ICYDK, Halloween season is heating up as parties and events go down left and right. And one of the biggest to start spooky szn is GMA’s Sparkle Spell. This yearly event sees some of GMA’s biggest and brightest stars show up and show out in their Halloween costumes. And this year’s festivities didn’t disappoint. From Sassa Gurl, who won the internet last year with her live seller costume, slaying as funeral flowers from a Congressman, Pipay as a Barangay Councilor candidate pamphlet, and Kyline Alcantara’s transformation as The Night King, the stars didn’t come to play. 

But in between all the ghosts and ghouls were a few famous faces who showed up rocking the same costume. While these aren’t one-to-one creations, they did give us a case of seeing double as well as the chance to see how these stars would interpret the same idea. Let’s take a look at the celebs who so happened to have gone as the same character at Sparkle Spell 2023

VINCE MARISTELA AND ALLEN ANSAY AS KEN

Okay, while these two actors did go as the famous doll, we love how they channeled a different kind of Ken doll, with Vince giving cowboy Ken from the Barbie movie and Allen serving zombie Ken with a matching box. 

DAVID LICAUCO, JAK ROBERTO, ANTHONY ROSALDO, AND SANDRO MUHLACH AS ZORO FROM ONE PIECE 

Category is Night of 1000 Zoros. The hilarious scenario of David and Jak showing up to Sparkle Spell both dressed as Zoro might have overshadowed the fact that two other people also dressed up as Zoro. Sales of green hair dye are about to go through the roof this Halloween. 

DANICA ONTENGCO, KALOY TINGCUNGCO, MAUIE FRANCISCO, AND VIANNA RICAFRANCA AS CRUELLA DE VIL

Remember that scene in Cruella where all the guests dress up as Cruella de Vil at the Baroness’s charity gala? This is giving that. Given how much of a fashion icon Cruella de Vil is, we weren’t surprised she’d be a popular choice for the party. Kaloy kept it classic with the fur coat, Mauie brought out the dogs, Vianna gave the sparkle, and Danica served glamour in her red gown. 

ROXIE SMITH AND CHARLIE FLEMING AS TAYLOR SWIFT

Why go to the Eras Tour in Singapore when we already have it in the Philippines? They say great minds think alike, which is why Roxie and Charlie showed up as Taylor Swift in her Versace opening outfit of the Eras Tour as Sparkle Spell 2023. They served Cruel Summer realness. 

JEFF MOSES AND KIRST VIRAL AS ALADDIN

It takes a lot of courage to show up to a Halloween party in just a vest and nothing underneath, so we give our props to Jeff and Kirst, with the former even showing up with the magic carpet and his monkey Abu.  

ASHLEY SARMIENTO AND MIGUEL TANFELIX AS THE MAD HATTER

While you may have your preference on who serves Mad Hatter energy better, we commend both stars for committing to the eccentric outfit of the character.

KEISHA SERNA AND AND TANYA RAMOS AS MIA THERMOPOLIS

The fact that both of them thought about going as Mia from The Princess Diaries poster is already a win in our book. From the shades, tiara, and headphones, it’s *chef’s kiss*.

SHAYNE KIRSTEN AND MJ ORDILLANO AS LUFFY FROM ONE PIECE

The beauty of Halloween is that costumes aren’t limited to a certain style or gender. Just look at Shayne and MJ’s interpretation of Luffy, with the latter going for the classic take and the former giving a more feminine approach to the anime character.

Ask yourself if this tattoo is worth potentially affecting your future. It’s a harsh reality, but the issue of discrimination remains a prevailing concern in the Philippines. Despite the progressive attitudes and tolerance toward body art in many parts of the world, certain industries and employers here still hold traditional views that associate tattoos with criminal activities and unprofessionalism. This means that, for some individuals, the decision to get a visible tattoo can have consequences.

Think Twice, Are You That Committed?

Tattoos are permanent, and the removal process is both more painful and expensive. Take the time to consider everything mentioned earlier. If there’s any uncertainty lingering within you or if you’re experiencing cold feet, it’s better to wait than to rush into something you might regret for the rest of your life.

With the way that HORI7ON was thrust into the spotlight and entered the high-pressure world of being global idols at the start of the year, you would think that would require a significant lifestyle overhaul. And while the members have learned to adjust and adapt their lives to their new careers, at the end of the day, Vinci, Kim, Kyler, Reyster, Winston, Jeromy, and Marcus are still the seven young men we fell in love with on Dream Maker. 

Beyond the glitz and glam, HORI7ON is still very much Gen Z Filipinos in their teens and early twenties living together and following their dreams. Fame hasn’t changed these boys one bit, which is yet another reason why we’re stanning the group.

SEVENTEEN loves their CARATs so much, they dedicated an entire title track to them in the form of Thanks, from their special album Director’s Cut (2018), which also happens to be an entire album dedicated to their fans. Thanks is set apart from their other emotional fan songs like Us, Again or Smile Flower as an EDM title track that’s upbeat and danceable.

365 – LOONA

LOONA and their fans have gone through so much in the last few years, but the love and support between them is forever encapsulated in music. 365 is a sweet ballad all about how thankful the group was for the Orbits that have waited for them—and now, to those that will continue to wait for them and support them in all their endeavors.

When ITZY says to trust them, you trust them. The lovely Trust Me (MIDZY) is the girl group’s love letter to their fans MIDZYs (which is a play on the Korean word for “trust”). Not one, but two pageants are about to go down at The Filipino Festival for The Miss Philippines and Mister Pilipinas Worldwide.

While eyes are on Michelle Dee as she competes in Miss Universe 2023 this November in El Salvador, there are a couple of coronation nights happening right in our backyard this October with The Filipino Festival. The Finals will see months of competition come to an end with two, yes two, coronation night pageants going down in one evening. 

It will also serve as the inaugural coronation night for The Miss Philippines, the newest pageant on the local scene courtesy of Miss Universe Philippines national director Shamcey Supsup and MUPH creative and events director Jonas Gaffud. And with the way they’ve been promoting the event, it’s going to be unlike other pageants you’ve seen before. Here are the details to get you ready for the big night. 

THERE WILL BE TWO CORONATIONS IN ONE NIGHT

The Filipino Festival is promoted as an avenue to celebrate Filipino culture and heritage, and the main way they are doing that is with the two big events of the evening. Both Mister Pilipinas Worldwide and The Miss Philippines will crown new winners, with the former going first followed by the latter. The Miss Philippines, in particular, will see 21 contestants vie for three crowns, Miss Charm, Miss Supranational, and Miss Asia Pacific. Appointed reigning queen and Miss Supranational 2023 runner-up Pauline Amelinckx will be there to crown her successor, as will Mister Supranational Philippines 2023 Johannes Rissler. 

THE HOSTS

Four famous faces are set to serve as the hosts for The Miss Philippines and Mister Pilipinas Worldwide. For the former, it’s a triple crown affair as former Miss Universe queens Philippines Rabiya Mateo and Beatrice Luigi Gomez and former Miss Charm Philippines Annabelle McDonnell will be the hosts for the pageant. As for the latter, former PBB housemate and model Andrea Brouillette will be the pageant’s host.

A big night like this needs some big performances. And the organizers didn’t skimp out with Sam Concepcion (opening), Gigi de Lana and The Gigi Vibes (halftime), and SB19’s Josh Cullen (finale) all slated to perform at the event. And if that wasn’t enough, Nattawat Jirochtikul is expected to attend and give a special performance. Even the crowd is going to be star-studded with Miss Supranational 2023 Andrea Aguilera and Mister International 2023 Kim Goodburn attending.

The Miss Philippines pageant isn’t just new, it also hopes to change the way pageants are seen and done. Even during the application process, the pageant allowed mothers and married women to apply and increased the age limit to 32. As such, expect coronation night to go differently. For starters and probably most famously, there will be no swimsuit segment. The candidates’ speeches are said to resemble TED-Talk-style speeches as they share how they’ll promote the Philippines to the world. Finally, formal wear is being replaced with a red carpet moment ala The Cannes Film Festival.

The Mister Pilipinas Worldwide and The Miss Philippines coronation nights are set to take place at MOA Arena on Tuesday, October 24. Festivities begin at 5 PM onwards.
