether those you’ve witnessed in real life or through a screen (or done yourself, don’t lie!), is presented in an engaging way. From the classroom teasing and banter to the foundation day wedding booth shenanigans, making excuses to see your crush in the other room to the games of Truth or Dare that felt like the most thrilling or terrifying moments of your life, Esnyr’s crush moments are almost universal experiences. And you can’t help but watch as you relive your own. It’s as enrapturing as any blockbuster rom-com.

ART IMITATES LIFE

Beyond the giggles, Esnyr thinks that the reason his content sees so much success is because personal experiences are often so relatable. You’re not the only one to make a fool of yourself in front of a crush or suffered through a pop quiz.

“So thats why yung characters na ginagawa ko, inspired sila sa stories ng ibang tao rin,” he says. “Hindi lang ako, syempre. Kumbaga may times na inaask ko yung friends ko or yung family ko kung ano ba yung mga naging experiences nila nung highschool and yun yung ginagawa kong inspiration or hugot.”

The creator had shared before that he’s amazed at just how many people relate to his content. And he still is. “Up until now, iba parin yung fulfillment & excitement every time nababasa ko yung mga reactions nila na nakakarelate sila,” Esnyr muses. “Na-aamaze po ako na as generations passed by, we [still] share the same experience as students. Sobrang saya po na nareremind tayong lahat about our highschool life.”

Nostalgia is powerful, able to make us long for different, simpler times—no matter how immature we were back then. Those experiences shaped us, and remembering them reminds us of the good times and all the craziness of growing up.

GOING BIGGER

esnyr ranollo hayskul crush moments

From minute-long, green-screened, and portrait-mode skits on TikTok to a full HD production on YouTube, Esnyr has stepped up his game. Aside from his friends and family’s constant encouraging and support, he wanted to give his audience a “refresh,” and bring something new to the table. It was time for him to give his viewers an upgraded and extended version of his content with a more realistic set-up.

“Naisip ko din kasi na, since I have the resources naman na—which is because of the people’s support—deserve naman nila mabigyan ng high quality school content in return,” he continues. “Above all, gusto ko rin magpasaya ng mas maraming tao and makapagbigay-aliw at nostalgia hindi lamang sa isang platform kundi sa YouTube na din.”

esnyr ranollo hayskul crush moments

It wasn’t smooth sailing from the beginning, though. “Nahirapan po talaga akong simulan kung paano siya gawin,” Esnyr remarked. But thanks to the crew he handpicked to work with him, including Jester Demata, Alec Quizon, Ruby Ann Murillo, Jefferd Ubera, and Jonas Aubrey, they were able to find what was needed to make his concepts a reality. “Everything started from scratch talaga and grateful ako na willing po sila to do this [project].”

From starting out not even having any acting experience, to finding his niche, to working on Shake, Rattle, & Roll Extreme (2023), Esnyr’s grown from being a small TikTok creator on his own to becoming a creative force in his generation. And HAYSKUL CRUSH MOMENTS is clearly just the beginning.

CATRIONA GRAY ANNE HATHAWAY NICHOLAS GALITZINE

Catriona Gray Interviewing Anne Hathaway And Nicholas Galitzine Is Our New Roman Empire

Prime Video: You only have five minutes. Catriona:

The queen of the universe meets the queen of Genovia and the prince of England.

The thing about crossovers is that the best ones are those that we least expect. Aside from the wish fulfillment we get from these moments, we’re also reminded that the world really isn’t that big after all. And that moment came when the queen of Genovia, Anne Hathaway, and the prince of England, Nicholas Galitzine, met Miss Universe 2018, Catriona Gray.

CATRIONA “INTERVIEWER” GRAY

ICYDK, Anne and Nicholas are currently busy promoting their new movie, The Idea Of You. The film, which is adapted from the novel of the same name by Robinne Lee and reported to have roots in Harry Styles fanfiction, follows Solène (Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mom who begins an unexpected romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Galitzine), the lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet. And in their flurry of press interviews, one of those was a virtual chat with Catriona Gray.

Whoever at Prime Video thought of this idea needs a raise. Not only are we loving this Catriona, Anne, and Nicholas interaction, but Cat is also a skilled speaker, a trait that came in handy during the interview. While Catriona only had five minutes to do the interview, she made the most of it with interesting questions that went beyond the typical press interview.

“How do you feel that your character or the film itself speak to women who may have felt this way or resonate with those types of feelings,” asked Catriona to Anne on the source material’s message on older women wanting to be seen, to which the Oscar-winning actress responded, “I think Robinne [Lee] tapped into something very real that’s not fair and it’s sort of shameful in its truth and the best way to get rid of it is to change it by making something that lives in defiance of it. And then once it’s living, it’s undeniable and hopefully brings people joy.”

Nicholas, meanwhile, was asked about emphasizing his character’s off-stage persona rather than on-stage, to which he answered, “He’s looking for that connection, maybe not consciously, but when he finds Solène, it nourishes him and imbues him with this energy that I think he’d been missing a lot of his life.” With these thought-out questions, it’s no wonder the two actors complimented and acknowledged Catriona’s inquiries. Imagine being praised by the Anne Hathaway? That’s Catriona Gray for you. You could tell they were connecting with what Catriona was asking them. We need Prime Video to bring these three in the same room ASAP and maybe a project, too. A Catriona cameo in The Princess Diaries 3 is all we ask.

Is this the start of Catriona’s Hollywood correspondent era? We hope so. She brings a breath of fresh air to press tours. Also, if this has gotten you excited to watch The Idea Of You, you can catch it on Prime Video beginning May 2.

YEDAM WINTER OFFICIALLY COOL

BANG YEDAM opens up about his new single, working with aespa’s WINTER, meeting his Filipino fans, and more.

BANG YEDAM has worked with quite a handful of artists over the years. But his most recent one is arguably his coolest to date. Last April 2, the solo artist got the K-pop world talking when he dropped his new song, Officially Cool, with aespa’s WINTER. The two artists combine their impeccable vocal abilities for an easy-to-listen tune that you’ll have on replay for a while. The song reminds us that there indeed is a rainbow at the end of the storm as the post-breakup bop talks about a couple who is no more yet come to terms with where they are and sustain an officially cool relationship as friends.

It’s an energy YEDAM and WINTER brought to the number, and YEDAM has nothing but praise for his collaborator. “Her abilities are perfect and I definitely think she really fits the vibe of this track,” YEDAM gushes to NYLON Manila. And while YEDAM does admit their first moments on the set of the music video were awkward, he and WINTER were able to find that easygoing chemistry as the shoot went on. “We found ourselves chatting away as we filmed so the atmosphere at the shoot became lighter.”

YEDAM WINTER

INSTAGRAM/BANGYEDAM_0257

It’s yet another meal from YEDAM to his listeners, especially his Filipino fans who are just a few weeks away from seeing YEDAM in person when he travels to the country for his first fan meeting in Manila on June 1. And yes, as early as now, he already has his eyes set on doing the pilgrimage many idols have done whenever they come to the Philippines. “It’s my first time going [to the Philippines] and what I do whenever I visit a place for the first time, I always try local foods or experience really delicious cuisines,” he explains. “I heard about the hamburger place, Jollibee. I would like to go there and enjoy their food.”

Get to know more about Officially Cool, YEDAM’s time working with WINTER, and more in our interview with the multi-hyphenate performer below.

If you are to describe the track, ‘Officially Cool’, in one word, what is it?

I think I would describe Officially Cool as “tingly”.

How was it working with (Aespa’s) Winter? How did you think that she’s the perfect fit for the track?

First of all, her abilities are perfect and I definitely think she really fits the vibe of this track. She is the best!

WINTER YEDAM

INSTAGRAM/_YEDAM_OFFICIAL

Did you feel any pressure while doing this collaboration? As it is a project with a big star, did you have any worries or such?

It was really, really, quite burdensome than I thought since she is really a huge star. Also, it was a chance to show our vocal chemistry. I thought that was very important. But I think a good synergy came out of it so I’m proud of it.

Are there any points you have learned from this collaboration?

The track has very high notes and originally I had this fear and pressure to hit high notes. But when I tried it, I was able to hit them. So in the future songs that I will be making, I can now express myself in a wider vocal range and that makes me proud of myself.

WINTER

INSTAGRAM/_YEDAM_OFFICIAL

Are there any fun episodes during the music video shoot with (Aespa’s) Winter?

It was really awkward during the first few hours. But as time passed, as we’re also humans, we found ourselves chatting away as we filmed so the atmosphere at the shoot became lighter. I also prepared a gift for her. She said she really liked it so I was touched.

These days, TikTok challenges are a thing to promote songs, have you thought of making or is there already one for ‘Officially Cool’?

Since this track is a duet, I think couples or friends can use it in certain situations where the song fits and vibe to it – please make and do the challenge for me. I think it would be fun!! I think the 2nd verse is the perfect part for it. There’s a part that goes, ‘block (hold up), pause (what?)’, I think if the couples make it fit that part. I think it would be fun!

YEDAM

INSTAGRAM/_YEDAM_OFFICIAL

You’ve collaborated with big names such as Winter, B.I, and Big Naughty; are there any artists you would like to collaborate with in the future?

Collaborating with hip-hop and R&B artists? I’ve thought about that lots of times. I think it would also be interesting to try with artists who have very distinct colors but do different genres than me. I think that would result in unique sounds so I am looking forward (to trying those).

You are an all-rounder – writing, composing, vocals, etc.; you participate in a lot but is there a field that you would like to try and explore deeper?

I like watching movies and playing (video) games. I also like watching sports. I don’t think I’ve thought about going deeper in just one area; I do everything little by little, I feel like I just watch everything closely. But I do think I might fall for something this time around. I bet baseball has a high probability! I find baseball to be fun these days.

WINTER YEDAM

INSTAGRAM/BANGYEDAM_0257

You are about to meet your fans in the Philippines this June, how do you feel about that? Do you have anything that you would like to do there, like a bucket list or something?

I really wanted to meet the fans in the Philippines. It’s my first time going there and what I do whenever I visit a place for the first time, I always try local foods or experience really delicious cuisines. I heard about the hamburger place, Jollibee. I would like to go there and enjoy their food.

What message do you have for your Filipino fans?

To the Philippine BY:Ds, I know you’ve waited for a long time but I’ll be seeing you soon so please look forward to it and please do support me. I love you!

Cultural reset.

P-pop girl groups BINI and G22 showed up and showed out on Chinese idol competition show ‘Show It All’, and everybody was gagged.

“The Nation’s Girl Group” BINI and “The Female Alphas” G22 showed everyone how it’s done as they participated in Chinese idol survival show Show It All. As part of an international “exchange program,” the two P-pop girl groups took the stage on the third episode of the show to showcase their talents and skills to a group of idol trainees hoping to make their own marks on the industry.

6 Gag-Worthy Moments From BINI and G22's 'Show It All' Showcase

x/bini_ph

Show It All, helmed by solo artist and EXO member Lay Zhang as their mentor, is a training, showcase, and cross-cultural experience that seeks to form a new girl group to take the world by storm. Just from the intro, when the two groups’ music and performances were presented to the trainees, they already looked impressed—if a little intimidated—at the skills shown by BINI and G22. Once the groups took the stage, they took inspiring to a whole new level as BINI performed I Feel Good as an introduction and Karera as their main stage performance, and G22 slayed with their own performances of Babalik and BANG!.

6 Gag-Worthy Moments From BINI and G22's 'Show It All' Showcase

x/g22official

Their participation looks to continue in next week’s episode, where the girl groups will perform Pantropiko and Boomerang. In the meantime, check below for a quick rundown of the gag-worthy highlights of their Show It All appearance.

THE COMPLETE PACKAGE

BINI and G22 may not be trainees themselves, but they, too, had a mission. The girl groups came to Show It All clearly on a quest to show off how skilled they are as singers and performers, and they totally accomplished it. With their vocal and dance skills, stage presence, as well as the clear concept and messages they represent, each girl group taught the trainees what it means to be the total girl group package.

Just from showing who they are as artists, BINI and G22 inspired and imparted some wisdom to the trainees, showing them that it’s possible to make it in the world of music and performance—and at such young ages and pretty early on in their careers, too.

FILIPINO THROAT CHAKRAS

Early on in the episode, the Chinese trainees admitted that they had to work on their vocals as they cultivated their talents as aspiring idols. BINI and G22’s participation offered a standard to them, as they belted their hearts out and fully embodied “Filipino throat chakra,” to the amazement of the trainees. Those mics were on.

With sky-high notes, stability while performing, and complementing harmonies and layers, the two girl groups put on vocal performances like their lives depended on it. Lay himself expressed his amazement at their skill, commenting “It’s amazing…the vocal is amazing.”

STRIKING STAGECRAFT

Speaking of being the total package—every aspect of a performance has to be well-thought out, from outfits to backgrounds. Visual aesthetic and makes for a more cohesive and impactful moment, and it doesn’t always have to be a huge production, as proven by the silhouettes behind G22 during their ballad Babalik. It just has to convey the messages you want. BINI and G22, with their striking outfits, choreography, and set designs, knows this, and proved why they deserved to take on that stage.

PERSONALITY TO BOOT

Offstage, the girls made their fans proud, too, as everyone from the trainees to the international community got to learn how kind and dedicated their idols were. BINI were caught cleaning up the area where they stayed while filming the show, and G22 Producer Jeff Vadillo also talked about how much G22 loved each other and their fans, which is important if a group wants to last.

NO BOUNDARIES

Beyond just performing, BINI, G22, and their producers talked a little bit about the formation and meaning behind the respective girl groups. As BINI producer Laurenti Dyogi talks about how they incorporated sign language into the Karera choreo, Lay puts it succinctly: they use their music as a bridge—to connect with people across countries with no boundaries, and no limits. BINI and G22’s participation in Show It All represents exactly that—how music and performance transcends barriers and brings people together. Colet even taught the audience a bit of the sign language choreo from the performance!

THAT PINOY HUMOR

Of course, BINI and G22 wouldn’t be BINI and G22 without the signature Pinoy humor. During their appearance, the girl groups elicited laughs from the audience just with their amusing antics, like BINI Maloi’s introduction with a plate and G22 AJ’s impossibly high note.

DREAMS COME TRUE

BINI member Colet, a longtime fan of EXO and Lay himself, posted excitedly on X the day they filmed the show. “PANALO AKO TODAY,” she wrote. No one knew for sure why she was thrilled at the time, but now that the EXO-L herself shared the stage with her idol (and has liked posts talking about her win as a fan), there is no doubt. We just know she was internally screaming as she interacted with the idol and host, and it’s a wonderful representation of how far she, BINI, and G22 have come.

Lay was even so impressed with BINI that he got in contact with Dyogi immediately after and extended an invite to have them at DNA Music Festival!

From being young girls who aspire to be like their idols, to becoming young women sharing the stage with their idols (who are cheering them on for once) and inspiring a new set of dreamers, BINI and G22’s newest milestone is a rousing testament to how dreams come true.

If you want to follow along with BINI and G22’s participation on Show It All, or rewatch this episode of the show, just head on over to MangoTV.

GEN Z BODY SHAME

12 Gen Z Personalities Who Ended Body Shamers

Cleared them.

TBH, they’re worth stanning alone just for standing up to the haters.

Body shamers and body-shaming is not a new problem. For the longest time, people just can’t seem to keep their opinions to themselves and instead leave nasty and unwanted comments about other people’s bodies. But just because it’s a regular problem on social media, that doesn’t mean we should just accept it as fact, something these Gen Z stars have shown us. One thing about the current generation is that they aren’t afraid to fight for what is right, and that includes clapping back at body shamers. Scroll down for the personalities who didn’t let petty trolls and their below-the-belt comments breath with their clapbacks.

XYRIEL MANABAT

XYRIEL MANABAT

INSTAGRAM/XYRIELMANABAT_

Body hair is normal. It’s a fact of life. But that hasn’t stopped people from equating body hair on women with being ugly. Case in point, a hater once took it upon themselves to comment on Xyriel’s armpit hair. Not one to let the mean comments get to her, Xyriel responded like a boss saying: “Uhmm coz tao ako? So what about it?” Exactly Xyriel. Her candid and self-assured reply serves as a reminder to embrace ourselves and not let the shallow standards of others define us.

AC BONIFACIO

AC BONIFACIO

INSTAGRAM/ACBONIFACIO

No matter how you look, no one is deserving of being body-shamed, and that includes skinny-shaming. It’s a problem that has sadly plagued many celebs, including AC Bonifacio. Taking to her Instagram stories, AC called out a netizen who DMed her that she needed to gain weight to look better and lit them up. “NOBODY should feel shame over their weight, clothing size, or body shape.” Her concise message also spoke to the important fact that we aren’t tied to anyone’s opinion about our body but our own. As AC puts it, “It is not my responsibility to be up to your standard. I love how I look and how I am.”

LORIN GUTIERREZ

LORIN GUTIERREZ

There’s a plague going around society, and it’s people trying to police young women showing their bodies. Even Lorin Gutierrez had to deal with it when a netizen commented on one of her posts that she should stop showing so much skin and save it for her special someone. A dumb statement, we know.

As expected, Lorin let them have it with a scorching response that channeled the energy of young women dealing with backward-thinking trolls. “Girls should be able to choose whether they want to be conservative or showy depending on what they feel comfortable with, not for a ‘special na tao’ because that special person, whoever they may be, doesn’t own me and should be ok with me being confident in my own skin.”

MIEL PANGILINAN

If you follow Miel Pangilinan on TikTok, then you know that, aside from posting about her daily life and love of NCT Dream, she also gives her haters a lesson on minding their business. Such was the case when she had a clapback ready for a user who tried to shame her for having stretch marks. FYI, stretch marks are normal, and there is nothing to be ashamed about having them.

EMMANUELLE ATIENZA

EMMANIELLE ATIENZA

You would think that teenagers posting pictures of themselves on Instagram would be a normal teenage thing to do. But that wasn’t the case for model and mental health advocate Emmanuelle Atienza, who faced a slew of unsolicited comments shaming her for posting revealing photos of herself. Her response? A classy and sassy clapback by posting a picture of herself in a bikini and captioning it, “Lol cant see the haters.”

ALEXA ILACAD

ALEXA ILACAD

Alexa Ilacad has had many iconic moments over the years, but our favorite was when she ended a body shamer telling her to “loose weight” with just one word. Wrong comment and wrong spelling? Yikes. Take it from Alexa on how to disregard unsolicited advice like a queen.

ANJI SALVACION

ANJI SALVACION

We love that Anji Salvacion isn’t afraid to play around with her style and explore different looks and aesthetics. But that somehow gave trolls the green signal to bash and body-shame her for showing more skin. It’s clear though that Anji doesn’t let the hate get to her as she shared during an interview, “I don’t care if people are gonna bash me. I just love my body!” As she should.

Ted Failon may be a top journalist, but he needed to do his research when he tried to insinuate that SB19’s Justin was not Filipino because of his nose shape during an episode of his radio program. And while Justin did not directly respond to the remarks, which is still a valid form for a clapback, Josh playfully did when he posted a TikTok video alluding to the controversy.

Xyriel Manabat has been killing it in her return to showbiz. But for the trolls, they just can’t stop talking about how much her body has changed. This was the case during the 2023 Star Magical Prom when netizens couldn’t keep their mouths shut with their lewd comments. To the rescue was Xyriel’s Dirty Linen co-star Raven Rigor, who took to social media and reminded us that there are still gentlemen in this world. “Please respect women. There is more to her than meets the eye,” he said in a post.

No matter your body size, people will always sadly have something to say. It’s something that Angelique Manto has experienced, yet she is not the one to mess around with when it comes to unsolicited comments about her body. The content creator and former Miss Universe Philippines delegate delivered an essay-sized clapback to a netizen she caught insulting her in her DMs and giving a backhanded compliment in her comments section. “I can work on myself time and time again, but beyond the physical, hope we can work on what we do and how we make others feel,” she wrote.

Angelique then ended her message with a reminder a lot of people need to hear. “The amount of time you spend writing a comment that could shake a person is the same amount of time you can do something kind. Choose better.” Spoken like a true queen.

KD Estrada and Alexa Ilacad have built an unbreakable bond that even haters can’t shatter. Just look at when a now-deleted account on X tried to body-shame Alexa and KD came in with the deflect with his response, “Kapal ng mukha neto ganda ka?” We too would delete our account if we were that embarrassed.

Given that the Philippines is a predominantly conservative country, women still face hate and criticism for the simple act of wanting to show some skin. It’s a societal ill that Venice Bektaş rightfully called out. In an interview, the Gen Z personality clapped back at people who think that women who show more skin lack self-respect. “I feel like just because someone wants to show off a little bit more skin… of course, we live in the Philippines, so of course, some people want to show off more skin. And I feel like because people want to show off more skin, wear more clothes for the warm weather, people think that you have less self-respect, which I don’t agree with at all.”

She added, “So I think that’s probably, I think that’s a bias against women that people should no longer perpetuate.” The future is in safe hands with a new generation who think like Venice.

JOSHLIA REUNION MOVIE

It Seems We Have A JoshLia Movie To Add To Our 2024 Watchlist

line
JoshLia lives on.

Well, that was unexpected.

For many people, working with your ex, even in a professional setting, is a non-starter. But most people aren’t Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia. The two dated from 2017-2019 and starred in a few projects like Vince and Kath and James and Love You To The Stars and Back (which is an underrated gem imo). And while the reel and real-life couple ended their relationship in 2019, they have remained friends and aren’t shy about expressing doing a reunion project down the line.

That time finally came as Star Cinema recently announced that the JoshLia tandem was coming back to life for a reunion movie called Un/happy For You. Clearly, anything is possible these days as one of the most popular love teams of the late 2010s is heading back to a big screen for a movie many will most likely relate to. Here are the need-to-know deets of JoshLia’s reunion project.

IT’S THEIR FIRST MOVIE TOGETHER IN FOUR YEARS

JOSHLIA REUNION MOVIE

INSTAGRAM/STARMAGICPHILS

Un/happy For You, which serves as a collaboration between Star Cinema and Viva Films, will be Joshua and Julia’s first movie together in four years. Since the couple’s break-up in 2019, Julia and Joshua have starred in two projects, 2020’s zombie thriller Block Z, and the music video for Moira Dela Torre’s hit track Paubaya, which lowkey can be considered as a short film. This reunion project is a long time coming, and one they didn’t hesitate to jump on.

“Nung nalaman ko ‘yung project, sabi ko yes agad kasi ang tagal na rin kasi nung agwat nung panahon na nag-work kami before kasi mga teenager kami,” said Joshua during the movie’s official reveal. He adds that with both of them moving on to do different projects and growing as adults, it felt great to be back together professionally. “Ngayon, I can say nag-mature na rin kami, lumaki na kami, literal. Exciting lang, nagkanya-kanya kaming journey parang ngayon magbabalikan kami sa pelikula.”

As for Julia, she shared that they were offered a handful of opportunities to reunite for a project, and Un/happy For You felt like the right fit for the moment. “Over the years, there were several attempts to coming together. At some point, when a good material comes along and a great team, of course, being reunited with Josh is such an exciting idea. It almost felt like maybe it was already the right time, it’s the right material, we’re both in a good place in our life. I’m happy na magkakatrabaho tayo uli.”

IT’S DIRECTED BY PETERSEN VARGAS

Helming the movie will be self-described JoshLia fan, Petersen Vargas. If his name sounds familiar, that’s because his last movie was the Kathryn Bernardo-led A Very Good Girl. And going by the reaction to the film last year, Un/happy For You looks to be the talk of the town once more.

INSTAGRAM/STARMAGICPHILS

“I am privileged enough to put my own stamp on a JoshLia film just because I have seen all their films together. When they offered to make a JoshLia movie, the inspiration was just overflowing,” he shared. “As their viewer over the years, I feel like this film that we are going to release is the film that I want to see the both of them to be making this year. Kumbaga as an audience, ito ‘yung gusto kong papanooring Joshlia.”

IT’S GOING TO BE A STORY ABOUT EXES

JOSHLIA REUNION MOVIE

INSTAGRAM/STARCINEMA

As you can imagine, Un/happy For You is slated to be a movie about exes reuniting. But, as the movie’s writers, Kookai Labayen, Crystal San Miguel, and Jen Chuaunsu, revealed, the project looks to go beyond the stereotypical ideas of people getting back together. “Minsan sinasabi natin sa isang tao na ‘I’m happy for you’ pero sa totoong buhay natin, hindi tayo magpapaka-mature, magpapakatotoo tayo sometimes unhappy din naman tayo sa mga taong nanakit sa atin or sa mga taong may mga atraso sa ‘tin kaya may slash kasi baka pwedeng happy ka doon sa tao na ‘yun,” explained Kookai Labayen on the movie’s title.

Feels are about to be felt as they promise a relatable story on exes navigating the pain and loss that still lingers in someone who you used to consider as your everything. Expect a movie that, while delving into the all-too-relatable and complicated struggle of detaching yourself from someone you gave your all to, also gives the space for people to heal.

WE HAVE A LOOK TEST

While we don’t yet have a trailer, an official plot synopsis, and just a vague release date of sometime in 2024, we do have a look test starring Julia and Joshua. The look test (which, fun fact, was shot on the ABS-CBN compound) finds the two actors playing exes who reunite after some time apart. But what was supposed to be a simple delivery turns hostile as they confront each other on what went wrong in their failed relationship. Old wounds were opened, and the lingering pain is still there. This is going to be so messy. We can’t wait to watch this.

The villa, with its hedges and high gates, truly values your privacy. Though El Migueleños is technically not a beachfront residence (perfect for people who prefer a staycation over a beach trip), it’ll take you about three minutes to get to the beach if you want to feel the sand under your toes.

Back in the villa, there are two bedrooms and three and a half baths, so getting ready for a night out at the beach won’t be an issue. The first bedroom, with a view down to the pool, holds two queen beds, and the smaller bedroom holds one queen bed. Three floor mattresses are also available, so if you and your friends are clingy, have a sleepover in the big room for late-night chika sessions. The huge windows let in plenty of light, but the space is cool and refreshing with AC and fans.

Slaying In The Sun: Turn Up The Heat With These 10 Celeb-Inspired Summer Looks

line
Is it hot in here or is it just those fire 'fits?

From Western cowgirl realness to sheer, sparkling coverups, here’s what summer 2024 looks like in fashion, as worn by your favorite celebs and creators.

Clearly, this summer is all about sheer fabrics, colors and patterns, mixing and matching, and Western-inspired pieces. Turn all your summer adventures into a runway as you curate a summer wardrobe inspired by ooks that range from edgy and elegant to fun and colorful. You may not be going to Coachella Valley like these style icons are, but you can still serve in this sweltering heat on the beach or in the streets with summer fashion pieces and outfits that are the perfect splash of fun.

From Coachella to Siargao, Andrea Brillantes’ festival outfits to Maris Racal’s summer destination wedding looks, check out how these celebs and creators are dressing to turn up the heat this season. Their summer looks riff on classics and trends in their own special ways, and we’re taking notes.

LORIN’S LACY LOOK

Lorin Gutierrez Bektaş came to Coachella with one goal in mind: to serve. And serve she did, as she embodied a handful of summer 2024 trends all at once with a sheer lace top as part of a white matching set. She was also giving cowgirl coquette in a pair of cowboy boots and thin-ribbon bows in her hair. Pinterest pinspo realness.

ANDREA’S COACHELLA OOTDS

Andrea Brillantes rocked three stunning looks at Coachella this year, pulling from both trends and timeless classics. The first look, an airy, lacy number (matching with Lorin) had a shawl Andrea pulled over her head to provide some protection from the heat and dust and gave her an otherworldly look.

Her second outfit was pure Western cowgirl goodness. The leopard print fuzzy top with a short denim jumpsuit, brown leather accents, and to-die-for cowboy boots was topped off perfectly with a bolo (because she’s committed!) and a ten-gallon hat.

For her last Coachella look, the actress picked up a few things from her mom’s closet for an authentic boho-Y2K look that is the definition of summer 2024. Andrea paired her mom’s flowy halter top and accessories with a more modern denim skirt and Sambas, and has inspired countless daughters to turn back to a favorite pastime—raid their mother’s wardrobe.

LOUD AND PROUD

P-pop artist and ALAMAT member Jao was an eye-catching sensation at NYLON Manila’s Hot Tropic summer party. You really can’t go wrong with busy, colorful neon pieces in the summer. All the prints, details, and colors of his button-down were perfectly complimented by his accessories and his life-of-the-party personality.

LEATHER IN THIS HEAT? WHY NOT

Listen, in this heat, sometimes you just have to go with as little layers as possible. But leather? In the summer? Creator Kerwin King makes a case for it in a black leather terno with simple accessories, putting an edgier twist on the Western fashion trend.

SHEER AND PATTERNED WITH MAUREEN

Model and actress Maureen Wroblewitz also donned a leather look for Coachella, but it’s her sheer mix-and-match outfit that got us digging through our closets to emulate. Pairing different sheer patterned fabrics with shoes that look like they don’t belong in the desert just works for this look, and it gives off a simple but playful bohemian vibe.

SUMMER WEDDING LOOKS

A monochromatic look for a poolside excursion? Sign us up. Actress Maris Racal attended Angelica Panganiban’s wedding in Siargao, and her green-toned ‘fit featuring a glittering shirtdress coverup and neon bikini top totally got beachgoers green with style envy.

But the looks don’t end there. For the welcome dinner, Maris was tied up in a white two-piece set that was just screaming summer coquette. The cinching all the way down shouldn’t work, but it does—and it’s so uniquely stylish.

LAYERED AND CHIC

Serve summery, preppy, chic, and party-ready all at once like the iconic Bretman Rock with vests (an elegant alternative to tank tops), skirts, and chunky accessories. Don’t shy away from mixing and matching patterns, too! Just look at that cow-print bag.

Whether it’s summer or any season, all you need to do to be “stylish” is to dress up following your own rules and your own preferences. Get inspired, but the best thing about these summer looks is that they reflect the personalities of those rocking them, and there’s nothing hotter than someone who’s confident and comfortable in their own skin (and clothes).

7 Celebrity Cameos You Might’ve Missed on K-Dramas

line
Our favorite kind of easter egg.

From cameos to crossovers, K-dramas have a knack for dropping famous faces into our favorite series. Have you seen them all?

Related: 5 Reasons Why Revenge K-drama ‘Wonderful World’ Is Your Next Binge-Worthy Watch

K-dramas have taken the world by storm with their storylines, star-studded casts, and show-stopping cinematography. And while we focus on the main characters (and sometimes, the second leads), and gripping plots, there is also another aspect of K-dramas that get people talking – the celebrity cameos.

These fleeting appearances by famous faces are like shooting stars that streak across our screens, adding an extra layer of excitement and intrigue for fans. Whether they’re simply customers at a restaurant or have an actual role to play, we can all relate to those moments when we scream, ‘Ariana, what are you doing here?” as soon as we spot them.

So, grab some snacks and scroll through the crossovers and cameos you might’ve missed while binge-watching in your favorite K-dramas.

Gong Yoo in Squid Game

Who else got majorly starstruck when Gong Yoo made a surprise cameo in the blockbuster K-drama Squid Game? Despite his blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance as a seemingly ordinary salesman, this mysterious character pulls strings behind the scenes with the finesse of a puppet master.

Caught mid-game in a round of the classic Korean ddakji, where folded paper tiles mean serious business, a mysterious recruiter becomes the catalyst for dragging the main character, Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), into the high-stakes chaos of the Squid Game.

Kim Soo-hyun in Crash Landing on You

This list of celebrity cameos wouldn’t be complete without the comedic charm brought forth by Kim Soo-hyun in his appearance in the 2020 K-drama sensation, Crash Landing on You. As one of the industry’s top-tier talents and highest-paid actors, the Queen of Tears leading man took on the role of Won Ryu-hwan, a North Korean spy donning a signature bowl haircut and green tracksuit. Now that we’re seeing it again, do you think his character was the inspiration behind Squid Game’s iconic costumes?

Lee Hyeri in Record of Youth

In a twist fit for a K-drama plot, fans of the iconic series Reply 1988 were in for a surprise with Lee Hye-ri’s cameo moment in Record of Youth. As half of the beloved duo Duk-seon and Choi Taek alongside Park Bo-gum, the actress’ return to the screen sparked anticipation among viewers.

However, despite the high hopes for a heartwarming reunion, the stars didn’t align for Lee Hyeri and Park Bo-gum to share the screen once more. For now, the BTS photo shared by the two was enough for fans while eagerly awaiting the next surprise twist in the world of K-dramas.

Lee Jong-suk in Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo

In Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo, eagle-eyed fans caught the lightning-fast yet unforgettable cameo by the undeniably charming Lee Jong-suk, known for his roles in Pinocchio and While You Were Sleeping.

This blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance in the 2016 smash-hit drama saw Lee Jong-suk stepping into the shoes of a customer at Bok Chicken. Now, let’s be honest, who among us isn’t a tad envious that the actor got to check out the infamous fried chicken?

Lee Joon-gi in Hotel del Luna

In a sensational reunion that sparked fireworks on screen, Lee Joon-gi and IU, renowned for their chemistry in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, shared a K-drama once more in the supernatural spectacle Hotel del Luna.

This time, Lee Joon-gi steals the show with a scene-stealing cameo as a priest knee-deep in the exhilarating task of exorcising spirits. But here’s the twist: Jang Man-wol (played by IU) had bestowed upon him the gift of ghost-sight, hoping to recruit him for her hotel, only to find him on a ghost-busting spree instead.

Park Bo-gum in Itaewon Class

The final episode of Itaewon Class is graced by the sight of a glowing and oh-so-beautiful Park Bo-gum in slow motion. It’s a scene that sends our hearts racing faster than a K-drama plot twist.

As he steps into the role of a chef fighting for a spot at Oh Soo-Ah’s restaurant (played by Kwon Nara), the stunned daebak that escapes her lips mirrors our own astonishment at his breathtaking presence. It’s moments like these that make us crave seconds (and thirds!) of this groundbreaking series.

Song Joong Ki in Queen of Tears

Amidst the whirlwind of drama that is Queen of Tears, fans were hit with a jaw-dropping surprise—a full-blown crossover starring none other than the charming Song Joong Ki from Vincenzo. Talk about turning up the drama meter.

Portraying his Vincenzo Cassano persona, complete with Italian flair and Korean roots, Song Joong Ki seamlessly slid into the scene as a divorce attorney representing Kim Ji Won’s Hong Hae In. And let’s not forget the inside jokes; spotting our favorite ‘corn salad’ references was like finding hidden treasures for those in the know.
