For book lovers all over, the 2024 Big Bad Wolf Sale probably felt like it was gone in the blink of an eye. If you’re still haunted by that one book you were confident you didn’t need and then instantly regretted not getting, feel the FOMO no further. Big Bad Wolf is back, and it’s coming straight to you through the heart of the Metro: Glorietta.
Millions of books from different genres at discounted prices await at the Glorietta Activity Center and Palm Drive Activity Center from the 19th to the 26th of June 2024. But that’s not all that Big Bad Wolf has to offer this time around. Here are some things to look forward to!
The return of the Big Bad Wolf Sale is a collaboration with Ayala Malls for their literacy initiative, “BookLat: Open. Imagine. Discover.” Aside from reigniting a love of reading in the general public, the project also aims to make reading more accessible to young students in public schools. That’s why the event also features a book donation drive, where customers can also bring books that they love and want to share with others.
Ayala Malls aims to collect a total of 20,000 books. With Glorietta pledging 1,000 to start and Big Bad Wolf promising to match that number, you can help them reach their goals by stopping by and giving away your old books.
Fun for the whole family, and especially young kids, Big Bad Wolf also gives kids the opportunity to further their reading-related learnings through their Little Wolfies Book Crew. These little librarians will welcome you, run the merch stands, man the cashiers, and get an experience that will help deepen their love for books and others.
If being surrounded by piles and piles of books waiting to be discovered wasn’t exciting enough, Big Bad Wolf has you covered. Glorietta is upping the experience by adding an activity corner! There you can listen to music, and visit DIY stations for stamping and recycled doll making so you can engage your creativity to the max.
Every time I hold a favorite item of clothing, perfume bottle, or makeup product and find myself thinking do I want to use this right now? I don’t want to waste it, I try to fight against the urge to “save” yet another item for a more “special occasion“. These days, I’ve been thinking more about how so many of us ascribe to that kind of mindset, effectively limiting us from use things for their intended purpose for the sake of aesthetic or because we’re afraid of “wasting” them.
Over on TikTok, or any social media TBH, you can see how people are obsessed with keeping their items, especially things like expensive bags or shoes, looking pristine and perfect—to the point of never using them for the purpose with which they were designed. You may be familiar with the sentiment of not letting your sneakers crease. That sentiment makes the rounds in real life and on social media. I’ve grown to be increasingly more critical about it.
All of these instances, and my own internal response to them, eventually got me re-evaluating my own mindset about using things for special occasions. If we’re going to live in this increasingly consumerist world, we might as well make good use of the things we have. Things are meant to be used, and not just for special occasions that may or may not come. Is living our life every day not special enough of an occasion?
THE VALUE OF ITEMS
ten years as an antiquarian, hearing nothing but "my relative kept these untouched in a box their whole life but they died, and I don't want this stuff" has radicalized me. annotate the books. use the china. wear the clothes until they wear out. your life should not be a museum https://t.co/WhuTUXhHhB
The value of certain items, whether monetary or sentimental, is a primary reason why we’re not very keen on using them on “ordinary” days. Rare, special, or things that have sentimental value are of course things we wouldn’t want to ruin or use up. Those often get a pass. They don’t make those celebrity perfumes like they used to!
It’s also understandable to want to save fancy items for fancy occasions—we’re not saying you should immediately finish your bottle of shockingly expensive perfume in one week or use the pretty dinner plates every day. People can also want to save things so they can pass them down, or to make them last.
Essentially, things we’re talking about here are like apparel or accessories, functional items or pretty things that you got for the purpose they were designed for. A gorgeous dress, a pair of boots, an aromatic candle. A sticker or journal, even! Ultimately, it’s your prerogative to decide on what you do with your things, but it’s worth examining why we are so often afraid of using things or even just letting them look worn or used.
FEARING “WASTE”
thinking about the girl who brought me coffee from texas and joked that i would have to ration it out for special occasions. my friend, i do not save my good things. being alive is as special an occasion as it gets
Apprehension towards use could stem from the thought that it’s not worth it to use something unless it’s a special occasion. It would be a waste! And honestly, what with the state of the economy, that’s such a valid thought. Why regularly use and immediately use up an expensive item? Why put your shoes in “danger” of wear and tear when you can’t afford another of that pair? Things cost so much these days—wouldn’t want to spend more than you have to.
If you use up something to the point of emptiness or ruin, you essentially will no longer own it. And in this world, ownership is huge. Ownership can become a status symbol, a marker of identity, even. In this capitalist, consumerist, materialistic world we live in, who we are is what we own. The more perfect they look, too, the better.
No, this isn’t meant to be an excuse to use your things up so you can buy new ones. You could—that’s another reason to use ~things~. But we’re trying to break away from the mindset that ownership of more items in perfect, unused condition, waiting for special occasions, is the peak of existence. It’s not a waste to use something for the very reason it was made, and it’s not a crime to ruin perfect condition in the process.
Waiting for that special day to use something or not using it for fear of it no longer looking flawless often leads to that item getting truly wasted, in a way. Perfume expires, leather cracks, your tastes change, things get forgotten.
Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to free ourselves of the apprehension that stops us from using the things we love? Granted, it’s a tall order to be more cavalier with our things, but little by little, we will stop letting our material items run our lives. They’re important for a myriad of reasons, of course, from making our lives easier to serving as an outlet for self-expression. But what good are they just sitting somewhere? Just to look at?
Use, wear, and tear signify something is being used for the purpose it was designed for, and is well-loved, imbibed with more meaning than just being another purchase. Life is more than just what we own and how perfect they look.
So place that sticker you have in your drawer on something you like. Wear that outfit you’ve been saving for a special occasion. Spritz on that perfume. Write on that journal. Crease your shoes and wear them down. Use what you have well and love them, even when they no longer look perfect. Out with saving things for a special occasion, in with making every day special.

It seems that the hottest trend right now and for the foreseeable future is, oddly enough, the past. Nostalgia has become the cultural currency of the moment. What’s old is now new, and our childhood has become what people have been talking about these days. But more than just a tool for corporations to sell you something, nostalgia and reminiscing on the past speaks to how important of a factor our youth plays into who we become. And it’s this vision of our youth that four member P-pop boy group AJAA is aiming for.
AJAA, the young boy group that debuted last year under Cornerstone Entertainment, serves passion, dedication, and boundless energy with every performance. JC, Ash, Alex, and Axl embody a genre that celebrates what makes Filipino youth special, which is no wonder they bagged the title of “Best Rookie P-Pop Group” in the 2024 Big Bold Brave Awards. “Something unique and new,” says AJAA on being “Next Level”. “Something that could distinguish us from other groups.”
True enough, while it’s still early days for AJAA, the P-pop boy group is not only making a space for themselves in the genre, but reminding us that our youth, no matter how shallow it can be, should be cherished and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE
It wasn’t that long ago that P-pop was seen as just an afterthought. But the past year alone has seen P-pop boom thanks to the success of acts like SB19 and BINI. It’s safe to say that P-Pop as a genre is really gaining traction on the international stage – a goal that all P-Pop groups share, according to AJAA. “I believe that it’s every P-Pop group’s dream and I’m hoping more people appreciate our music.”
As fresh faces, AJAA is stepping into a scene where their efforts are now more appreciated by the general public, a fact the group knows and appreciates. “It feels really nice knowing that a lot of people are already appreciating P-pop! We are very honored to be part of this P-pop community and we will do our best to contribute something to the P-pop community as well.”
But AJAA, and the rest of their contemporaries, still very much have their work cut out for them if they are to reach even greater heights both locally and abroad, due in no small part to the influence of social media. “Social media plays a big vital role in the music industry. It really helps our music to be well-known not only here in the Philippines, but also internationally. It serves as a platform not only for music, but also Filipino art and culture to be showcased in a global setting,” AJAA explains.
On Ash: Neon green jacket and pants, Uno Almogela (@uno.almogela), On JC: Neon orange jacket and pants, Carmela Juaneza (@carmuane), On Axl: Fuchsia jacket and pants, Chris Dale (@cchrisdalee), On Alex: Yellow jacket and pants, Rev Osias (@osiasrev), Shoes all wearing, SM Sprint Shoes, Special thanks to: Russell D. Key to this growth is the youth, the arbiter of all things new, next, and now in pop culture. It’s through the youth that sees artists rise from niche acts to the next big thing, and that’s exactly what we’re seeing with P-pop. Go online and you’ll see the majority of the new energy P-pop has been experiencing is driven by the youth, both longtime stans and curious listeners. “I think the reason why P-pop groups are finally growing in popularity among young people Is because we (young people) are now finally realizing how beautiful P-pop really is,” says the group, whose members all sit firmly in Gen Z. They add, “P-pop can offer so much and what young people are seeing now is just the tip of the iceberg!!!”
The use of social platforms to spread awareness of Filipino music (and culture in general) is in the hands of every kababayan, but most especially the youth of today. “P-Pop needs to be promoted more among young Filipinos for it to reach greater heights. [We] believe that it is something interesting and people will love [it] if only they have the chance to be watched.”
THE LOVE OF THE CRAFT
P-pop has all the bells and whistles that you’d expect. The looks, visuals, dancing, singing, and so much more are all there. But what makes it stand out and differ from allegations that P-pop is just a K-pop clone is that it is by Filipinos, for Filipinos. “[P-pop] is made by Us, Filipinos,” states AJAA matter-of-factly.
While there’s nothing wrong with having international influences, when it boils down to it, P-pop is championing Filipino culture and music. The reliability factor is what sets P-pop apart with how you’re watching people who look like you sing about topics you’ve been through. And the best part is that P-pop artists love to do what they do. “We can somehow relate more since it is our own as well.”
On Ash: Deconstructed top and string embellished jeans, Tin Kann (@tin_kann), On JC: Looped yarn shirt and trousers, LE NGOK (@le_ngok), On Axl: Sweater and trousers, LE NGOK (@le_ngok), On Alex: Coat and jumpsuit, LE NGOK (@le_ngok), Footwear all wearing (@le_ngok)
EMBRACING THE INNER CHILD
Sure, nostalgia is trendy these days. But when people look back on what made their youth top-tier, it’s not just because they want to hop on trends. We live in a time where everything needs to go by in a snap of a finger. It feels like time is at 2x speed with how you need to know what you’re going to do with your life even before you finish high school. There’s no time to slow down, enjoy your youth, and live your life.
Nostalgia has proven to be a safe space for many to reminisce because it serves as their way to escape from their problems or envision a youth they always wanted but never had. At the end of the day, you should be celebrating your youth, not wanting to skip ahead.
The subject of AJAA’s music has always been related to the experiences of youth, from the anxiety-ridden plight of one struck by a crush to being in the throes of your first love. And while this is perhaps due to the fact that the members themselves are quite young, it’s also because of their general outlook on their boyhood. “Time is a big wheel that just keeps on going and we can never stop it,” the boys shared thoughtfully.
Despite this mature perspective on the experience of growing up, AJAA still very much keeps in touch with their more playful side. As members of Gen Z, the group has described the youth of today as commonly being misunderstood for their zeal and humor, stating: “People sometimes get weirded out with what the things they find funny, and people tend to judge and call names such as ‘OA’ or ‘mababaw ang kaligayahan’.”
On Ash: Coat, Kree8 (@kree8_studio) Shirt and trousers, LE NGOK (@le_ngok), On JC: printed coat, Kree8 (@kree8_studio), On Axl:puffer vest and trousers, Kree8 (@kree8_studio), On Alex: top and trousers, Kree8 (@kree8_studio), Shoes all wearing, World Balance (@worldbalanceph), Special thanks to: Pam Biares of World Balance Ph (@pambiares)
As young artists, their joyful approach to the craft has led them down a path that aims to uplift the spirits of the audience. “So here is our music to help you remember your childhood, and serve as a gentle reminder that AJAA is here to somehow escape your problems!” A very heartwarming sentiment from these promising rookies.
In case it doesn’t come through on paper, the AJAA boys have nothing but excitement and determination in their hearts when it comes to the future of P-Pop, and we hope this passion only catches fire in the hearts of Gen Z all over the country. After all, there is a wealth of talent (across all categories, but especially musically) among Filipino youths, and now is their time to shine.

The fashion of this generation is a kaleidoscope of values and inspirations, but content creator Ashley Garcia knows a thing or two about taking it to the next level.
Fashion now more than ever has become an integral part of our personal lives, and has even become the foundation for communities and discourse. But what exactly does it take to go the next level with fashion?
There’s more to it than just finding your own style—which, these days, seems difficult what with the myriad of influences at our fingertips. For some people, fashion has become the backbone of their career in content creation, and it’s taken them to places they would never have dreamed of going.
Nails Nail Architect (@nailarchitect.ph), Rings A N T L E R and KRIZIA JIMENEZ (@antleraccesories) and (@kriziajimenez), Earrings A N T L E R (@antleraccesories), Choker Christopher Munar (@christophermunar), Belt bustier Devilleres (@devilleres), Leather panel skirt Thian Rodriguez Manila (@thianrodriguez), Bow cape dress and hooded sweater Bonna Von (@bonnavon),Heels, Melissa Philippines (@melissaphilippines)
Content creator Ashley Garcia knows what it’s like to level up—many of us have watched her do it over the years. From being an OG YouTube icon to full-fledged multi-platform fashion content creator, the 25-year-old has navigated the ever-changing landscape of fashion and social media as realistically as she can.
The winner of the 2024 Big Bold Brave Award for Favorite Fashion Content Creatorhas proven she’s taken her life, fashion, and passion to the next level, all while embodying the direction Gen Z is taking with style.
EMPOWERMENT AND AUTHENTICITY
Nails Nail Architect (@nailarchitect.ph), Rings A N T L E R and KRIZIA JIMENEZ (@antleraccesories and @kriziajimenez), Nose accessory A N T L E R (@antleraccesories), Belt with leg harness KN.A (@kna_officialph), Biker jacket Earl Siton Bepitel (@earl_siton_bepitel_jr), Spiked bra top Devilleres (@devilleresdevilleres), Deconstructed top and cargo pants Joseph Palma (@josephpalmaph), Heels Melissa Philippines (@melissaphilippines)
There’s nothing like a good outfit (or the validation of a good outfit) to make you feel confident in yourself. Ashley believes that fashion and content creation empowers Gen Z to “challenge traditional beauty standards, gender stereotypes, and fashion norms.”
Sharing your style with the world not only gives you an outlet to express your personality (and sometimes—let’s be real—your social standing), but it can also give you or other people a new perspective, or even a new community to bond with.
“For instance,” Ashley shares, “I’ve encountered the belief that my skin tone is less desirable compared to lighter complexions. However, through fashion content creation, I’ve been able to connect with people who share similar features and empower one another through styling tips, a supportive community, and learning from each other.”
Social media has a huge hand in changing the landscape of fashion, as well. Everybody wants good outfit photos, everybody wants good “content”, even if they’re not a content creator. And we see all of those efforts.
“We’re exposed to different reviews, visual outfit inspirations, and ideas,” Ashley notes. But there’s a difference between curating your IG feed and making a career out of creating content. You can’t decline the power you would have in shaping people’s minds if you decide to go down that road. You can’t separate the work from the responsibility of being able to influence in more ways than one.
“I think being a content creator now means having a platform where you build your own community, and it’s no longer just a space for self-expression where you can showcase your lifestyle and creativity,” Ashley says. “Having a platform gives you the privilege to influence, so it’s important to find balance in being authentic and responsible.”
FACING THE NEXT LEVEL
In this ever-changing world where art, fashion, and content seem to be woven together so tightly, taking it to the next level seems to be a difficult ordeal in this era of content creation and social media influencing. For Ashley, though, it just means taking a chance on something that you think is meant for you, even if it feels daunting. Taking those leaps allowed her to be where she is now, steadily growing her platform and expressing herself through her own unique style.
Though the rise of content creation as a job is a relatively recent advent, it’s become a coveted life. Pursuing this seemingly glamorous and envy-inducing passion as a means of livelihood has been a blessing to many, even Ashley.
“But it also comes with challenges, such as the constant pressure to show up and face hateful criticism or judgment,” she admits. “Staying grounded, and my support system, like my family and my closest circle, helps in recognizing that I am not defined by what I do or who I am to other people.”
OWNING YOUR STYLE

Philippines (@sofabph)
There’s a certain amount of joy and fulfillment that comes from embracing personal style and celebrating the diversity of fashion, and this generation is well aware of that, Ashley observes. Gen Z’s take on fashion is bold, and contains a fusion of past and present trends. It’s never boring or stagnant. “It celebrates individuality while being inclusive, sustainable, and creative.”
Although microtrends and viral content still have major influence over people’s fashion choices, there’s no denying the values this generation is upholding with every thrifted piece or every sustainable brand they support. Every piece of clothing on someone’s body is a tapestry of meaning, and every outfit tells a story. But consumerism is unfortunately also another marker of contemporary fashion, placing importance on owning more, acquiring the things influencers have, or buying something to alleviate a perceived need. It’s a mindset that many Gen Zs try to break away from.
“You don’t always need to follow every trend. You don’t always need to have what everyone has,” Ashley advises. Well-known for her college life vlogs and affordable clothing hauls, the creator has since been able to upgrade her wardrobe and her content, featuring higher-end brands her job has allowed her to work with or afford. But she’s also a huge advocate of thrifting and sticking to your own personal style, not just blindly following trends. Confidence will always be key.
“That kind of mindset helps you carry the clothes you wear better, no matter how simple or extra they may be.”
THE FUTURE OF FASHION AND CONTENT CREATION
Although the nature of fashion is cyclical, it’s not always predictable. But there is merit in looking to the past and trying to envision the future. Hopefully, Ashley notes, it includes more confident fashion lovers and a culture of cultivating uniqueness, creativity, and identity in more diverse and inclusive spaces.
Exclusivity has long since been a structural aspect of fashion, but a diversification of the industry means more talent, more creativity, and more voices are brought into the fold—and it’s nothing less than inspiring. Fashion is not just about clothing, luxury, or even style. It’s also about the art of it all, another expression of humanity, and art is for everybody to make and engage with.
“I’ve witnessed how the industry has evolved and opened doors for talented, creative, and hardworking individuals to thrive,” Ashley says. There is always room for change—just look at where we are now. From Gen Z designers making waves to sustainable brands making statements, the world of Philippine fashion is coming to be one of diversity and inclusivity. Content and social media help by amplifying these voices and movements in fashion, bringing them to wider consciousness. We love to see it, and so does Ashley Garcia.
“This evolution towards greater inclusivity and authenticity is something I’m looking forward to. I also hope that people on social media would be kinder to each other, as putting yourself out there already takes so much courage.”

Social media has democratized the kind of content shared online and, more importantly, the creators who make it. It’s a change that can be felt in certain fields more than others, such as beauty. Beauty content creation is one of the most popular forms of content. But there’s only so much you can get from a less-than-a-minute video you watch on a screen.

Behind what some may see as superficial content is the power to embrace and bring out what makes you uniquely you. And the best part? You look good doing it. Just ask Criza. Through her viral content, the Gen Z actress and content creator showcases how beauty content, and beauty in general, can bring about the best of a generation that champions going beyond rigid standards.
THE BEAUTY IS HERE
The beauty about Gen Z is that where you started doesn’t dictate where you’ll go for the rest of your life. Criza was introduced to the general public at only 13 years old through her stint in PBB. After she left the famous blue and yellow house, she embarked on an acting career. But over the past couple of years, Criza took over social media as the internet’s crowned Get Ready With Me (GRWM) queen. With her talent in beauty and outgoing personality, she quickly became a favorite of many online, which is no wonder fans voted her as Favorite Beauty Content Creator at this year’s Big Bold Brave Awards.
At just 19 years old, Criza has taken her craft to the next level. “[K]apag nagawa ko na and nakumpleto ko na yung lahat ng roles na gusto kong gampanan,” the young actress says on what it means to embody “Next Level”. “That’s when I can say na mag ni-next level na yung career ko.” More than just knowing how to turn out a look, Criza has been climbing the faves list of many netizens for how she isn’t afraid to let her outgoing and distinctly Gen Z personality take center stage in what she does.
That, in fact, is what Criza champions in beauty, the freedom to do and be whatever you want. “There’s no rules in beauty or makeup. You just have to do whatever you want and feel the most confident in!” And for Gen Z, when we see someone genuinely enjoying what you do, we gravitate towards it. When it’s fun, it’s fun. As Criza puts it, “[Beauty content] boosts our confidence, we make ourselves look nice so we can feel nice throughout the day.”
FACE CARD NEVER DECLINES
To put yourself out there for millions to see isn’t easy. The scrutiny on social media is real, especially when it comes to beauty. Criza knows this well and isn’t blind to the pitfalls many find themselves online. “It affects A LOT,” says Criza on social media’s effect on today’s beauty standards matter-of-factly. But, while it’s one thing for people to say what they want to say, it’s another to let it affect you. “There’s always a positive and negative side to it. It’s just a matter of how you will take it & how will you let it affect you.”

Self-worth is your best friend in a space where criticism is abundant, haters are around every corner, and the social currency is measured in likes, shares, and views. And the tea is that you don’t have to look far to find it as it can be inside you, or, like with Criza, can be found in the people that love you the most. “My lola!!!” she proudly exclaims on where she gets her famous confidence from. Like with any great mother, Criza credits her lola, who she fondly refers to as her mama, as the one she finds strength from.

“She’s always reminding me kung anong klaseng ganda yung meron ako. That I don’t have to compare myself to anybody and just focus on the beauty that I have.” It’s this mindset of appreciating yourself that Criza is taking to her content. Toxic beauty standards who? That isn’t in Criza’s vocabulary. “Honesty is very important in making any content. Try to always be considerate and true to yourself and your audience.”
BEAUTY WITH A PURPOSE
To some, beauty content is just people putting on makeup. But to many more, it’s not just looking good on social media or hopping on trends. Beauty content is a form of self-expression, an art form, and an escape from the real world. Social media tends to sell you the latest trend as your next personality trait and make you think that what you have is not good enough. But life is too short to worry about whether or not you’re keeping up with trends. What matters is that you do what you do as the authentic you.
“Focus on your own spark, your own traits, your own features,” advises Crzia on how to appreciate your own beauty. “Be authentic and be genuine. True beauty comes within us so always value yourself.” And, as they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day. So it’s ok if you don’t have it all figured out on day one. Just as long as you start and invest in what you do, then you’re on the right path to taking it to the next level. “Whatever aspect in the beauty industry, I think that you’re taking your skill to the next level by investing.”

From access to healthcare to graduation rites, Quezon City is taking the right steps towards being more inclusive and accommodating to the LGBTQIA+ community.
The United States legalizing same-sex marriages across the entire nation was a major milestone in the struggle for equality and LGBTQIA+ rights. Government systems often hold marginalized communities at a disadvantage, failing to protect and serve those who don’t conform to norms of sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.
Legislation and government are among some of the hardest places to enact change, but undisputedly one of the most impactful. But major moments of progress such as the legalization of same-sex marriage bring hope and celebration to the queer community and beyond.
While the Philippines seems a long way from such legislation (we can’t even pass a bill to prevent discrimination against the community), small-scale movements and little wins like those in cities such as Quezon City set examples for other local government units, and national-level government, to follow. From hosting same-sex commitment ceremonies to providing easier access to healthcare for transgender individuals, the Quezon City local government is proving to be a true progressive ally to the LGBTQIA+ community.
Thanks to the tireless work of LGBTQIA+ organizations and activists, as well as the government unit’s commitment to pursue programs and projects to celebrate and help the queer community, there are several initiatives, policies, and events that protect, celebrate, and uplift the queer community—and these are just the start. Philippine government and other governments, take note.
In 2014 (ten years ago!), Quezon City passed an ordinance for a policy that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression. When transwoman Gretchen Diez experienced discrimination and was detained in 2019 for using the women’s bathroom, Mayor Joy Belmonte cited it as a violation of this ordinance, and vowed to enforce it further.
Even before this ordinance, QC also had other initiatives for gender equality and safety. Other local government units across the Philippines also followed suit with similar anti-discrimination ordinances, signaling long-fought struggles, eventual victories, and a few of many more steps forward.
Last year, Quezon City launched a card that allows same-sex couples to make healthcare decisions for each other the way married heterosexual couples do. Through special power of attorney, with the Right To Care card, queer individuals have the power to decide on what treatment their partners receive if said partner cannot make those decisions themselves.
The Right to Care card recognizes the autonomy and commitment of the queer couple, grants them the power of choice, and provides legal protection in various healthcare circumstances and situations. Learn more and apply for one here.
COMMITMENT CEREMONY
While same-sex marriage is not legal anywhere in the Philippines, the Quezon City government has been holding commitment ceremony for same-sex couples for a couple of years now. Queer couples get to reaffirm their love in a special ceremony, say their vows, and celebrate love winning with other couples. This year, the couples also got to receive the first batch of the Right to Care cards. Unfortunately, the commitment ceremony is not legally binding, but it’s a beautiful, heartwarming way to foster hope that one day, something like it, something bigger and better, will be.
ACCESSIBILITY IN TRANS HEALTH
The past year or so has really been a year of allyship in QC. Most recently, the Quezon City government underwent a signing of a memorandum of understanding that signals the beginning of offering expanded healthcare services and gender-affirming care to transgender and transsexual individuals.
In partnership with queer advocate communities TLF Share Collective, Trans Health Philippines, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Philippine Professional Association for Transgender Health, QC will work to offer trans-focused healthcare such as free hormone counseling, assessment, at management, among others.
QUEER GRADUATION RITES
There are plenty of instances where students are barred from presenting themselves the way they want to on school events like prom or graduation. This year, the local government proves they are attuned to the struggles of these queer students and care for them by holding graduation rites where they’re free to express themselves the way they want to. On June 22, Graduation Rights: March with Pride in QC will be a ceremony to honor and acknowledge queer graduates in their whole form, free to live and proud to excel as they are.
The annual Quezon City Pride celebration, nicknamed QC Pride and this year titled #LoveLaban2Everyone, is arguably one of the biggest Pride events in the Metro. Last year, it earned the title of the biggest Pride event in Southeast Asia. Period!
QC Pride provides a safe space for queer people and allies to celebrate and recognize the queer community through art and music, drag and dance, and joyful but purposeful human connection. The free event also calls on people to unite to urge national government to pass the SOGIE Bill. #LoveLaban2Everyone contains a multitude of statements: that Pride is resistance; that queer joy is important; that community, support, and respect for one another is what’s needed to move forward as a society; and that all people are deserving of freedom, equality, and love.
If your dad wants to spend Father’s Day relaxing at home with some peace and quiet, let him. But if you know your dad well enough, then there’s for sure a fun activity that he would enjoy doing with the family—and hopefully you can find it in here. Whether your dad’s the outdoorsy type, the competitive type, or the chill type, try planning an activity that can be enjoyable for him as well as the whole family.
This June 16, celebrate everything your dad (or any father figure in your life) does for you with something fun, something new, or something relaxing. Have some fun bonding moments in different environments, and add a few new memories to the bank this Father’s Day. Bonus tip: maybe don’t make him drive on his day!
Golf and dads…a match made in heaven, apparently. If you or your dad aren’t into golfing outdoors, take a trip to places like Pat’s Putts, with fun activities like indoor mini-golf or bumper cars! Bring out your dad’s inner child as you play a few rounds with him, and spend the day having some competitive fun.
Some dads are artists. Instead of getting your dad a typical #1 DAD mug, how about spending an afternoon with him painting your own mugs or ceramics at a pottery studio or ceramics workshop?
Neither of you even have to be artistic—you just have to be open to expressing yourselves through color and getting creative as you put your own stamp on mugs that you can use every day. Plus, you’ll have a cute memory associated with the mugs you made.
SIP, SNACK, AND PAINT
Image/sip & gogh
If you’re more into paintings than mugs (and having a little treat while you’re doing it), head on over to a sip & paint studio like Sip & Gogh to really let your inner artists shine. You can recreate paintings or even go down your own paths and paint by yourselves. Who knows, your dad might have been hiding his painting talents this whole time.
Gear up and get ready for an adventure up in the mountains! If your dad’s the outdoorsy, active type, spend the Sunday trekking up some mountain trails and getting glimpses of some stunning views. It may be tiring, but it may also be a wonderful, exhilarating experience. Join hiking groups like Adventure Philippines or Sunday Hike Club if you need some guidance or support.
Keep it simple but still sweet by packing a picnic lunch and heading to a park with your dad! You could turn it up a notch and make it a fancy picnic with a charcuterie board, gourmet food, and some dessert to really make it special. Soak up the sun and have some classic family bonding moments outdoors. You could even make a whole party out of it and invite more family or even yours or your dad’s friends.
Even just putting in a little bit of effort goes a long way. You don’t have to go all-out or go out at all on Father’s Day. Sometimes, just taking your time to make a fancy dinner (or generally just a great meal) for your dad is enough to show him you love him. So look up some recipes and get cooking! You can even pull out the grill and show off your barbecue skills right in front of him.
In line with staying indoors, pull out some of those board games that we guarantee you haven’t played in a while and make Father’s Day a simple but engaging family affair. Find out who’s the smartest at Scrabble, the best at Monopoly, or the most cunning at Werewolf! Raise the stakes or play a new board game—win or lose, it’s a great way to spend some quality time together.
Is your dad a plantito? Does he like to keep a garden or lawn immaculate and well-fed? Swallow your aversion to soil and dirt and help him out once in a while. Or, if he isn’t a plantito yet, start him off on his journey to becoming one by getting an easy-to-care-for plant that you both can learn to take care of. You might just start him down the plantito road!
Dads deserve some R&R and pampering, too! Even if he grumbles about it, trust, he’ll thank you at the end of it once he warms up to the relaxing environment a spa offers. From the massages to the facials, the spa could be a welcome break from work or any stress.
What’s a better pastime than bowling? There’s a reason bowling alleys have never lost their popularity over the decades, and are even trendy these days! Bowling is a classic way to spend time with others, and taking your dad to knock down a few pins is fun without being too tiring.
The 4th installment of our Big Bold Brave Awards saw some of the most passionate voting the team has seen since the campaign’s inception. And when you see the list of nominees, it’s not hard to understand why. Championing the biggest, boldest, and bravest personalities that Generation Now has to offer has always been about inspiring people to take action and be better versions of themselves. Whether it was how much noise was made, how novel, or how pointedly truthful, the people, projects, and movements that capture our imagination also capture a part of our history and culture.
This year, our awards focused on those who owned the spaces in their chosen fields and took things up a notch. Without further ado, here are the people you voted for in the categories of: Global Filipino, Pop Culture Space, Fearless Internet Clapback, Fearless Social Media Star, Fearless Sustainable Fashion Brand, Inspiring Personality, and Fearless Social Media Account.
GLOBAL FILIPINO
HORI7ON – WINNER
CHANTY VIDELA
SOPHIA LAFORTEZA
LIZA SOBERANO
MICHELLE DEE
As the first all-Filipino boy group, HORI7ON will always have a special place in our hearts. But that would be dismissing the successes that the group has seen so far. Now with thousands of monthly listeners on Spotify and nearly a million followers on TikTok, their growing popularity is undeniable. The South Korea-based Pinoy boyband has continually captured the hearts of its listeners and is only gaining momentum, as they and other P-Pop groups show us what the Next Level for the genre looks like. But more than that, they remind us that we have more than what it takes to make it on the international stage.

ANG WALANG KWENTANG PODCAST – WINNER
GOOD GANG
DRAG SCENE STANPOSTING
Ang Walang Kwentang Podcast continues to represent the best of content that is both entertaining and insightful. With charismatic hosts Tonet (Director Antoinette Jadaone) and Gege (Artist Juan Miguel Severo) here to guide you through the many trials and tribulations Gen Zers tend to face today, it’s no wonder the podcast is still so well-loved hundreds of episodes later. Relatable and with plenty of heart, the weekly releases never get old. As both host and audience mature together, the topics they discuss also grow more complex. However, Tonet and Gege navigate the increasingly saturated podcast space by staying true to their friendly banter and honest views of the world as it changes.
FEARLESS INTERNET CLAPBACK
LIZA SOBERANO
XYRIEL MANABAT
NADINE LUSTRE
FRANCINE DIAZ
ANDREA BRILLANTES – WINNER
Andrea Brillantes (more commonly known as Blythe) had received some flak for her very public promposal at last year’s Blackpink concert. Accusations of attention-seeking behavior were leveled, but the comment that really got her attention was one related to gender standards. Blythe’s response gives courage to girls who are ready to take their love lives into their own hands, and invites us all to really think about the different ways we may be boxing ourselves and our options in life because of archaic social structures.
FEARLESS SOCIAL MEDIA STAR
JO SEBASTIAN – WINNER
ARSHIE LARGA
M1SS JADE SO
KWEEN YASMIN
FYNESTCHINA
Food is a topic that evokes many strong emotions for varying reasons. For girls especially, the discourse surrounding dieting and supposed “healthy eating” culture is a very personal and sensitive conversation. Jo Sebastian, registered nutritionist and dietician, uses her platform to debunk antiquated practices and beliefs with warmth and gentleness. Her approach to food invites you to do away with value judgements by simply enjoying the experience of eating. Her catchphrases “you deserve to eat” and “add don’t restrict” hit different, and in the best way possible.
FEARLESS SUSTAINABLE FASHION BRAND
CLOSET BY MIKA
NIN AND YANG
STRONG VILLAGE
REVIBE CULTURE – WINNER
PROJECT.PH
RIOTASO CLOTHING
The culture of thrifting and collecting vintage pieces is young people’s rebellion against the fast fashion wave that has changed the face of personal style and also threatens the environment. When you take this a step further by taking your unique creative vision and combining it with a piece of clothing that called to you for its potential, you get brands like Revibe Culture. Their dedication to sustainability married with a championing of artistry in fashion design inspires us to take a look at what we have and make it better. We could all do with this mindset, and that is no doubt why Revibe Culture took the title for this year’s Fearless Sustainable Fashion Brand.
INSPIRING PERSONALITY
CLEO LOQUE
JANET KYLA
ATTY. LENI ROBREDO
MITZI TAN
KALADKAREN
LARRA FRANCESCA
RICHARD JUAN – WINNER
Richard Juan is no stranger to the spotlight, having been a character on iconic shows such as Eat Bulaga and Pinoy Big Brother. But he has made his own path in the industry, as co-founder of the digital production company 28 Squared Studios and managing director of Two Infinity Entertainment. One of his largest projects to date is the crossborder, multinational film Under Parallel Skies, starring Janella Salvador and Win Metawin and directed by Director Sigrid Andrea Bernardo. As the movie’s executive producer, Juan provides an international stage to a culturally diverse experience, which is a direction that the film industry should gladly take.
FEARLESS SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT
MISSCHIEF EDITOR
MASUNGI GEORESERVE
SHE TALKS ASIA – WINNER
MAKO MICRO-PRESS
YACAP PHILIPPINES
In 2024, we as a society have taken plenty of steps forward in the struggle for gender equality. However, as we close the biggest and most glaring gaps, the complexities of the problems remaining require greater finesse if we have any hope of moving forward. She Talks Asia faces these challenges head on and without fear, as it continues to make strides in female empowerment. With thousands of followers across multiple platforms, millions of pesos raised in scholarship funds, hundreds of women given the opportunity to speak their truths to other women on a stage, and countless programs dedicated to the advancement of women in our country, She Talks Asia gives us a glimpse into the Next Level of the modern Filipina experience.
The votes are in and you have spoken. Here are the winners for the Big category of Big Bold Brave Awards: Next Level.
Whenever we hold our annual Big Bold Brave Awards, we always strive to have each succeeding edition go one step above its predecessor. For Big Bold Brave Awards: Next Level, that was achieved and then some. As our way to celebrate the names, faces, personalities, moments, and brands who made it with a definitive period in the last year, the awards went bigger, bolder, and braver with our largest yet: over 30 categories and more than 150 nominees.
We always hope for BBB to be a moment where fans come together to express their support for their faves. And you all gave a truly next-level passion and dedication to voting. The fervor was real, as seen in the over 24 million votes tallied across all the polls. Hundreds of thousands of you pressed start on this game, and for that, we thank you.
Among our three categories, the Big category got the most love. Yes, just like with any protagonist’s journey in a video game, this year’s Big category had its bumps on the road and unfortunate detours. But, it’s safe to say that the love is real, especially when it comes to fans showing their support for the many nominees. Every nominee is a winner if you think about it, but there can only be one name in each poll that comes out on top.
Without further ado, here are the winners for Favorite Ship, Favorite Game Streamer, Favorite Beauty Content Creator, Favorite Fashion Content Creator, Favorite YouTuber, Favorite Rookie P-pop Group, Favorite Pop Culture Moment, Favorite Athlete, and Favorite College Varsity Team.

Donny and Belle have that star power few can match, with their projects and appearances routinely topping the trending charts. Jessica Lee is proof that you don’t need to have been born in the Philippines to understand Filipino culture. The South Korean content creator has amassed nearly 1.5 million followers on YouTube for her content that explores Filipino life through the lens of a foreigner. Yet, unlike other foreign creators who like to Pinoy-bait viewers without giving anything substantial, Jessica breaks that mold with content that is both fun and educational. She immerses herself in Pinoy culture in a way that is both entertaining and authentic, and we love to see it. No wonder she was voted with this W.
FAVORITE ROOKIE P-POP GROUP

From having adolescent crushes to spending an afternoon with the barkada, AJAA looks to stand tall as they speak to the multi-faceted lives of the youth, and in particular, the memories of being young and free. And if they aren’t killing it with their music or performances, they’re going viral on TikTok for videos that you really can only expect from a P-pop group. Watch out for AJAA, big things are on their horizon.
FAVORITE POP CULTURE MOMENT
SB19 AND &TEAM’S AAA COLLAB STAGE – WINNER
SARAH GERONIMO GLOBAL FORCE AWARD
TAYLOR SHEESH’S ERRORS TOUR
HORI7ON’S DEBUT IN SOUTH KOREA
ENHYPEN HEESEUNG’S COVER OF GIVE ME YOUR FOREVER
The poll that got everyone talking. It was a close fight that admittedly got heated by the end of the voting period. But in the end, it was the joint slay of SB19 and &TEAM that won out. AAA 2023 was a big deal considering that it was being held in the Philippines and that a constellation of stars was to attend and perform. So the fact that this collab stage between SB19 and &TEAM became a highlight for many proves just how iconic this was. It was a great way to open the show seeing them perform GENTO on that major stage, not to mention a bit of a cultural collaboration between two groups from different parts of the world.
FAVORITE ATHLETE
DWIGHT RAMOS – WINNER
CJ CANSINO
PIA ILDEFONSO
BIANCA BUSTAMANTE
RENEJAY BARCARSE
Even if you don’t follow basketball, you probably know who Dwight Ramos is. From his time playing for the Ateneo Blue Eagles to going professional in Japan, Dwight has made a name for himself as one of the most popular basketball players in the country. And it isn’t just for his look. He’s a beast on the court and an invaluable addition to any team he is on. It also doesn’t hurt when you have a goals of a relationship with Kianna Dy.
FAVORITE COLLEGE VARSITY TEAM

DE LA SALLE GREEN ARCHERS – WINNER
UP FIGHTING MAROONS
SAN BEDA RED LIONS
LETRAN KNIGHTS
DE LA SALLE LADY SPIKERS
UST GOLDEN TIGRESSES
The De La Salle Green Archers have been a mainstay in the UAAP men’s varsity basketball competitions. But their run in Season 86 was something else. All season long, La Salle had been a strong team who fought their way to the top, which culminated in a win in a do-or-die Game 3 against the UP Fighting Maroons. The deserved achievement marked their first UAAP men’s basketball championship win in seven years. And with UAAP Season 87 on the horizon, they just might add one more to the collection.
