Tariffs? On My Denim Work Jacket? How Your Clothes Are Warning You Of An Economic Recession (Yes, Really)

line
The trends...they're telling us something...

Wait, what do you mean the “office siren” trend is a recession indicator?

The notion of fashion as an extension of the self is an idea that has existed for as long as fashion itself has. A sentiment echoed throughout generations; it is a medium for self-expression, a means of escape, and even a piece of physical armor to brave against the world-at-large.

In fact, in some ways, social media has elevated fashion to become a widely accessible art form. One that still remains an intimate mirror of the artist, but is also now readily consumed and internalized to become our own. The proof is in the pudding! Check out all of the Pinterest boards created across the internet (guilty) or all of the saves on TikTok videos labelled “Outfit Inspiration” or “Fit Check” (also guilty). Society has since evolved this idea of fashion as a personal journey and cultivated it to become a community.

But in recontextualizing fashion as an artform, one can no longer escape the society it exists in. No matter how vital exclusive luxury houses are in setting today’s fashion landscape, they are not resistant to the impermanence of the world. After all, in an industry whose foundation includes cyclical trends and planned obsolescence, the only thing permanent is change.

So this then begs the question, “How is fashion responding to society today?” To that, the answer might just be in between the seams of longer hemlines, the return of the office siren, and the rise of workwear chic. Folks, it’s time to tighten those belts and stop burning holes in your pockets; the clothes are telling us we’re in an economic recession.

A QUICK REFRESH ON RECESSIONS

Pexels

Before going into how fashion fits into the narrative of a recession, it’s important to have a refresher on what a recession is in the first place. According to the International Monetary Fund, a recession is a long-term period of decline in widespread economic activity, often spanning at least two quarters or half a year. So no, society lessening their spending because it’s petsa de peligro is not grounds for a recession; instead, factors like a decline in nominal Gross Domestic Product (the monetary value of all the products and services rendered by a country in a given period, adjusted for inflation) and increased unemployment are.

Commonly, there are five key signs one should look out for when a recession begins to loom. The first two are the aforementioned decline in nominal GDP and increased unemployment rate. In addition to these are a decrease in real income or one’s purchasing power given their income (think how much P1000 used to get you at the groceries versus what it gets you today), stagnation of industrial production and retail sales, and an overall decline in consumer spending.

The two most recent recessions readers may have observed in their lifetime were that of the COVID-19 recession and the Great Recession of 2007 to 2009. Yet it seems like another one could be coming a little sooner than we had thought. Don’t shoot the messenger, but even without the bookish knowledge of nominal GDP and real income, the streets are saying the economy’s next omen lies in your own closet.

FASHION AS A HARBINGER OF ECONOMIC UNCERTAINTY

Christian Dior 1947

It’s very easy to be skeptical of how exactly hemlines correlate with economic activity, and yet the Hemline Index Theory has existed since the 1920s. It started with economist George Taylor witnessing a boom in the hosiery industry after the first World War. In 1929, his PhD thesis titled “Significant Post-War Changes in the Full-Fashioned Hosiery Industry,” connected this increase in hosiery sales to purchases brought on by shorter hemlines.

From there, the cycle seemed to continue: Christian Dior released the New Look in 1947 with long voluminous skirts that seemed to prelude the 1949 recession, and Mini Skirts prowled the streets in the 80s at the time of Reagan’s millionaire boom, only to be ushered out by the Midi Skirts and the Wall Street Crash of 1987.

Although this theory may hinge on cyclical coincidences, one thing is for certain: fashion, once viewed as art, becomes an intimate lens of the world around us. The decision to don something like a work jacket is now less of a personal choice, but one that is ultimately influenced by society—in this case, the economy.

CURRENT FASHION TRENDS AS RECESSION INDICATORS

The way that fashion works is that luxury houses set the trends during their runway shows. It’s all about trend forecasting and research during collection ideation, and that’s where societal influence first makes its mark on fashion. It begins at the most exclusive market, and eventually trickles down to the masses some quarters later. So yes, fashion houses could serve as recession predictors, (e.g. it could be a hit-or-miss, or some trends might just be a pendulum swinging) but the minute it hits the mass market, we might just be in the thick of it.

So what’s on our radar based on the recently concluded FW2025?

The Era of The Suit

Givenchy by Sarah Burton (From Kuba Dabrowski)

Alexander McQueen FW25 (From Alexander McQueen)

Ferragamo FW25 (from Alessandro Lucioni)

Stella McCartney FW25 (IG_ @stellamccartney)

The idea of the modern woman, power dressing and exuding confident femininity, has been a recent takeaway from the rising trend of tailored suits. As art is often heterogeneous in its principles, many have pushed forward the narrative of confident femininity. Although this may be true, this acceptance of tailoring to become part of the everyday, be it from “laptop to lap dance” as Stella McCartney would put it, reveals a collective anxiety of preparing to spend less on clothing.

The office siren and the introduction of multi-purpose garments by profit-driven businesses raises an eyebrow: Haven’t we just finished with the 2010s trend of wearing blazers to the club? As mentioned earlier, less consumer spending is a key sign of the recession. So once brands are veering away from a human’s multifacetedness to be dressed appropriately at different functions, or for their varied personalities, something has to be coming.

Sidenote: This same line of thinking also exists in the already prevalent rise of workwear chic from brands like Dickies or Carhartt: both genres pedestal uniforms in their own right, one’s just in an office.

Lingerie On The Go

Chloé FW25 (IG_ @Chloé)

Givenchy by Sarah Burton (From Kuba Dabrowski)

Miu Miu FW25 (From Giovanni Giannoni)

Similar to suits, having a garment often associated with sleepwear and undergarments as a new casual outfit seems to follow the key sign of consuming less. After all, one purchase guarantees a hundred more uses and environments for this lace set to see aside from the usual bedroom.

At Gucci, we see these lace tops paired with Midi Skirts, another nod to longer hemlines and its accordance with the Hemline Index Theory. And at Miu Miu and Givenchy, reimagined corsets from underneath to over-top are a sight to behold.

Faux Fur

Rabanne FW25 (From Rabanne)

Khaite FW25 (From Khaite)

Valentino FW25 (from Adam Katz Sinding)

Altuzarra FW25 (From Altuzarra)

When luxury fashion houses—commonly exclusive and expensive—begin forging a story that involves faux fur, it might just be less about sustainability and veganism and more about an economic recession. It repositions fur as a luxury; one that is inaccessible even to the rich. Despite the rise of the Mob Wife trend late last year, having brands advertise faux fur could just be an indication of stagnating materials and production.

What faux fur represents then is the attainment of faux luxury, as if it’s a form of escapism to older generations that were economically prosperous enough to have these garments in the first place. Not only do luxury houses dictate what mass markets are about to get, but they also continue to propagate what exactly the wealthy have that the rest of society don’t, from employment with work jackets and tailored suits to the warmth and comfort with fur.

HOW DO WE GO FROM HERE?

Pexels

Whether you like it or not, not participating in the latest fashion trends does not exempt you from the economic impositions. We may not be able to stop it, but there is power in knowing how it may affect our lives so we can recognize its large-scale repercussions.

This is also not a go-ahead to mindlessly purchase these fashion trends! Sure, it may not truly affect the possibility of an economic recession, but I am still an advocate of conscious spending. Have your own agency in creating your own sartorial works of art. Legitimizing fashion as a recession indicator opens up the possibilities for fashion to be a universal lens to view the world, a universal language to be listened to. So if clothes are indeed trying to tell us something, the question now is—what more would you like it to say?

All It Takes Is A Step: This Fun Run Will Get You Ready To Take On Any Challenge

line
🏃🏻‍♀️💨🏅

Hannah Pangilinan’s ‘Just One’ initiative encourages you to get on your feet and just take that first step—and don’t worry, the community’s right there with you.

Related: Why Running Has Become Gen Z’s Newest Favorite Hobby

If you’ve noticed lately, running, climbing, Pilates, hiking, and racket sports are among the most popular sports and activities these days. People are relishing in finding the perfect workout or hobby and enjoying its benefits. What do these activities have in common? One thing that stands out about the current lifestyle and fitness trends, clearer than it has been in the past, is that people recognize the impact of moving with a community.

Marathons, races, and run clubs are huge these days. Instagram Stories are peppered with Strava screenshots, photos of race medals, early morning BFF runs, run equipment and gear hauls, and more. Running has become a wonderful, community-based activity, and whether you’ve known this for a while or are looking to start your own ~running era~, this run club and fun run might just be what you need.

Founded by content creator Hannah Pangilinan and elite running coach and champion triathlete Ani de Leon, Just One is a run initiative that believes in the impact of just taking that first step.

On July 6, 2025, at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Daang Hari, Imus Cavite, the Just One Fun Run, co-organized with The Bull Runner, will bring together first-timers, longtime runners, and challengers for a morning of running, movement, camaraderie, and celebration.

But don’t just expect the fun run! Just One will host open runs and run clinics (hosted by Hannah and Coach Ani) up until the July 6 fun run, making sure every participant is prepared and supported in their running journey. The Just One run club also happens on a monthly basis, where groups of 150-200 people gather for a run clinic to train with Coach Ani.

Inspired by how small actions can set big things in motion, co-founders Hannah and Coach Ani endeavored to share their vision with everyone else. NYLON Manila chats with co-founder and avid runner Hannah Pangilinan to learn how Just One isn’t just a fun run event—it’s a movement based on learning and community.

JUST ONE TO GET YOU GOING

Whether it’s doing just a few minutes of a run or lacing up her shoes, Hannah finds encouragement in the act of doing just one thing. “These tiny acts are what got me to the finish line of my first marathon a few weeks ago,” she shares.

Just One encourages everyone interested in running on doing exactly that—to just do one thing at a time so you can reach your goals. The initiative prides itself on being a non-intimidating (because let’s be FR, joining these exercise and hobby clubs can be a little daunting), pace-inclusive (meaning you’ll be accepted no matter what kind of runner you are), and vibrant community. That’s why they host open runs, run sessions in which anyone can come and join in on the fun—it’s free, all level-inclusive, and specifically made for movement and community.

Deciding to do another fun run this year after last year’s successful event was a big “just one” that Hannah wanted to undertake. “I thought it would be a one season, one time deal,” she says. “But I was encouraged and challenged to continually grow and nurture the community. I am so happy to see people taking and running with the message of Just One just as much and even more than me when I started!”

So even if you’re a beginner, joining Just One means you meet people who have your back and will support you in reaching your goals. Joining also means getting the chance to train before the fun run with a tailored training plan by Coach Ani, and swapping stories and tips with other runners.

FIND COMMUNITY

Though it truly can be daunting to turn a hobby or workout into a whole community thing for a variety of reasons (the fear of getting judged for your ability, for one), Hannah believes in its capacity to help people cross finish lines they thought were impossible to cross.

“Running with a community allows for the identity of being a runner to be further reinforced,” she says.
“To talk about running, commune over running, spend time while running, the healthier lifestyle follows when we are surrounded with people who are aspiring to better themselves and to do so alongside each other!”

So if you’re an avid runner looking for other ways to celebrate and share in the joys of running, or a beginner looking for a space that’ll make you feel motivated, Just One might just be a good fit. Regardless, all you have to do to reach your goals, whatever they my be, is to take just one step. Sooner or later you’ll find that your steps have taken you further than you ever thought you’d go.

“If you’ve never joined a run before, I encourage you to just attend a run club,” Hannah insists. “Be there for the intros, warm up and energy. Little by little, you will realize that while running isn’t easier, it’s one of those things that you build love for. Especially when everyone else is along for the ride.”

Good Hair On The Go: The Low-Maintenance Haircare Routine (And Shampoo) You’ll Swear By This Summer

line
Get hair that’s hotter than the sun.

Let’s talk about how to make sure your hair stays smooth, shiny, and manageable, no matter what the season throws your way.

Related: 11 Locally-Available Hair Tools That’ll Make Sure Your Hair Will Always Give

Anyone else guilty of planning the perfect summer outfits and having your makeup bag packed, only to forget a key part that can truly make or break the look? Yep, we’re talking about your hair. Between sun exposure, salty sea air, and all the styling, take this as your sign to double down on hair care—minus the stress, of course.

Before you feel the pressure, know this: your summer hair doesn’t have to be high-maintenance to look fresh and fabulous. A low-maintenance routine, paired with the right products (hello, Sunsilk), is all you need for hydrated, healthy hair. For the on-the-go girlies, read on—and best believe you’ll be swearing by this haircare routine before the season’s over.

Everyday Essential: Cleansing with Shampoo and Conditioner

One of the biggest mistakes people make when it comes to summer hair care is skipping proper cleansing. Between beach trips and late-night sunset parties, your hair can easily accumulate sweat, saltwater, and styling products, leaving it feeling weighed down and lackluster. The solution? A simple routine that starts with the basics: shampoo and conditioner.

This dynamic duo is your everyday essential for clean, refreshed, and manageable hair. With the NEW Sunsilk Smooth & Manageable Activ-Infusion, a powerful blend of oils, vitamins, and proteins, these products not only cleanse but also protect your hair from the five causes of frizz. Tip: Rinse your hair with lukewarm or cold water to seal the cuticles and enhance that fresh feeling.

The Second (But Very Important) Step: Leave-In Conditioner for Smoothness

Hair PSA: Leave-in conditioner isn’t extra—it’s essential. It hydrates, detangles, smooths, and even shields your strands from UV rays and heat damage. Think of it as skincare, but for your hair.

The best time to apply is right after you shower—on damp, towel-dried hair—when your strands are most absorbent. Whether you’re air-drying after a shower or heat-styling for a night out, this step gives your strands the moisture and protection they need to stay soft, manageable, and frizz-free all day. Miss it, and your hair will feel some type of way.

Weekly Wonder: Hair Treatment for Healthy Strands

Even the simplest hair routine deserves a little extra TLC. Once a week, during your ~everything shower~, take a moment to reset with a treatment mask. From sun-soaked days to sticky city heat, your hair goes through a lot—and this staple provides the extra layer of care your strands crave after being exposed to harsh elements.

While it’s important to find a formula suited to your hair type, a tried-and-tested favorite for the season is one with coconut oil. Its natural hydrating properties make it perfect for tackling dryness and damage. Whether your hair is curly, straight, or somewhere in between, this deep treatment is a summer must-have that’ll leave your strands ready for whatever the season brings.

Fast Fix: The Hair Hack You Can Clip On

Styling your hair in the summer is a must, but it doesn’t have to take all day. Think of it as the finishing touch to your makeup routine or outfit of the day. Especially when you’re chasing the day, a hair accessory can instantly elevate your look. Whether it’s a sleek bun with a claw clip, a half-up style with a scrunchie, or soft waves tucked behind a bejeweled headband, these small add-ons pull everything together.

Paired with smooth, frizz-free strands, it’s effortless styling that still feels intentional. Basically? It’s main character energy, but make it easy.

Bonus Tip for a Stress-Free Summer

With these easy-to-follow tips, you’ll be ready for any summer adventure—minus the stress of complicated routines. From hydrating shampoos to on-the-go solutions like dry shampoo and leave-in conditioners, you’ve got everything you need to keep your hair smooth, shiny, and ready for whatever the day (or the sun) throws at you.

Time to make this summer even better? We recently attended Sunsilk’s #Hairkada Meet & Greet event, where the theme was all about embracing new experiences and celebrating self-expression. To make your next adventure even easier, Sunsilk revealed an exciting partnership with Klook. Now, planning your next getaway is a breeze—and you can snag a 5% discount on Klook travel activities with the code SUNSILKPH. Whether you’re headed on a spontaneous escape or a well-deserved staycation, let Sunsilk take care of your hair, while you create unforgettable memories.

All The ‘Multo’ Edits Are Telling Us We’re All Hopeless Yearners At Heart

line
👻👻👻

We admit it—we love to yearn. Now give us all the ‘Multo’ edits!

Related: NYLON Manila Picks: The Media That Took Over Our Faves List This March 2025

If you’ve been online the last few weeks, we can almost guarantee you’ve come across an edit set to Cup of Joe’s Multo on your feeds and TikTok FYPs. No ship, no show, no circumstance is safe from being made into a video edit set to the stirring, evocative track, proving not only its impact as an edit soundtrack, but also as a universally-beloved song for yearners and masochists and sadists alike.

@mrvelmya i hate marvel for this 🙁 #fyp #marvel #marvelstudios #peterparker #gwenstacy #andrewgarfield #emmastone #theamazingspiderman #fypage #edits #edit ♬ original sound – maya

Multo was released as part of the band’s 2025 album Silakbo, and was dropped as a single with a music video starring real-life couple Elijah Canlas and Miles Ocampo. Perhaps best known for its hook “Hindi na makalaya / Dinadalaw mo ‘ko bawat gabi / Wala mang nakikita / Haplos mo’y ramdam pa rin sa dilim,” or its post-chorus “Hindi mo ba ako lilisanin? (Dinadalaw mo ‘ko bawat gabi) / Hindi pa ba sapat pagpapahirap sa’kin,” the track has wormed its way into collective consciousness, deservingly getting the spotlight as a song all about old ghosts and things we can’t seem to escape from.

Hauntingly emotional, people online have deemed it the edit song of the moment, using it as a soundtrack to all kinds of media, characters, couples, and situations, bringing everybody down to their knees as they drown in the feels—and you know what? We’re not complaining.

HINDI NA MAKALAYA

Multo has made enough appearances in edits for people to crack jokes about the frequency of its exposure. It’s hilarious at times, especially when it’s an edit of the most unexpected people and ships. But it also can be pretty painful! We can count a handful of edits where we wanted to call “foul!” for how badly they made us relapse. Multo as the edit song as of late, is applicable to exes (fictional and real-life ones), tragic romances, ships that never sail, as well as even stranger ones like ex-friendships, characters that only share one scene, PBB housemates, or even, yes, basketball ex-teammates.

@whos_khennn I will never recover from this movie #bridgetoterabithia #annasophiarobb #joshhutcherson #multocupofjoe #multo #fypage #xyzbcaa ♬ Multo – Cup of Joe

Besides being another bringer of milestones to Cup of Joe, Multo is a beautiful song that does its job of making people feel what the band intended them to feel. Why else would everybody across fandoms, cultures, and countries make such heart-wrenching edits of their own?

Written as a way to express longing, sadness, and lingering grief, Multo reassures everyone that while feelings about certain things may never leave us, it’s alright—it’s a part of life, and we aren’t alone in experiencing it. There’s also the trend of sharing what one’s “multo” is, such as opportunities not taken, the kind of person one could have been, futures, TOTGAs, and more, showing its message resonates even beyond romance and relationships.

Though we whine and jest about the feels a Multo edit brings, it’s always a welcome experience to be reminded of the media, characters, and couples we’ve come to know and love, romantic or otherwise—no matter the depth of sadness and yearning it brings with it.

HINDI NA BA MA-MAMAMAYAPA?

@yawnsedits didn't think i'd be editing them in 2025 yet here i am #darlentina #darna #valentina #multo #edit #fyp ♬ original sound – yawns

Few have escaped being edited to Multo—not AlDub, not idol ships, not Professor X and Magneto, not Toothless and Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon, not Joy and Sungjae, not Precious (Esnyr) and Brent from Esnyr’s High School Series—and fewer have escaped seeing a Multo edit on their feeds and FYPs.

It’s one thing to see our favorite pairings (tragic or otherwise, romantic or otherwis) and relive the feelings they bring out in us, it’s another to layer it with the haunting yet cathartic vibe of the song. Though it may be easy to get tired of hearing the same verse with every swipe of your FYP, one can’t deny how moving (or at the very least, quite entertaining) an edit is when it’s set to Multo. The impact!

@userszn2lawschool sinong 'di mumultuhin sa non-rom na kdrama🙁🙁🙁 s2 pls #multo #lawschool #fyp ♬ Multo – Cup of Joe

Not only is it bringing the song to new audiences across pop culture, it’s also showing us we’re not alone. What do you mean Filipino Klaroline (from The Vampire Diaries) shippers exist in the thousands? Where have y’all been? What do you mean we’re not the only ones who have SolHwi from Law School (2021) living rent-free in our minds?

Time and time again, we expose ourselves as enjoyers of the sad. We watch movies we know we’ll cry over, listen to songs that have us remembering past relationships, and yes, make edits that we know will recruit others into sharing our sorrow. Embrace it! Embrace the yearning. There’s nothing wrong with allowing ourselves to feel depths of emotions (as long as we’re not wallowing in sadness in a way that harms us in a very serious way), and songs like Multo having its time in the spotlight normalizes that even more.

What’s your favorite Multo edit?

4 Fun Facts About GAT, The Rising P-pop Boy Group Taking Over Your Feed

line
So there's this new P-pop group on the scene.

We have a new rising P-pop group on the scene, and they already have a viral TikTok hit to their name.

Related: Ready To Stan: These New P-pop Groups Are On Our Radar

If having a viral dance challenge to one of your songs is a parameter of success, then rookie P-pop group GAT is starting strong. Unless you’ve been living a chronically offline life, you’ve probably heard or seen GAT’s Daleng Dale on social media, already one of 2025’s notable dance trends. But what’s even wilder is how GAT has only been active since this January. A viral hit and not even six months old yet? Ok GAT, we see you.

GAT is a 5-member boy group under Viva Artists Agency and consists of members Ethan David, Derick Ong, Michael Keith, Hans Paronda, and Charles Law. Despite only training together for eight months, these boys are showing promise with experience in multiple fields, from singing, dancing, acting, commercials, and more. P-pop may have found a new rising artist and future favorite to stan. If you want to know more about GAT or are just curious because of the Daleng Dale hype, scroll down.

THEIR NAME IS ROOTED IN FILIPINO CULTURE

GAT

INSTAGRAM/GATPH.OFFICIAL

Just like their brother group ALAMAT, GAT’s name traces its origins to Filipino culture. In particular, their name is inspired by the Filipino honorific Gatdula, which was once given to Filipino gentlemen who brought pride and honor to the country. Think of it like the Filipino version of “Sir”. GAT the name itself, which was chosen by VIVA’s big boss Vic del Rosario, stands for Gawang Atin To, showcasing how Filipino talent, culture, and creativity won’t be far from what the group has to offer.

THEY’RE TECHNICALLY STILL IN THEIR PRE-DEBUT ERA

When you can make as much noise as GAT has and you’re still a pre-debut boy group, you know there’s something special there. GAT dropped their first pre-debut single, Huwag Ka Nang Humirit, on January 10, 2025. Reflecting the band’s nature where the members lean towards different genres, their take on the James Reid song is less of a cover and more of a new version with their spin on it. As of this writing, the group’s official debut has yet to be announced, but GAT already looks to be on their way to being one of 2025’s breakout rookies in the P-pop space.

THEIR VIRAL SONG DALENG DALE IS ACTUALLY A COVER

ICYDK, their latest pre-debut release that has netizens in a chokehold is not an original song. Sticking with the theme of releasing covers for their pre-debut tracks, GAT earned themselves a hit with their cover of Daleng Dale by MMJ. Since the start of the year, the uber-catchy track has received new life thanks to its heavy prominence on the popular digital series Ang Mutya Ng Section E

GAT’s version gave the song a Gen Z energy for the 2020s that added to the track’s moment in Pinoy pop culture, even spawning a viral TikTok dance challenge that you probably have seen someone do on your FYP (you might have even done it yourself). Not only is GAT’s cover of Daleng Dale featured on the OST of Ang Mutya Ng Section E but it’s also surpassed five million streams on Spotify alone. That’s an impressive feat for a rookie pre-debut group, and it’s clear that the P-pop spotlight is firmly on GAT ATP.

MOST OF THE MEMBERS ARE ALSO ACTORS, AND YOU’VE PROBABLY SEEN THEM ON A CERTAIN POPULAR SERIES

It isn’t just music that the members of GAT are making a name for themselves. Most of the members are budding actors, and, in fact, four of the members are part of the cast of Ang Mutya ng Section E, namely Ethan, Charles, Michael, and Derick. Chances are you probably heard about the members because of the the show first before you realized they were part of a P-pop group. Regardless, being cast on the hit show helped put them on the radar. And honestly, GAT’s cover of Daleng Dale being used as the opening song for a series almost all of the members are also in is the kind of synergy other companies wish to do.

It’s safe to say that the future is bright for GAT, and we can’t wait to see what these boys have cooking next.

Dolly De Leon Is Taking Over Hollywood, And As She Should

line
Hello Dollywood.

Mother just keeps on winning.

Related: Liza Takes LA: What Liza Soberano Has Been Up To In Hollywood

Talent can take you far in the acting industry, but sometimes, it takes that one breakout role to really put you on the map. For Dolly De Leon, that came in 2022. While she’s always been a great actress, the world (and many Filipinos) really understood how great of an actress she was with Triangle of Sadness

Playing the gritty and tough Abigail, Dolly De Leon was catapulted onto the global conversation with her critically acclaimed and award-winning performance. But her awards season run for the film wouldn’t be the only time she’s made her mark on Hollywood. Since then, she hasn’t been slowing down with projects left and right. Dolly De Leon is getting those acting roles in Hollywood, and we love to see it.

DOLLY GOES HOLLYWOOD

Over the past few years, Dolly De Leon has appeared in a handful of Hollywood projects, both big and small. She played a supporting role in the Prime Video rom-com Jackpot!, which starred John Cena. She also earned rave reviews in the well-received indie movie Ghostlight. But Dolly De Leon’s next Hollywood project is arguably her biggest yet in season 2 of Nine Perfect Strangers. ICYDK, Nine Perfect Strangers is a TV series from Hulu based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty that follows nine, well, strangers who travel to a health-and-wellness resort for promised healing.

DOLLY DE LEON

The resort is run by enigmatic guru Masha Dmitrichenko, played by the iconic Nicole Kidman. In season 2, which is set to premiere on May 21, nine new strangers are invited by Masha Dmitrichenko to a transformational wellness retreat in the Austrian Alps. And one of those strangers is played by our very own Dolly De Leon. Also, this isn’t the first time Nicole Kidman worked with a veteran Filipina actress, as she worked with Ruby Ruiz in the mini-series Expats in 2023. If we had a peso for every time Nicole Kidman worked with a veteran Filipina actress, we’d have two, which is not a lot, but the fact that it’s two is pretty cool.

DOLLY DE LEON HOLLYWOOD

The images we have so far from the upcoming season feature Dolly De Leon alongside Nicole Kidman, Henry Golding, Lena Olin, Annie Murphy, Christine Baranski, Lucas Englander, King Princess, Murray Bartlett, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Mark Strong, and Aras Aydin. That’s a stacked cast, and the fact that Dolly De Leon is among them feels right and correct.

DOLLY DE LEON NINE PERFECT STRANGERS

Technically, the news that she was set to appear in the second season has been public since 2023, but actually seeing it in photos is something special. Secure that Hollywood bag Ms. Dolly! It’s not every day you see Filipino actors, especially homegrown talent, securing roles in Hollywood, so her success is not just a win for her, but for the local industry as well. We’re manifesting even more roles for Dolly De Leon because she deserves it.

If you want to catch Dolly De Leon in action in her next Hollywood project, Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 premieres on May 21, kicking off with two episodes, followed by weekly releases.

Since it started airing, Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition has not left the trends list and the housemates and their shenanigans have been the talk of the town, once again proving the pop culture relevancy of the series. This time, this PBB edition features young artists from talent agencies GMA Sparkle and Star Magic, actors and influencers, gunning for the coveted title of Big Winner.

From the newest it-boy River Joseph to hardworking fan-favorite frontrunner Esnyr, young aspirant Charlie Fleming to the always-entertaining Bianca de Vera, the current roster of housemates on PBB Celebrity Collab Edition is a mixed bag of talents looking to do their best and catch their next big break. PBB is very good at showing the audience a different side to the people they place inside the house (for better or for worse)—a stellar opportunity for young artists wanting to show the world what more, and what else, they’ve got. Furthermore, the show itself has become a staple of Filipino pop culture, catapulting aspiring talents into stardom. It’s also just riveting entertainment to many.

But either way, whether they’re giving you Big Winner vibes or they just make for great TV, we’d love to know who your favorite housemate on PBB Celebrity Collab Edition is! Show your love for the young artist who you think is doing their absolute best, the artist who’s being the most responsible, the artist who’s got the most star potential, the artist who’s making the show that much more interesting, the artist best at “playing the game”, the artist you think deserves to be Big Winner—you decide! (And don’t worry, there’s no need to vote by pair or spend money to vote.)

POLL REMINDERS

Your regular reminder that this poll does not guarantee anything (such as content with the winner/s), as it’s just a fun poll to show your love for the current PBB housemates (those still in the running to be the Big Winner as well as eliminated ones). Also—a reminder to keep the voting fair and clean, and to be patient as the host website deals with the volume and speed of people voting. Have fun with it, good luck, and thank you!

You can vote as many times as you want! This poll closes on April 20, 11:59 PM (and we’ve added the new housemates to the choices!).

UPDATE: Voting is now closed and the votes are in. It was a tight battle, but in the end, Will Ashley, Ang Mama’s Dreambae ng Cavite, came out on top as your favorite PBB Celebrity Collab Edition housemate. Thank you to everyone who participated in the vote and showed their love to their fave housemate.

With April in the middle of the summer season, you can expect those summer travel and vacation plans to be realized. With that, it means we also need a good summer playlist to meet the moment. And luckily for us, the month begins with quite a few new jams and bangers from our fave artists locally and internationally. Check out the new songs that you may want to add to your playlist below.

END OF THE WORLD – MILEY CYRUS

Miley sounds great as always in her new toe-tapping pop single about forgetting all your worries just for a moment to enjoy life.

AZIZAM – ED SHEERAN

Ed Sheeran’s comeback sees him combine Persian and Irish folk music in a pop context for a tune that serves as a call to action to live your best life. Oh, and the song’s title is a Persian term of endearment that means “my dear” or “my beloved”, in case you were curious.

DANCE WITH MY MISTAKES – LOLA AMOUR

Lola Amour adds a sprinkle of disco spirit to their signature sound for a fun and groovy flight around the world.

ADULT SWIM – KAI

You can always count on KAI to bring the sensuality with his new song that begs your attention with its interesting chorus.

SILVER LINING – LAUFEY

New Laufey music for the summer? We won! Her new track is the latest love song in her repertoire, this one about being able to set your true personality free when you fall in love.

POTION – DJO

Joe Keery does it again with the release of his third studio album under his stage name Djo called The Crux

LOOSE – ENHYPEN

More laidback and mellow (at least production-wise) than what we’ve come to expect from the group, Loose sees ENHYPEN let their lover-boy side take over.

BACK TO ME – THE MARIAS

This is the kind of song you listen to with your headphones and let the atmosphere take over for the best listening experience. It’s like an alt-rock spell on getting that special someone back.

EVERYBODY’S TRYING TO FIGURE ME OUT – HAIM

HAIM reminds us that people can and will have their own opinion of you, and that’s ok. What matters is that you listen to your own opinion.

TONIGHT – PINKPANTHERESS

Less than two minutes songs allegations found dead in a ditch. And this beat? It’s everything.

SABI KO NA – YARA

YARA fuses Y2K nostalgia with modern hip-hop and R&B flavor for their comeback single that leans into urban music with Pinoy flair. Their latest is equal parts attitude and maturity.

COOL – MICHAEL CLIFFORD

5SOS’s Michael Clifford just made his solo debut with the track cool. The song is an exploration into self-doubt and the often uncomfortable process of navigating insecurity. The track captures the uncertainty of trying to fit in, questioning whether you belong, and feeling out of place in unfamiliar spaces.

THE FLOOD – AURORA

An experience, a vibe, a moment, and a feeling.

MILAGRO – KAI BUIZON

This bossa nova-inspired track explores a love so unforeseen it feels almost supernatural. It weaves a story of romantic serendipity, capturing the feeling of finding a love that feels like a rare blessing—one that brings a sense of safety and acceptance never felt before.

SY•NC – PLS

A surprising mix of genres find themselves working surprisingly fine in the P-pop group’s latest release.

23:42 – RACHEL CHINOURIRI

Rachel is the next pop-rock diva you need to have on your radar. She has the bops, as heard in her new EP Little House

ROSE – HANA

Newly debuted seven-member J-pop girl group HANA’s first drop is a high-energy song that gives each member a chance to showcase their abilities, while also bringing them together to show how HANA becomes stronger together.

Bianca De Vera

IJBOL It-Girl: Bianca De Vera Has Us Wishing She Was In Our Barkada

Bianca core

Bianca De Vera, you will always be famous!

Related: 5 Fun Facts About The Internet’s New Favorite Golden Retriever Boy, River Joseph

As the first housemate to enter Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition after the initial batch, Bianca De Vera might have been an awkward fit in the house. But the Gen Z actress not only fits right in, she has also endeared herself to many viewers with her fun personality and bubbly charm, not to mention her slow-burn friendship and reconnection with fellow housemate and former co-star Will Ashley that radiates intense silent yearning energy.

Even before she joined PBB, Bianca had always understood the vibe. Her TikTok account is a goldmine for addicting content, she made her acting debut in KathNiel’s teleserye 2 Good 2 Be True (no big deal), was a former contestant on Junior MasterChef Pinoy Edition, and if that wasn’t enough, Bianca is also an occasional race car driver, a trait she got from her father. She’s equal parts unserious and caring, and we love that for her. Scroll down for some of our favorite Bianca moments that had us wishing she was our bestie.

WHEN SHE LOWKEY HAD THE BEST MOMENT IN THE PBB ONE SHOT FILM

The fact that this was Bianca’s first weekly task in PBB and ate that spiel up. We love a charismatic actress.

WHEN SHE SQUASHED HER BEEF WITH AC BONIFACIO

Bianca’s entry in PBB had some drama behind it, mainly for AC Bonifacio given their shared history with Harvey Bautista. But as the two mature young adults that they are, AC and Bianca quickly ended any misunderstanding they might have with each other which led to their reconciliation and friendship. May all petty drama in our lives be ended this maturely.

THE DUO WE NEED TO PROTECT

Petition for more Esnyr and Bianca moments together because this pairing is unbeatable. Honestly, it’s giving Gen Z Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis the way Esnyr and Bianca complement each other’s vibe so well.

WHEN SHE GAVE STRONG LITTLE SISTER ENERGY TO THE BOY HOUSEMATES

The teasing of the boy housemates with Bianca just made us love her even more TBH. Bianca is so fun to watch even when she’s not trying to make you laugh.

THIS ATE MOMENT

Now that’s ate to us with how Bianca comforted Charlie following AC’s eviction. You just know Bianca has a good heart with how she stepped up like that even if she also was hurting from AC’s elimination.

BESTIE BEHAVIOR

You know what, at least it’s not a zero. The way Bianca and Mika became a pair because they scored some of the lowest scores on the challenge is lowkey iconic. It’s like when you and your bestie learn your quiz scores and can’t help but IJBOL even though it’s low. But in the good and the bad, Bianca and Mika have been there for each other, and that’s what counts.
