Being a host is not as simple as just reading words off a cue card. It takes a certain level of skill and talent to lead an event smoothly. There’s an inherent pressure in being a host that needs to be navigated, especially for major events that are seen across the globe where it feels like the weight of the world is on the host’s shoulders. Such is the case with the Miss Universe pageant, as, following Steve Harvey’s infamous mishap in 2015, the importance of having a competent host has never been more important.

Over the past few years, the Miss Universe organization has been going with an all-female hosts line-up, and we feel a certain someone who is more than familiar with the pageant should be a main host as well, Catriona Gray. No rookie in the pageant and hosting world, Catriona is an experienced hand in both aspects. But more than just someone who can speak in front of a crowd, she’s in the unique position of being able to tell the story of the delegates. Here are a few reasons why Catriona Gray deserves to be a main host of Miss Universe.

SHE’S A PREVIOUS MISS UNIVERSE

While being a former Miss Universe isn’t a requirement to be a Miss Universe host, it does help. As a former contestant and winner, it gives the host a unique perspective on what goes on in the competition, making it easier to relate to and understand the energy of coronation night. Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo has been a main host for years, so there’s nothing wrong for Catriona to do the same. If the Miss Universe organization wants to go that far, they can even do an all-winners host lineup. How epic would that be?

SHE’S ALREADY A BACKSTAGE CORRESPONDENT FOR MISS UNIVERSE

For two years now, Catriona has been chosen as a backstage commentator for Miss Universe. And as seen by netizens’ reactions on social media, she can get people talking with her commentary. She’s already worked with the organization as a host in some capacity before, so why not bring her up to the level of main co-host? Catriona’s literally a veteran waiting in the wings.

SHE’S NO STRANGER TO HOSTING BEAUTY PAGEANTS

While Catriona may not be a main host for Miss Universe (yet), she has hosted her fair share of major pageants. For years, the Miss Universe 2018 has been tapped to be a co-host of multiple Binibining Pilipinas coronation nights. She’s no stranger to the stakes, pressure, and tension that comes from hosting a coronation night, which makes Catriona fit to adapt to the environment of pageantry’s biggest night.

SHE’S AN EXPERIENCED HOST

If the organization is looking for a host to not make another Steve Harvey situation, Catriona is their girl. The multi-talented star has hosted multiple high-profile events, from Binibining Pilipinas to the launch of Disney Philippines, and, of course, being a backstage commentator at Miss Universe. Needless to say, Catriona knows what she’s doing.

SHE’S A NATURAL IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA

As her iconic Miss Universe run shows, Catriona has charisma and confidence running through every centimeter of her body. What makes or breaks a host is the energy they bring and how well they can connect with the audience. It’s a talent Catriona has in spades. She keeps it cool under pressure, can speak well, and comes off as a natural when dozens of cameras are pointing at her. Awkward moments? We don’t know her.
