Listen—you gotta move now and then, bestie! Especially if you do work that has you sitting down for a long time, or you’re very fond of just lying down and bedrotting all day. Time for a lifestyle change! Living a sedentary life is quite dangerous, so get ahead of it while you’re still young. Playing a sport, taking a walk, or going up and down the stairs can keep you active and improve your health and reduce health risks in the future. Some cardio every other day can be a good start, and build up to more movement that’ll keep any diseases, conditions, or future health issues at bay.

You don’t have to spend a lot to book a class or buy a subscription—you don’t even have to do it every single day (but please move every single day as much as you can, it’s important for your heart), but these activities and simple exercises will get the blood pumping, the muscles flexing, and the organs working. Try one or a few of them out!

TAKE A WALK

@riopia_ I started by walking 15 minutes a day and gradually increased to more than 10k steps daily. You don’t need to start big; what’s important is that you start and build the habit first. Consistency is key. 🫶🏻 follow me for more tips 🩷 #weightloss #pcos ♬ casually budotsing – skibidi bading

Enough screen time, bestie. Go take a walk. Touch some grass! The simplest way to get active is to start walking. Getting those steps in is important for your overall health. It burns calories, strengthens your heart, gives you a boost of energy, and it even gives you some time alone to get away from everything that stresses you out. Even just taking a walk around your neighborhood or barangay helps.

LET IT OUT ON A TREADMILL/WALK PAD

@alliehbennett Replying to @emily.gellis the 100th treadmill strut HAD to be a good one – so i put together the most iconic strutting songs that make me feel like the hottest person on the planet 💅🏻 the first song is the first strut video i ever made and cooldown is the song that inspired the full workout playlists (i’m sentimental!! and i will not apopogize!!) i hope you love this one as much as i do, and thank you for hanging around long enough for ONE HUNDRED STRUTS !!!! i really truly would not be here without any of you 🫶🏼 #treadmillstrut #workoutplaylist #wlw ♬ Escapism. – Super Sped Up – RAYE

Working remote jobs have plenty of us in the same position for hours on end—butt on a chair, hunched over a desk—and we wonder why we have back pain and poor health. If you’ve got stairs, use them to your advantage. Go up and down them for an easy aerobic workout that won’t have you straying too far from your home or your desk. You can also spice the exercise up with different activities.

OCCASIONAL INDOOR ROCK CLIMB

Perhaps the trendy sport/hobby these days is for you. Bouldering or indoor rock climbing has both your entire body and your brain working as you figure out best routes on a rock climbing wall. There are plenty of rock climbing gyms around the Metro, and while this activity does require you to hand over some money and spend time at the gym, this could be a worthwhile, fun activity to do every once in a while.

A GUIDE IS THE WAY

Whether it’s dancing or an at-home workout, a video- or app-guided exercise is a pretty easy way to get your body moving wherever you are. There are so many creators out there making exercise content for all kinds of people—energetic dancers, chill people who just want a slow session of yoga, people who want to target specific areas of their body, and so much more.

Another important thing to always remember to do besides do some cardio is to stretch your muscles! It keeps your muscles flexible and mobile, which reduces the risk of strains and muscle damage. Stretch when you get out of bed, stretch after every hour you spend at your desk–just stretch as often as you can to stay limber.
