Abdur

Introduce yourself.

I’m Abdur, and I express my art through makeup in a way that’s always outside the box. While I absolutely appreciate compliments about my artistry, I also have a soft spot for those who critique my work, especially when they focus on the intricate and clever details I incorporate into my masterpieces. These small details often have a significant impact and are what bring everything together.

How did you get into makeup artisty?

It all started with drawings. I loved drawing back in grade school; it was during this time that I learned how to draw eyebrows that were considered ‘on fleek’ back in those days. Eventually, my passion for art progressed further when I began observing my mom applying makeup before heading to work. This experience opened my heart to the world of makeup, and I decided to use my face as my blank canvas.

I experimented with different shades of pigments until I realized that makeup is not limited to the lipsticks and powders you have in your makeup bag. There’s so much more to discover in the world of makeup. It can also serve as a medium to demonstrate that expressing your artistic side is not solely about using a paintbrush and watercolors. By learning to use the right products, you’ll realize that makeup is a powerful tool for bringing your art to life.

What’s the craziest look you’ve done thus far?

The craziest look I ever created was inspired by one of the works of @artbychaos. I can confidently say that this look marked one of my humble beginnings. What made it truly insane was the fact that I dedicated approximately 8-12 hours to create it, all for a 30-minute filming session. However, what made it even more special was the moment I caught the attention of a real artist, and I felt truly recognized and validated. Reflecting on it now, it serves as a reminder for me to appreciate emerging and struggling artists because, just like them, I used to be one once.

What are the beauty trends you’re expecting this Halloween?

As a movie junkie, I’m anticipating trends inspired by iconic horror movies that have had a significant impact on the public. We all enjoy that nostalgic thrill when we’re reminded of the little details from movies that truly moved us.

How about you? What’s your Halloween look this year?

Monsters as makeup. Monsters of mine that I dealt with. They are the ones that made me for who I am now. The ones that gave me the tough days back then that I didn’t know ill get over with. They are, as the trend goes these days, my ‘Roman Empire.’

Hueben Paloma Kang

Introduce yourself.

I’m Hueben Paloma Kang, a 22-year-old content creator from Surigao City. I used to be based in Cebu City because of college, but since I graduated, I recently moved back to my hometown to rest, unwind, and focus on content creation. You can find me rocking it on TikTok and Instagram, where my content game is all about that 4K QUALITY!

How did you get into makeup artisty?

Makeup found me at a time when I was battling some serious acne insecurities back in 2017. That’s when the beauty world started exploding, with influencers like Bretman Rock, James Charles, Michelle Dy, and others paving the way and inspiring me through their YouTube videos. So, makeup became my secret weapon to boost my confidence. It’s been a wild journey since then!

What’s the craziest look you’ve done thus far?

My demon lava look. It’s wild and fiery, and I couldn’t believe I pulled it off! But there are a couple more gems, such as my Avatar-inspired makeup and my take on the eerie Beldam from Coraline. Those looks took me a good 12 hours to craft, and the attention to detail was worth it!

What are the beauty trends you’re expecting this Halloween?

I’m predicting a surge in demon-inspired looks, thanks to Insidious. However, I’m also crossing my fingers for more exposure of our local mythological creatures. It’s a great way to introduce the younger generation to our rich folklore and to keep these spooky legends alive.

How about you? What’s your Halloween look this year?

I’ve got a few epic looks up my sleeve, but I won’t reveal all the details just yet. Let’s just say I’m going all out, and there’s a subtle hint of Doja Cat’s new song in there!

Maxine Gorospe

I’m Maxine Gorospe, a content creator specializing in both glamorous and creative makeup. Ever since high school, I’ve been passionate about makeup and the artistry of enhancing or transforming one’s appearance. I delved into creative makeup in 2017 and began posting content during the pandemic. Initially, I was just playing around for fun, but one of my videos went viral, and that’s when brands started reaching out to me. Since then, I’ve decided to create more creative looks as a content creator.

How did you get into makeup artisty?

It all began when I was in high school. I consistently saved my allowance to purchase makeup products and avidly watched YouTube tutorials. Additionally, as an art student, I believe this also contributed to my inclination towards creating creative makeup looks. My face essentially became my canvas.

It’s definitely the Annabelle makeup that I did in 2021! It looks amazing, and everything was created using face paint. It took me 9 hours to finish it.

I’m expecting to see a lot of vampy red makeup this Halloween, especially with all the trending songs from artists like Doja Cat and Olivia Rodrigo, along with the recent popularity of dark femme looks I’ve seen lately.

How did you get into makeup artisty?

When I was a freshman in college back in 2010, I was bullied because of my looks. Then, I stumbled upon a video by Promise Phan (dope2111) on YouTube, where she was doing celebrity makeup transformations. I was in awe! I had never thought that one could alter someone’s features just by using makeup. That’s when I was drawn into the world of makeup artistry, and I’ve been a part of the makeup world for 13 years now.

What’s the craziest look you’ve done thus far?

I can’t seem to pick just one specific look, but I have a series of makeup looks that are very dear to my heart. I created The Zodiac-inspired makeup looks, and that series was incredible! It took me over a month to conceptualize, create the props, and complete all 12 looks.
