It has been quite a year for movies. From pandemic-themed stories like Kimi and the record-smashing premiere of Top Gun: Maverick, to the success of indie darling Everything Everywhere All At Once, genre-bending offerings like Nope and The Northman, and superhero tentpole movies like Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and DC’s The Batman and Black Adam, 2022 is the year where we have once again returned to the cinemas and fully imbibed its spirit post-lockdown.

Locally, it has also been a vibrant cinematic experience. There’s the success of Filipino films in the international stage like Martika Ramirez Escobar’s Leonor Will Never Die and Erik Matti’s On The Job: The Missing 8. Filipino talents have also taken center stage in international projects like our very own Dolly de Leon in Triangle of Sadness, Chai Fonacier in Nocebo, and Soliman Cruz in To The North. The QCinema International Film Festival has also celebrated its tenth anniversary with jam-packed physical screenings. Meanwhile, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video have also diversified the Filipinos’ entertainment choices this year.

And while we happily look back at the unforgettable cinematic highlights of the year as 2022 winds down to a close, let’s look at the biggest titles that will hype us up even more as we enter the new year. From Christopher Nolan’s first biopic to the return of the Spider-Verse, here are the movies that you should include in your watchlist in 2023.

BARBIE

Experience the fantastic life in plastic with the live-action film adaptation of the famed blonde-haired Mattel doll, Barbie. While most plot details about the Warner Bros. movie are still under wraps, what we know is that Lady Bird and Little Women helmer Greta Gerwig directs and co-writes (together with his partner Noah Baumbach), and that Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will play Barbie and (struggling) Ken dolls respectively.

Also, based on some scoop from the star-studded cast, Barbie takes place in Barbieland with multiple Barbies and Kens, and will feature a crazy, purely comedic, and an epic adventure that as Robbie describes, “you didn’t know you wanted.” Gosling even says it’s the “best script” he’s ever read. Let’s go party with Barbie when it hits the theaters on July 21, 2023.

Oppenheimer

Inception and The Dark Knight Trilogy director Christopher Nolan ventures into his first-ever biopic with Oppenheimer. Written and directed by Nolan, the historical film is based on Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s book, American Prometheus, which chronicles the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, who’s dubbed as the “father” of the atomic bomb.

As Universal Pictures describes the film, Oppenheimer will revolve around the “pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.” Cillian Murphy stars as the titular role together with an explosive cast that includes Emily Blunt, Robert Downey, Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malek, and Florence Pugh. Oppenheimer will screen only in theaters on July 21, 2023.

Scream VI

Ready your screams as Ghostface returns to spill some blood with Scream VI. The sixth entry of Paramount’s decades-spanning horror saga continues as the four survivors leave the fictional town of Woodsboro and attempt to start anew, this time in New York. In the hair-raising film teaser, not only is the story set in the crowded city, it seems that Ghostface also unleashes terror right in time during Halloween, which makes the whole thing even more terrifying. Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding return to the cult slasher film which will hit the cinemas on March 10, 2023.

John Wick Chapter 4

From being a retired hitman to becoming a pop culture icon, John Wick is back to give us some satisfying action next year. Keanu Reeves returns to play the underground legend in John Wick: Chapter 4, this time figuring out a way to defeat the villainous council of crime lords called The High Table.

Facing new enemies with powerful alliances across the globe and with friends turning into foes, John Wick once again attempts to find a way out, in neo-noir fashion, struggling to get his elusive freedom once and for all. Chad Stahelski returns at the helm with a cast that boasts names like Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, and Hiroyuki Sanada. Don’t miss the suspense and thrill as John Wick: Chapter 4 screens in theaters on March 24, 2023.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

This one’s for the Marvel fans! Four years after the first animation of the Spider-Man franchise launched the time-bending, dimension-hopping, and Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Miles Morales, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spidey, returns with Gwen Stacy as they encounter a bevy of other Spider-People who are charged to protect the Multiverse. Conflicts arise when the heroes clash as they tackle a new threat and Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spideys. Produced by Sony Pictures Animation Inc. and one of the most anticipated films of 2023, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry and Oscar Isaac. It swings into theaters on June 2, 2023.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Our favorite archaeologist hero returns as Lucasfilm revives the popular Indiana Jones film series with its fifth installment, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Harrison Ford reprises his iconic role as the American adventurer in the film set in the ‘60s and in the backdrop of the space race where Indy and his goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) are set to fight the Nazi-infested moon-landing program and the villainous Jürgen Voller (Mads Mikkelsen). More than a decade after the last Indy film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is back to give us some classic action and a thrilling experience as it comes to cinemas on June 30, 2023.

The Hunger Games: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES

Almost a decade after the end of the then uber-popular film franchise that captured the zeitgeist of the 2010s, Suzanne Collins’ best-selling world of The Hunger Games is back with a prequel titled The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, making our YA-loving and Katniss Everdeen-stanning hearts fulfilled. Directed by Francis Lawrence (who previously helmed three Hunger Games titles), the prequel centers on a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), years before he would become Panem’s president, and his relationship with Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) a girl tribute with a musical talent from District 12. Watch them turn the odds to their favor as The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes hits the cinemas on November 17, 2023.

IN MY MOTHER’S SKIN

Of course, we’re not forgetting some exciting Filipino movies of the fast-approaching 2023. One of them is Kenneth Dagatan’s sophomore effort In My Mother’s Skin which melds history, fantasy, and horror in one story. The first co-production between the Philippines (Epicmedia Productions), Singapore (Zhao Wei Films and Clover Films), and Taiwan (Volos Films), the film is set in the Philippines in 1945, nearing the end of World War II, as a young girl named Tala tries to protect her mother from a beguiling, sinister, and flesh-eating fairy.

In My Mother’s Skin is the sole Filipino feature film at the prestigious 2023 Sundance Film Festival (with a premiere on January 20, 2023) and will be followed by its European premiere at the 52nd International Film Festival Rotterdam. With an enticing premise and a star-studded cast that includes Beauty Gonzales, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Angeli Bayani, Arnold Reyes, Ronnie Lazaro, and Noel Sto Domingo with newcomer Felicity Kyle Napuli, In My Mother’s Skin is not to be missed. Follow Epicmedia Productions’ Facebook page to stay updated about the film’s local release.

Sampung Mga Kerida

Another Filipino title to watch out for is the murder-mystery comedy Sampung Mga Kerida (Ten Little Mistresses). Directed by Jun Lana (Die Beautiful), it follows the story of the sudden death of a widowed billionaire, Valentin Esposo, and his 10 mistresses (fighting for the title ‘legal wife’) who are the prime murder suspects. The women then race to prove their innocence and find the true killer.

Top-billed by veteran comedienne Eugene Domingo, Sampung Mga Kerida promises some raucous and campy fun as it makes a twist on the usual Filipino theme of infidelity. Sampung Mga Kerida is also the first original Filipino film produced by Amazon Prime Video and is slated for release on February 15, 2023. The whodunnit comedy stars a powerhouse cast including Pokwang, Carmi Martin, Agot Isidro, Christian Bables, Kris Bernal, Sharlene San Pedro, Adrianna So, Kate Alejandrino, Iana Bernardez, and Donna Cariaga.

LISTEN: SB19 And NOBITA Revamp The Eraserheads’ Classic Anthems

Joining the Eheads fever. ❤️‍🔥

Honoring the timeless music of the Eraserheads, SB19 and NOBITA have released their versions of Christmas Party and Magasin with contemporary flair.

Remember when Ely Buendia promised an Eraserheads reunion? Well, it was fulfilled last night, when the OPM rock legends held their Huling El Bimbo concert to a crowd of an estimated 75,000 at the SMDC Festival Grounds in Parañaque. Crowds of excited and passionate fans, including celebrities and political figures, flocked to the venue to see the Eheads performing together for the first time after eight long years. Ely was joined with his bandmates Buddy Zabala, Raimund Marasigan, and Marcus Adoro in a euphoric and nostalgic night where they treated the attendees with their renditions of Pinoy favorites Ligaya, Alapaap, Overdrive, With A Smile, and Ang Huling El Bimbo among other hits.

And to commemorate the indubitable success of what seems to be the Eraserheads’ final reunion concert, top OPM acts SB19 and NOBITA released their revamped versions of Eheads’ tracks Christmas Party and Magasin, respectively, today. Infusing it with their own contemporary styles, SB19 and NOBITA put a fresh spin on the OPM classics, giving a unique and satisfying listening experience that rightfully pays homage to the enduring legacy of the Eraserheads.

HONORING THE ERASERHEADS

NOBITA and SB19

Released today under Sony Music Entertainment, the revamped versions made by the P-Pop kings, SB19, and Filipino alternative rock band, NOBITA, are a celebration of the iconic music of the Eraserheads while giving it a fresh flavor that appeals to today’s audiences.

With Christmas Party, SB19 turns the original Fruitcake track into a complete festive banger as the chart-topping pentad incorporates elements of dance-pop, R&B, hip-hop, and modern funk into the mix while still nodding to the song’s nostalgic energy and vibe. Their dynamic and vibrant rendition is produced by August Rigo, who is also responsible for some of BTS’ biggest global hits like On and Black Swan.

“The Eraserheads are one of the most influential bands of our time,” shares SB19, who recreated the Eheads music in the middle of their world tour. “We retained everything that’s great about the song, but made sure to add our own creative direction in terms of overall sound. There’s a balance of artistic liberty and compromise in the way we approach the material, and we’re definitely happy with how it turned out.”

Meanwhile, the five-piece Pinoy band NOBITA, whose Ikaw Lang is Spotify’s most-streamed song in the country, gives The Eraserheads’ hit single Magasin a jazz-pop treatment, complementing the song’s upbeat and heavily melodic arrangement with the endearing hugot energy that they’re known for.

“We grew up listening to and playing Eheads songs,” says the indie band in a statement.  “NOBITA heavily draws inspiration from their music, especially their brand of songwriting. Their work has shaped us into where we are now, and we’re forever grateful to their enormous contribution to OPM artists, young and old.”

On top of the revamped version, fans will also get to enjoy some immersive music experience with the re-release of five of the Eraserheads’ legendary albums in full 360-degree spatial sound including Ultraelectromagneticpop!: The 25th Anniversary Remastered Edition, Circus (25th Anniversary Remastered), Cutterpillow, Fruitcake, and Sticker Happy.

SB19’s Christmas Party and NOBITA’s Magasin are out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

Billboard Featured SB19’s WYAT Dance Tutorial On TikTok And We’re Screaming

P-Pop royalty energy. 🔥

SB19 goes into the holidays making some noise as Billboard gets in the zone with a TikTok feature of the P-Pop supergroup’s WYAT dance tutorial.

Related: SB19 Ended The WYAT Tour In The Best Way Possible

If we talk about P-Pop, SB19 would, without even having a second thought, instantly come to mind. And with the Pinoy supergroup’s series of winning moments this year, achieving career highs and milestones, it’s just reasonable to say that this is the year of our MAHALIMA.

From their globetrotting adventure with their first-ever world tour to releasing chart-topping music, doing unforgettable collaborations, their US television debut, and collecting awards and recognitions, Pablo, Stell, Ken, Justin, and Josh have proven again their supremacy. And before the year ends, SB19 managed to make some noise on the international stage once more as Billboard featured the multitalented pentad, this time blessing fans from all over the world with a WYAT (Where You At) dance tutorial.

BILLBOARD TAKEOVER

On the night of December 21, 2022, A’TIN’s hearts were once again filled with joy as SB19 got featured on the TikTok page of the American music and entertainment platform, Billboard. While this is not their first time being spotlighted by Billboard, it’s always exciting to see our kings getting the attention that they deserve. In the 40-second video, the Filipino boy band teaches their international fans how to hit the moves right to their comeback and retro upbeat single WYAT.

After their introduction, SB19’s lead dancer and main choreographer Stell gives a detailed presentation of the WYAT choreography, so effortlessly that you’ll get distracted by the sheer talent that he has. SB19 then gives a final performance of the WYAT dance showing us all how to achieve the swag and groove like P-Pop idols in under a minute.

As you may recall, Billboard’s TikTok page also featured SB19 earlier this month with the boys sharing five little-known facts about themselves. This comes three months after Billboard’s comprehensive article about the pop group’s rapid rise to stardom and their international takeover. And of course, who would forget that time when SB19 beat BTS on Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs with Bazinga being the longest-running number one song on the chart. SB19’s disco-pop track WYAT has also been listed as one of the top trending songs in the same list, peaking at the fourth spot.

Per usual, A’TIN quickly expressed their support for their P-Pop mains after the Billboard feature. One fan showed their pride in a tweet, delighted at how far SB19 has come. While other fans rightfully gushed over Stell’s shining moment.

Another A’TIN notices how SB19 has consistently been receiving attention from Billboard. Is this the sign that SB19 will soon have a performance on Billboard Music Awards? Fingers-crossed!

6 Things You Can Do If You’re Staying In The City For The Holidays

line
A boring holidays? We don't know her.

Not leaving the city during the holidays? No worries, there are still a lot of things you can do to make the most out of the long vacation.

Related: Here Are Christmas Eve Outfit Inspos From The Star Magical Christmas Ball

With Christmas just around the corner and New Year’s not far after, holiday plans are in full swing. And that usually means traveling, whether it be to local destinations like Boracay for the beach, Tagaytay or Baguio for the cold weather, or internationally as part of your revenge travel plans. But just because your holiday itinerary doesn’t include any far-off miles doesn’t mean it is any less memorable.

There’s more to the season than spending the entire break in an exotic destination. Even if you’ll be spending Christmas and New Year’s in the city, there are still activities you can do to make the most of the season. Check out these adventures that can make for a fun, memorable, and festive experience.

TREAT YOURSELF

Treat yourself for the holidays.

Let’s start by saying that inflation is a killer and has us pinching our wallets more than usual. But that doesn’t mean you should deprive yourself of some holiday joy and self-care. Now that you have that 13th-month check or extra money in the bank account, it’s time for you to give yourself a little treat that you deserve for all the hard work you’ve done in the past year. Whether it be a nice meal, spa day, or what have you, feeling guilty is not on the agenda when it comes to gifting yourself that present. (As long as it is within your budget, of course.)

HAVE A FAMILY OR FRIENDS REUNION

A family reunion from The Simpsons

One way to know whether the holiday season is here is if your inbox suddenly starts becoming filled with invites for parties, hangouts, and get-togethers. But that is one of the main aspects of the time, to be with the people you hold near and dear to your heart. If you’re willing to brave the infamous Manila Christmas traffic, use this time to finally schedule that long-delayed barkada hangout. Have a house party and set your own crazy rules for the attire, party until the early morning at a club, check out the city’s many barakda spots, or just have a nice catch-up lunch/dinner.

And let’s not forget those family reunions where we get to see again the family members we like. Just remember to practice proper health protocols when you’re having fun, because the last thing you want is to get sick before Christmas.

SEE THE CHRISTMAS ATTRACTIONS

Night of lights at SM Mall of Aisa

If the Christmas decorations around every street corner aren’t enough for you, then experience that holiday cheer in one of the city’s many Christmas attractions. From Pasay to Makati, Quezon City, and more, there are a handful of spots around the Metro that serve as a mini winter wonderland. These attractions only come around once a year, so it literally is the only time of the year for you to experience what these places have to offer.

GO TO SIMBANG GABI

The San Augustin Church

Aside from the merriment we experience, the season is also an important time spiritually for many Christians and Catholics as Christmas Day marks the birth of Jesus Christ. And one of the biggest religious traditions done during the time is Simbang Gabi, a series of daily masses that ends on December 24. Use this time to visit some of the city’s many churches, such as the San Agustin Church in Intramuros, which was recently named the country’s most beautiful building.

And if you’re not the church-going type or aren’t part of the faith, you can just spend a few moments by yourself in quiet contemplation as you reflect on the year that was. We all deserve that breather with what we went through this 2022.

WATCH THIS YEAR’S MMFF ENTRIES

Some posters of the 2022 MMFF

December 25, aside from being Christmas Day, is also known as the official start of the Metro Manila Film Festival. The yearly showcase has every cinema around the country screen a select group of eight Filipino movies for around two weeks. And this year’s entries are a diverse bunch, from a team-up comedy to a horror movie about content moderation. If you’re itching to catch some local movies before the year ends, MMFF is your best bet. Who knows, you might find something you’ll like. The festival runs from December 25, 2022–January 7, 2023.

GO THROUGH THAT WATCHLIST

Spongebob watching TV

Remember that series you put on your watchlist back in March that you promised yourself you’ll find the time to watch? Well, guess what? It’s still on your watchlist. But don’t need to worry as the holiday season serves as an opportune time to finally go through that ever-expanding watchlist. Now that you have more free time on your hands, it’s time to go down that rabbit hole of movies and shows you told yourself you’ll watch but haven’t gotten to.

And since the year is about to come to an end, it’s a great time to catch up on those films and series everyone’s been raving about to see whether the hype is real. Enjoy that movie, whether alone or with your friends or family at a watch party.

Sampung Mga Kerida: Prime Video Marks Its First Filipino Original Film

line
Too much love will kill you.

Staying true to its commitment of spotlighting local talents, Amazon Prime Video gives a first look into its first-ever Filipino original movie, Sampung Mga Kerida.

Related: Finally, Prime Video Launches In The Philippines And We’re Ready To Binge

Ever since its arrival on Philippine shores earlier this year, Amazon Prime Video has undoubtedly diversified the entertainment experience of Filipinos. Not only is it able to bring us our most anticipated shows like The Boys, the Invincible animated series, or its tentpole offering, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, it has also since housed Filipino content including the award-winning dramedy Big Night!, the festival darling Whether the Weather Is Fine, and Rod Singh’s all-new Drag Den. And as just recently announced, Prime Video furthers its commitment of not only providing foreign content, but also tapping into the power of the local creative community as it gives us a glimpse into Jun Lana’s star-studded Sampung Mga Kerida (Ten Little Mistresses), its first-ever Filipino original film.

SAMPUNG MGA KERIDA

On December 20, 2022, Prime Video finally gave a much-awaited first look into Sampung Mga Kerida. “Too much love can kill you? Mukhang ganun na nga,” reads Prime Video’s caption, hinting that the history-making movie packs a story that’s filled with murder, drama, and exciting scenes. And with a collection of colorful and over-the-top behind-the-scenes photos that include shots of Filipino entertainment heavyweights like Carmi Martin, John Arcilla, and Eugene Domingo, we know that we’re in for some unmissable, campy romp.

Sampung Mga Kerida

At the helm of Sampung Mga Kerida is the veteran filmmaker and The IdeaFirst Company co-founder Jun Robles Lana (who previously directed Barber’s Tales, Bwakaw, and Die Beautiful). The murder-mystery comedy film follows the story of a widowed billionaire, Valentin Esposo, and his whopping ten mistresses who will stop at nothing to be his legal wife. But when the patriarch suddenly turns up dead, his paramours become prime suspects, racing to prove their innocence and find the real killer.

Sampung Mga Kerida hews to a classic whodunnit premise that will remind you of an Agatha Christie novel (or adaptation) or the much recent Rian Johnson film series Knives Out. Yet what stands out, apart from its interesting plot, is its glorious cast that will surely make the experience even more chaotic and fun than it already is. It is top-billed by no less than industry greats John Arcilla and Eugene Domingo, as well as Pokwang, Carmi Martin, and Agot Isidro. The film also stars Christian Bables (a Jun Lana regular), Kris Bernal, Sharlene San Pedro, Adrianna So, Kate Alejandrino, Iana Bernardez, and Donna Cariaga.

TELLING FILIPINO STORIES

This comes as another great news, especially after the premiere of the Filipino original drag-themed series Drag Den by Rod Singh, which is also available to stream on Prime Video. It’s also a testament to the mission of the streaming giant of focusing its efforts on localization and of giving a platform to Filipino storytellers.

Sampung Mga Kerida

“We really want to be an essential partner and a home for talent and the creative community,” says Erika North, who heads Amazon Studios’ Asia-Pacific Originals, in an interview. “You know, to be able to plug into their conversations and ambitions—we know creators in the region have a thirst to create stories—and to embark on originals and co-productions that they’ve never had the chance to engage in before. And our goal in the Philippines and across Southeast Asia is to harness that and take those stories not only for our local markets but to the world.”

Apart from Sampung Mga Kerida, Prime Video is also currently working on its first local scripted series on the service, Comedy Island Philippines, an off-the-wall situational improvisation comedy challenge show that will also star Filipino celebrities and comedians. Last September, Filipino filmmaker and head of Amazon Originals for the Philippines Quark Henares revealed that up to four Pinoy original movies would also be coming to the platform soon.

You wouldn’t have to wait longer to watch the first-ever Prime Video original Filipino film as Sampung Mga Kerida hits the streaming platform on February 15, 2023 in the Philippines and more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Follow Prime Video Philippines’ Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages to get the latest scoop.

These Filipino College Students Gave A Local PWD Center The Best Christmas Gift

Putting that degree to good use.

Tahanang Walang Hagdanan got themselves a brand new office courtesy of a group of graduating students from Benilde.

With some of us currently dealing with finals and year-end exams, it is a time wading the waters knee-deep in notes, papers, readings, and more. As you stare at your computer screen waiting for inspiration to hit you, a part of you thinks that you could be spending your time better than something this boring. However, you have to also understand that what you learn and do in school isn’t just limited to the walls of the campus, because it can bring about real positive change in this world. Just take notes from these students from the College of Saint Benilde who used their degree to renovate a local PWD center’s main office into a space more fitting for their needs.

INTERIOR DESIGN FOR THE BETTER

Graduating students under the Bachelor of Science in Interior Design (BS-InD) program from De La Salle College of Saint Benilde have to go through INTDXHI/INDEXHI (Interior Design Exhibit), the capstone course of the program that puts what the students have learned from their time in school to practical projects that help their local community. For the graduating class of 2022, they’re using their skills to help a community that is often underserved in public spaces, the Persons With Disabilities (PWD) Community. Specifically, they aim to create proper design solutions to enhance the lifestyle of the community members. To that end, they named their project AKAY: Reinforcing Inclusivity Within the PWD Community by Implementing a Sustainable, Adequate, and Borderless Interior Environment.

Render of Tahanang Walang Hagdanan's new office
Photo from AKAY

This is why they decided to partner up with Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, Inc. located in Cainta, Rizal. Since 1973, the non-profit organization has been working to give those in the PWD community a safe space to lead proper lives and have access to proper livelihoods. The students chose to rework and renovate their main office. In particular, they wanted to demonstrate the importance of interior design by creating spaces that maximize the potential of people, specifically for wheelchair users and PWDs, allowing them to discover limitless possibilities and expand their opportunities.

NEW SPACE FOR 2022

From October to November 2022, the students were hard at work applying their interior design skills to the project. And after a month, they were able to turn over the project to the community and deliver an office that got a much-needed facelift. The result is a brand-new space tailor-made to cater to the needs of those in wheelchairs and with other disabilities. It’s modern and sleek, yet practical and accessible. Meanwhile, a blue wall with the center’s mission on it adds a nice pop of color.

They created a universally designed office space that reinforces inclusivity and pushes the system toward a borderless environment, something that admittedly isn’t always seen in buildings around the Metro. Just in time for the Christmas season, Tahanang Walang Hagdanan got a new office.

While it may seem fun to experience winter, we all know tropical individuals like us wouldn’t survive the freezing temperatures of the West. However, there are ways to look frostbitten without having to actually freeze to death IRL. Enter: the “I’m Cold” makeup trend.

Easily the beauty look of the holiday season, the trend originated from TikTok. From the rosy red cheeks to the shimmery inner corners, this simple makeup look will turn you into a delicate snow angel. How cute!

Professional Filipino makeup artist Paul Unating has a similar style to the Cold Girl makeup trend. Known for his blushing technique and Korean-inspired style, his muses appear youthful and angelic. His makeup artistry is a great example of an ethereal snow angel.

While a soft glam with matching red lip is a staple during Christmas time, why not go for something fresh? The beauty trend is perfect for those who want something easy to follow, simple, with a youthful effect. Looking to add a bit of flush this season? Check out local beauty TikTokers who have been loving the trend, too.

The Cold Girl look is fairly easy to achieve. Complexion trends usually focus on the base, but for a frosty-like effect, the eyes and the cheeks are the main focal point. BeautyTok Gurus Kylie Celebre and Marj Maroket made a step-by-step guide for us to follow along.

To achieve the look, start off with your everyday base. For a skin-like, dewy effect, we recommend starting the base with a liquid illuminator and applying a tinted moisturizer on top for an even complexion.

The I’m Cold makeup trend gives you the appearance of not only feeling cold, but actually experiencing having a cold, too. The main event is the heavy blush and the shimmery inner corners. To achieve this, you will need a pigmented cream blush in a bright berry or magenta shade. Normally, blush is applied from the apple of the cheeks to the cheek bones, but for the cold girl look, add blush from the cheeks to the nose. Dust off a similar shade of blush to set the cream blush in place.

Everything’s better when there’s glitter! To imitate the look of snow, use a white or silver liquid shimmery shadow on the inner corners, and the middle part of the under eyes. Enhance the shape of your eyes by contouring the outer corners of the lid. Finish off the look with a simple winged liner. Opt for a brown liner If you’re going for a natural approach.

Finally, a makeup look isn’t complete without a lip combo. Similar to the Korean lip trend, apply a lip tint in a berry shade on the center of the lips for an ombre effect. Apply a clear or glittery gloss for a bit of shine.

Who says boys can’t join-in on the trend too? Kenn Dayandayan joined in on the makeup trend and we are here for it.

If you’re not going out of the country any time soon, embody that snow angel energy through this makeup look. This is the sign to apply that heavy blush and shimmery shadow on your next holiday gathering.

Good Luck, Chuck: This True Classic Is Debunking The Myth Of Giving Shoes As Gifts

line
True, they never go out of style.

With all due respect to long-held traditions, Converse wants to let you know that if you want it, or feel that someone else deserves a new pair, shoes are always a good gift idea.

If superstition is to be believed, then giving shoes, especially during Christmas is bad luck. Considered far from ideal, a lot of things compound this traditional Chinese belief. There’s the reasoning where the word “shoe” phonetically alludes to “evil” in Mandarin and “rough” in Cantonese, which could signal something less than ideal. And with the conversation of relationships, it is in the same belief that whoever receives the gift of shoes will walk away from you. While there exists a respect for tradition, a lot of life has taught us that not all is to be taken literally or as an absolute. Sure, there might have coincidences in the context of gifts, shoes, and departures, but a lot of myths of the similar sort have been debunked. Meaning, yes, you can go ahead and give whatever you want on during the holidays.

Whether its a special occasion, a well-deserved pick-me-up, or just another normal day, shoes are always a good idea. So, when giving love on Christmas as day, there’s a lot to consider, mainly price, function, and of course, style. And as we turn the corner of the typical Christmas rush, a true classic has got our backs with its seasonal campaign, Give Converse.

Give Converse

Just in time for the manic mad dash of Christmas, Give Converse also ushered in the opening of a new store to help you with your gift ideas. In congruence to its irreverent nature, the heritage brand went balls to the walls as it not only ushered in customers to its fresh space in Uptown Mall in BGC, but also celebrated the season of giving with the final stop of its popular Create Next Pop-up series.

After pinning down locations in Poblacion, Pampanga, and Cebu, Converse punctuated this coming together of style, art, and music with a party-slash-concert at the Fountain Area. Just like its previous iterations, the Create Next Pop-up Manila assembled a cool mix of people who braved the infamous city traffic and the rain to eat, drink, and step into a good time. There was a lot to enjoy that night as photo moments, mural painting, and tattoo sessions kept everyone busy. But what really got everyone bopping their heads and moving their feet were the performances that made everything extra special.

It was a gift that kept on giving as Converse treated everyone in the immediate periphery to music from its army of All Stars, such as Timmy Albert, DJ Hoest, and DJ Kate Jagdon. Fresh from the United States, Kiana Valenciano also blessed us with a string of her hits, searing lyrics, and honey-like vocals, which included Does She Know. Kicking the party into high gear was Juan Karlos who rocked out to an electrifying set that featured, among others, Buwan, Demonyo, and a mash-up of Creep by Radiohead and And Huling El Bimbo by the Eraserheads.

Never Go Out Style

A most fitting punctation to its already colorful year, Converse decidedly chose to go big and to give back. As loud as its campaigns were, and the performances that got everyone moving, grooving, and jamming along, it was the festive mood of season that permeated the intensity of the night. As the sound subsided and the spirits settled, people walked away not just with perfect gift ideas in mind, but with the realization that just like the pairs of Converse that we wear throughout, kindness and generosity will never go out of style.

And that’s a tradition that needs no debunking, ever.

She was asked "bakit ang laki ng tiyan mo?"

You don’t just assume a lady’s pregnant.

Janine Gutierrez may be one of the most low-key stars around, but she remains down to Earth as you can tell with her relatable tweets. She’s had one hell of a year; finally getting the recognition she deserves for her acting range and yet, still remains as feisty as ever. Recently, she roasted someone who asked her if she’s pregnant. While she was clearly having none of it, she had the most unbothered response.

Priggy ka ba? Bakit ang laki ng tiyan mo?” The anon asked, assuming that Janine had a baby bump in a photo she uploaded on her Instagram during ABS CBN’s Christmas special. TBH, we didn’t think anyone would have that amount of time on their hands to zoom in on every part of the picture, because the girl looks stunning as always. Keeping it simple and straightforward, Janine answered, “PMS bloat actually.” Yes, you can ask the ladies, because pre-menstrual bloat is very much real and it feels like hell.

Aside from that, she also revealed that she’s been holiday-eating, and why not? Who else doesn’t love food? She then proceeded to telling the netizen off by saying “sana masarap din kain mo this December.” And that folks is why you should mind your own business. But of course, since the holidays are ringing and Christmas reunions are about to happen real soon, there will always be that one tito or tita who’ll ask the most intrusive questions. And if they throw these unwarranted comments your way, just think: What would Janine Gutierrez do and dish out an unbothered response just like her. Now, that is how to win the holidays.
