EASY LOVER – MILEY CYRUS

Miley’s new 13-track album blends emotional clarity with expansive, cinematic production for a solid body of work from an artist who continues to redefine herself.

MISBEHAVE – LOLA AMOUR

Lola Amour’s new track represents the thrill of letting loose without a care for consequences. The song takes listeners deeper into an inevitable spiral of bad decisions.

MAN OF THE YEAR – LORDE

Okay experimental. Each new release has us curious as to how the full album is going to sound.

THUNDER – SEVENTEEN

SEVENTEEN’s new studio album HAPPY BURSTDAY celebrates 10 years of the group by expressing their explosive energy as they embark on the next chapter of their career.

JUST KEEP WATCHING – TATE MCRAE

The F1 movie continues to prove its worth as one of the most high-profile OSTs of the year.

TILT – IRENE & SEULGI

Of course Irene and Seulgi will serve again and deliver maximum levels of cunt energy.

NEVER ENDING STORY – IU

Oh IU, another cinematic masterpiece that will leave us in an emotional wreck we fear.

FAME IS A GUN – ADDISON RAE

Say what you want about Addison, but she knows how to make a bop.

NICE TO EACH OTHER – OLIVIA DEAN

Olivia’s latest drop explores themes around the complexities of modern love. An uptempo number, it is built around breezy guitar melodies and subtle harmonies underpinning her soulful vocal performance.

THIS SONG – CONAN GRAY

For the first release of his upcoming new album, Conan delivers a sentimental number on unrequited love and a heartbreakingly beautiful and intimate depiction of unspoken desire.

LOVING MYSELF – AVA MAX

It’s an expected pop track from Ava, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

FILIPINA QUEEN – G22

Rapping queens? Give these girls a trap beat and they’ll still deliver.

HGH AS YOU – MARK TUAN

Forget vices, with Mark’s new track, all you need is to be with that special someone to experience that kind of high.

MENACE – MILLI

This suave R&B crossover track with introspective lyrics represents MILLI’s inner emotions as she chooses to walk away from a painful relationship.

CUTTERPILLOW – ENA MORI

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of The Eraserheads’ Cutterpillow album, Offshore Music brought its artists together for a tribute album offering a fresh take on the classic tracks, reimagined by the indie label’s eclectic roster.

INBOXXX – YOUNG COCOA

Through smooth hip-hop beats and his signature vocal tone, Young Cocoa lets a girl know he isn’t interested in playing games and being a third party in a relationship.

FALLING OUT – KIANA V

Kiana’s latest release is a slow-burning R&B track that transforms emotional reckoning into an empowering anthem for women everywhere.

HOE – BHAD BHABIE AND BENJAMIN ELGAR

In my hoe era with this song about embracing your wild side and freeing yourself to live your life.

NEW BEGINNINGS – HILLARI

Her second EP is a deeply personal body of work that embraces the chaos, doubt, and quiet beauty of starting over. It’s a mature and courageous step forward that unfolds like a poetic and sonic journal, exploring themes of transformation, surrender, and the quiet strength found in growing into one’s true self.

👩🏻‍💻📺✨📸

Our favorite tech, games, trinkets, and little lifestyle faves made our May days even sunnier.

Related: NYLON Manila Picks: The Lifestyle Faves That Became Our Conversation Starters In April 2025

We love a purchase with great ROI—something we bring, use, look at, or play with all the time. Our lifestyle faves often fall under vastly different categories, from games to anik-anik, trinkets to gadgets, apps to cameras, but one thing they all have in common is how they made us way happier than we were when we were without them. A little dramatic? Maybe, but we can’t deny the joy these little faves have given us! Check out this month’s round-up of our lifestyle faves right here.

Call Of Duty Cold War Campaign – RAFAEL BAUTISTA, DEPUTY EDITOR

As a Call Of Duty campaign enthusiast, Cold War’s campaign is one of my favorites in the franchise. The story has some interesting twists and turns (IYKYK), and I love the attention to detail in many of the levels. Speaking of levels, the game has some of the most memorable in the whole franchise. It’s just a straight-up fun campaign that’s great to play through and explore the different options and choices.

Sonny Angel I Love Rainy Day series – GELO QUIJENCIO, MULTIMEDIA ARTIST

sonny angel rainy day lifestyle picks nylon manila picks

Another one, thank you! The craze never stops (at least on my end.) The newest series of Sonny Angel (I Love Rainy Day series) is something I couldn’t resist, specifically the Axolotl. This series is so adorable since it has raincoats in jelly pastel colors.

WOOD CARVING POSTCARDS – NICA GLORIOSO, FEATURES & POP CULTURE WRITER

postcards

When I visited Switzerland, I was made aware of a souvenir that would become my new fave—a wood carving postcard! I collect regular paper postcards, but it’s the first time I’ve seen one that’s made with bamboo or other types of wood. There are ones that are laser-carved, painted, or etched, and they’re just the cutest things to bring back home.

MAX – BIANCA LAO, SR. BRAND ASSOCIATE

Due to a relapse of my FRIENDS phase, I downloaded MAX to access all ten seasons (plus the reunion) and found myself to be enjoying the app, as well as the other shows accessible on it such as The Pitt, Euphoria, and a great selection of movies.

The MAX interface is much quicker in comparison to a few apps out there, so it’s quite convenient to use. Definitely recommend it to add to your streaming ecosystem!

Pastel Pocket Inhaler – PRECY TAN, CREATIVE SERVICES COPYWRITER

I get carsick way too easily, so I always keep an essential oil inhaler with me—and the Pastel Pocket ones are my go-to. Not only do they actually help with nausea and congestion, they’re also the cutest inhalers I’ve ever owned (yes, I think I have every color). My favorites are the classic menthol for instant relief and the mango-scented one that weirdly makes traffic suck less.

Ricoh GRIIIx Urban Edition – LUNA ZABALA, MARKETING COPYWRITER

ricoh camerra lifestyle picks nylon manila picks

I wasn’t big on taking photos until I got my hands on the Ricoh GRIIIx Urban Edition.
Not to exaggerate, but I think it’s almost impossible for this camera to take a bad shot, even when in the hands of an amateur (ahem, me). The best part? It connects to your phone over Bluetooth, letting you post your photos straight to IG stories.

We May have had a blast eating, drinking, and snacking our way through this month, if you couldn’t tell. Something about a great meal shared with friends, a sweet drink in the morning before you lock in for work, or a midnight snack in the middle of a series binge-watch can just hit the right spot. Our favorite food, restaurants, beverages, and snacks for the month offer something for every tastebud, aesthetic, and craving—check out the NYLON Manila-approved May menu below!

Kei Manila – RAFAEL BAUTISTA, DEPUTY EDITOR

I might have found one of my new favorite Japanese restaurants in Manila. Kei Manila was definitely a splurge, but with its ambiance, special dining experience, and excellent dishes, I think it’s worth it. I can see why it has a reputation as a BGC hotspot.

Krispy Kreme’s Lilo & Stitch Donuts – RAFAEL BAUTISTA, DEPUTY EDITOR

I’m a sucker for limited-edition donuts, and Krispy Kreme lowkey did their big one with this. Not only do the donuts look colorful and appetizing, but I also like the fruit-centric flavors, from Strawberry Ohana to Berry Island Swirl.

Sichu Malatang – GELO QUIJENCIO, MULTIMEDIA ARTIST

As a big fan of noodles, hot pot balls, and malatang, this got my mouth watering. I love how you have an option to choose your ingredients and the customization of sauces.

STARBUCKS’ CAFFÈ MELLO DRINK – NICA GLORIOSO, FEATURES & POP CULTURE WRITER

Coffee and milk tea in one? I was skeptical at first, but Starbucks’ Caffé Mello won me over. Made with espresso and milk tea, it’s got the best parts of a latte and a milk tea drink—not overtly sweet or rich, just wonderfully smooth and reinvigorating.

SINGLE ORIGIN CRÈME BRÛLÉE LATTE – NICA GLORIOSO, FEATURES & POP CULTURE WRITER

Though a little expensive for an everyday pick-me-up, Single Origin’s Creme Brûlée Latte tastes amazingly like a creme brûlée, but doesn’t taste like you’re downing a blended dessert. It’s perfectly sweet, and a fun, fun drink.

Convenience Store Food in Japan – BIANCA LAO, SR. BRAND ASSOCIATE

@nikkiidiaries Do you like corndog?#japan #japanfood #japanesefoods #corndogs #thingsthatmakesenseinjapan ♬ original sound – Nikki Ebreo – Nikki Diaries

There isn’t a specific food I’d recommend from the convenience stores in Japan (because, let’s be honest, everything serves and devours), but the experience as a whole is something you should not miss while in Japan. Apart from the food, Japanese convenience stores also have school supplies, make-up, magazines, and some items of clothing that you wish your own country’s convenience store could live up to.

However, if I were to choose to recommend one food item from the kombini menu, it would be their corndog. It’s the perfect warm bite that offers a great balance between the sweet and salty flavors. You also receive a cool ketchup-mustard pack that’s convenient to squeeze onto the snack.

Hungry Homies Chili Cheese Lumpia – PRECY TAN, CREATIVE SERVICES COPYWRITER

I had the Chili Cheese Lumpia at an event and immediately knew it was dangerous—too good for event food. It was so crispy, cheesy, and weirdly addictive (thanks to the pickles??) that I ended up reordering it the next day. It’s rich but not nakakaumay, and honestly, I’m still thinking about that secret sauce.

EST Cafe’s Salmon Katsu Sando – LUNA ZABALA, MARKETING COPYWRITER

If you’re a fiend for anything salmon, listen up. EST Cafe’s Salmon Katsu Sando looks impressive—and that’s because it is. It doesn’t skimp on the fillings, it tastes great, and it’s super filling. I love how the sauce is the right blend of tangy and salty, while the soft shokupan bread complements the flaky and tender fish. Kinda obsessed!

NYLON Manila Picks: Style Pieces That We’re Loving (And Living In) This May 2025

Style doesn't always have to be static.

There’s no one way to define your style, and that’s exactly why we curated these favorites for May. Discover pieces that adapt to whatever mood or moment you’re in.

Related: 7 Style Staples From Small Local Brands That You’ll Want ASAP

Personal style is always a work in progress (and that’s okay). We’re constantly in the mood to reinvent, reimagine, and re-pin inspo pics to a mood board that changes as fast as our schedules. The best part is, you don’t have to commit to one aesthetic. Fashion isn’t about boxing yourself in but discovering pieces that let you explore your ever-evolving sense of self, whether you’re channeling coquette-core one day or going full clean-girl the next.

This month’s NYLON Manila Picks is a curated edit of the style staples we’ve been reaching for on repeat. From closet MVPs to statement pieces that sparked our obsessions, these finds prove that comfort and cool can exist in the same outfit. Ahead, the pieces we’re loving—and very much living in—this May.

Adidas WMNS Taekwondo Mei Ballet in Grey – Bianca Lao, Senior Brand Associate

Living in an era in where ballet core is thriving, you’d be living under a rock if you haven’t come across the brands that have reinvented their classic sneakers to fit the new ballerina aesthetic. Case in point, the Adidas Womens Taekwondo Mei Ballet shoe – a soft, stylish, and affordable pair that definitely stands out in the market. It wasn’t a shoe I was expecting to come across, but found in a curated shoe shop in Japan, and took it as a sign to cop. The shoe came with two sets of laces to add to it’s versatility, and I can’t wait to style it with my wardrobe, living out the ballet core.

APC Ninon Tote Bag in BluePonce Mercado, Creative Production Associate

Some bags are worth the hype, after all! I’ve been thinking about copping a bag donned with the iconic three letters for a long time, but I never bit the bullet until I saw this gorgeous deep blue one. A color I can call my own! Not only does it elevate an office OOTD, it’s also extremely functional. I’m surprised how it can fit everything I need on a typical work day – including a laptop, a water bottle, and my jacket! Plus, the wide shoulder straps mean it’s light to carry when I take long walks.

Casio Two-Tone Women’s Watch – Jhez Roxas,
Creative Production Associate

I’ve been really into my Casio Two-Tone Watch lately – it’s sleek, timeless, and just goes with everything. The silver and gold mix makes it so easy to pair with any outfit, whether I’m dressing up or keeping things casual. It’s got that classy feel, and the minimalist design is super clean. What I love most is how it works perfectly for everyday wear but still adds a subtle statement. It’s definitely become one of my go-to accessories.

Dr. Martens 1461 Smooth Leather Oxford Shoes – Raf Bautista, Deputy Editor

After waiting months for it to arrive, I recently received my very first pair of Dr. Marten shoes, and I can see why they’re hyped on social media. After a short breaking-in period, the shoes are easy to walk in and feel good on my feet. I also love how versatile they are with how I can rock them for a casual day out and formal events. One of my new favorite shoes in my kicks rotation I fear.

London Rag Cowboy Boots – Nica Glorioso, Features and Pop Culture Writer

I’ve wanted cowboy boots since I was a kid watching Hannah Montana, and I finally made my dreams come true! After I saw that these two-tone London Rag cowboy boots were on sale, I just had to get them. They’re such a statement piece, and pairs so wonderfully with denim, maxi skirts, and even the most simple outfits.

Muji Kapok Blend Denim Straight Pants – Luna Zabala, Marketing Copywriter

The perfect pair of pants doesn’t exist, but IMO, Muji’s Kapok Blend Denim Straight Pants come pretty close. There’s something about the vibrancy of its blue denim, its clean silhouette, and overall comfort that makes it such ubiquitous jeans. I’ve worn it while traveling, in the office, and out with friends. I wanted to gatekeep these so badly, but here you are. You’re welcome!

Solasta Italian Charm Bracelet – Gelo Quijencio, Multimedia Artist

I love how a bracelet can elevate any outfit. I used to remember as a kid having this and as an adult with adult money, customizing my italian bracelet is like a joy and a form of reminiscing my inner child while also showing your personal style.

Tapies Form Flex Sculpted Scoopneck – Precy Tan, CS Copywriter

I’ve been a fan of Tapies Daily Nipple Cover for a while now, so I was beyond excited when they dropped shapewear. As someone who isn’t into loose clothing, the new Tapies Form Flex Collection is a dream—supportive, sculpting, and still super comfy.

I love that it comes in inclusive sizes, and the black pieces are instant wardrobe staples. My favorite has to be the Sculpted Scoopneck: it hugs in all the right places, looks great worn alone or layered, and gives that smooth, put-together feel without ever feeling too tight.

The Paper Bunny Midi Arc in Wave Blue – Bianca Lao, Senior Brand Associate

Yes. I am well aware of how late I am to the Paper Bunny Midi Arc craze, besties. But, better late than never right?

While on the search for a new work bag, I went back on the site of Paper Bunny (a brand in which I already own a few bags from, such as the Puffer Shopper and the Puffer Carryall) in search of a new everyday bag that can serve function and style, hence, the Midi Arc in Wave Blue.

It was love at first sight with this bag because of its style, functionality, and the color it came in. It became a perfect pop of color to any outfit and stood out in a way it was my own. They have a wide range of colors and styles to choose from, so there’s something for everyone. Just in case you haven’t hopped on the train yet, let me budol you and make you take this as your sign to grab the bag now.

It’s giving glow-up szn, and we’re not mad about it. May came and went in the blink of a mascara wand—one moment we were setting intentions, the next we were powering through stacked schedules. Still, through all the calendar chaos, one thing stayed top of mind: looking your best to feel your best. Whether it’s the swipe of a cream blush before work or a leave-in mist that saves you between commutes, beauty has been our small way to reclaim softness even when life’s anything but.

That’s exactly why this month’s NYLON Manila Picks are dedicated to the products that had us glowing through the grind. It’s an edited lineup of holy grails and new obsessions—each one tried, tested, and vouched for by the team. These are the hardworking beauty buys that earned a permanent spot in our arsenal, from base products to strands that actually behave. Ahead, discover the formulas worth your coin and your counter space.

AXE Black Vanilla Premium Deodorant Body Spray – Raf Bautista, Deputy Editor

Call me basic but I’m a fan of vanilla scents, so I was happy that AXE made their own Vanilla scented deodorant body spray. Its sweet and fruity smell is noticeable but without being overwhelming and gives a “fresh from the shower” feel. I would say it does the job similar to my other body sprays but with a sweet kick to it, which I don’t mind.

CANMAKE Powder Cheeks – Gelo Quijencio, Multimedia Artist

Bianca, NYLON Manila’s Sr. Brand Associate, gave us CANMAKE blushes when she came back from her trip to Japan. As a fan of blush and anything glittery, I truly love. It is perfect for beginners since it’s buildable and shear, so it’s perfect for everyday.

House of Hur Moist Ampoule Blusher – Bianca Lao, Senior Brand Associate

Yes, I fell for another TikTok budol—but honestly, no regrets. If you think your blush collection is already complete (I thought so too), think again when you meet the House of Hur Moist Ampoule Blusher.

This liquid blush delivers rich pigment with a radiant, dewy finish that flatters every skin tone. The shade range is impressively inclusive, so there’s truly something for everyone. What makes it even more irresistible? It’s not just makeup—it’s infused with skincare ingredients, giving your skin a healthy glow while adding that perfect flush of color.

A true multitasker that earns its place in any makeup routine.

Kikumasamune Brightening Moist Lotion – Luna Zabala, Marketing Copywriter

If you have an oily face and hate the feeling of sticky lotion (especially in this humidity), Kikumasamune’s Brightening Moist Lotion is a godsend. It’s more watery than creamy, but don’t let that fool you — it does a great job of keeping your skin hydrated, all while staying lightweight. With a blend of three types of vitamins and sake, it doesn’t skimp on the brightening, either.

NYX Fat Oil Lip Drip – Precy Tan, CS Copywriter

Nica, NYLON Manila’s Features and Pop Culture writer, recently came back from a trip and surprised me with the NYX Fat Oil Lip Drip—and honestly, it’s become a fave. Compared to my other lip oils, this one is the lightest, so it never feels like I’ve eaten something greasy after application.

In the shade Inside Scoop (you know I’m all about those brown tones), it moisturizes my lips while doubling as a glossy finish. Now, it’s officially part of my everyday rotation, acting as both my go-to gloss and lip oil.

Revlon Rum Raisin – Nica Glorioso, Features and Pop Culture Writer

I’ve been on the hunt for the OG Revlon Rum Raisin lipstick for about a year now, and I finally found it. It’s brighter on my skin tone, not as brown as presented online, but it’s a great balance between warm and cool, bright and deep, and bold and understated. There’s a reason why it’s become a classic!

SAAN-SAAN No. 36 MINDORO COAST Scented Candle –
Ponce Mercado – Creative Production Associate

Sorry Taylor, it’s not even August yet but I’m already smelling the salt air. The best scents create visceral mental pictures and take you somewhere else, something that boutique home fragrance brand SAAN-SAAN does best.

Taking you direct to the titular Mindoro Coast, it’s filled with notes you wouldn’t think go together – sea salt, orange, vanilla, and wait – is that coconut? I can’t wait for my room to smell like a warm provincial night I’d never forget – every night.

TSUBAKI Premium Moist & Repair Shampoo – Precy Tan, CS Copywriter

I first tried the TSUBAKI Premium Moist & Repair Shampoo and Conditioner in a sachet during a recent trip, and it immediately won me over. As someone with dry, damaged hair, I was surprised that this shampoo and conditioner combo actually kept my hair moisturized even after a full day at the beach. Unlike other products that leave my strands feeling dry or brittle, this one truly delivers on its promise. I never bought a full-size shampoo this fast—but TSUBAKI earned a permanent spot on my shelf.

NYLON Manila Picks: The Media We Lowkey Obsessed Over This May 2025

line
We're watching and listening.

From KATSEYE’s newest bop to the latest Final Destination movie, these are the entertainment options we loved in May.

Related: NYLON Manila Picks: The Media Of April 2025 That Had Us Yapping Non-Stop

The thing about watching a new movie, checking out a series, listening to a new artist, or pressing play on a song is that you never know what you’re gonna get until you actually experience it. And for this month’s selection of media picks, they were experiences we’d gladly repeat again and again. From bops that were in constant reply to the movies that we thought about long after the credits rolled, scroll down for the media and entertainment that topped our lists in May.

FINAL DESTINATION BLOODLINES – RAF BAUTISTA, DEPUTY EDITOR

Even though I’m a horror movie fan, I’ve only seen one Final Destination movie in full as it’s a franchise I’m not particularly into (that’s The Final Destination, which I’ve come to learn is arguably the worst in the series, in case you were curious). But after watching Final Destination Bloodlines, I think I need to binge-watch the rest of the movies. The film is just a gory good time that doesn’t hold back on its kills and also delivers a competent story on family and survival. That opening scene on the tower alone is worth the price of admission IMO.

ROUND TABLE GAME SHOW – RAF BAUTISTA, DEPUTY EDITOR

@roundtablegame One of our favorite moments from Season 2 😂 @Jordan Johnson @THEE LITTLE PERSON®️ ♬ original sound – Round Table Game Show

ICYDK, the Round Table Game Show is an online show where a group of comedians come together and tell jokes. The twist? If they laugh, they’re out of the game. It’s a simple premise but delivers on the laughs and good times. Some of the jokes are straight-up nasty, and I’ll never skip whenever a clip of the show pops up on my feed.

CUP OF JOE’S SILAKBO ALBUM – BIANCA LAO, SR. BRAND ASSOCIATE

With Multo taking over our FYPs, where you’ve most likely seen an edit of the song with your faves (I’m honestly surprised with the variety of edits so far), it’s only right to shine a spotlight on the album it’s with, too!

While I’m a little late in recommending it as a NYLON Manila pick as the album was released in January, it’s definitely worth mentioning in case you have not come across it yet. As a fan of COJ since 2023, it’s nice to see how much the group has grown and achieved success through their music (that heals). Silakbo is the perfect representation of the group’s dynamic sound and storytelling.

My favorites of the album are Multo (duh), Silakbo, and Hinga. Instant healing, so give it a stream! 🙂

RISK BY GRACIE ABRAMS – NICA GLORIOSO, FEATURES AND POP CULTURE WRITER

My friend had Risk by Gracie Abrams on repeat during our hangouts and calls the past month, and it has quickly made its way first into my favorites playlist, then my On Repeat playlist. It’s just such a fun, cathartic song that captures the thrill (and insanity) of feeling something new.

SHOOT BY NO NA – GELO QUIJENCIO, MULTIMEDIA ARTIST

This new girl group from 88rising popped on my radar, and it did not disappoint. Their songs really got me on the groove, but what hooked me to know them more was their single shoot. It’s the definition of ‘written with a glitter gel pen’ as it is a perfect summer song and easy on the ears.

THE IRON GIANT – PRECY TAN, CREATIVE SERVICES COPYWRITER

I watched The Iron Giant because a friend wouldn’t stop recommending it—and I honestly don’t know why it took me so long. It’s such a roller coaster of emotions: funny, heartwarming, and lowkey devastating in the best way. There’s also something magical about small-town stories, especially when they come with a giant robot that makes you cry.

GNARLY BY KATSEYE – LUNA ZABALA, MARKETING COPYWRITER

In all honesty, I was a Gnarly hater (for all of one day). But once I got over myself, I realized the Kats were right — everything is gnarly. This song? Gnarly. Metro Manila traffic? Gnarly. Not taking things too seriously? Gnarly. Call me a convert, but it’s just too catchy to skip and too fun to hate!

Baus Rufo

Living Your Best Young Working Adult Life With Baus Rufo

line
We love a workplace mentor.

In an era that can be very complicated, Baus Rufo advises taking these early years with a sense of eagerness as a period of learning and growth.

Related: Writer And Educator Isa Garcia Looks To The Future With Hope

In a time when social media might make it seem cooler to pursue literally any career over finishing your education, graduating college is a milestone worth commemorating. You spent four or more years of your life on campus hustling for that degree, and you deserve to celebrate. But with graduation also comes a reality that is slowly but surely coming on what to do next. For many, that means finding a job and starting their career. But where exactly do you start?

IN MY WORKING ERA

Hearing stories from classmates as early as when you’re still in college of them going to job interviews or even already having job offers before graduation might make you feel that you’re falling behind. Finding a job is already as hard as it is, but seeing your peers seemingly be one or two steps ahead of you brings out an unhealthy kind of pressure to catch up. But rushing to apply to any job you see online or saying yes to the first job offer is not the way to go.

It’s in this flurry as you start a new chapter of your life where you give yourself the space and grace to reflect on your next move or reassess your goals. What you lack in experience, you more than make up for it in potential. Life is not a competition, and as cliche as it sounds, you will find what is meant for you out there. It’s a fact Baus Rufo can attest to.

BAUS RUFO 1

These days, you may know Baus as a comedian, host, and content creator. But years ago, he was an employee grinding in the professional world. Baus was right in the thick of it as part of the workforce and went through the same ups and downs that many young graduates will soon encounter. But it’s in these moments where Baus learned and hustled, which led him to shift career paths and become the icon we know him as today.

It’s these lessons and experiences he’s sharing with the next generation, such as when he served as one of our speakers at the DLS-CSB stop of the NYLON Manila Career Fair 2025. “I think the way I would put it is, your first few months at the job, you are still getting an education. The education extends beyond the classroom. Because this time, you get an education from the real world,” he tells NYLON Manila. Everyone has their own career journey, and your choices will shape that path, so make the most of it, bestie.

Read our full interview with Baus below as he opens up about adapting to a work environment, dealing with the pressures of the first job, and more.

In your opinion, what do you think is the biggest misconception that fresh graduates have about working?

The biggest misconception is that they land their dream job right away. I think only because they get their first choice right away or the people graduating need to know what’s more important is to be in the industry you want to be in. Try to really analyze the skills and the experience needed for the dream job. And try to target other roles or jobs that will still help you kind of get those skills so that the dream job that you want will be medium-term.

Some fresh graduates think that it’s better to get a job soon after graduation while others would prefer a lengthy break to rest before going into the job hunt. Where do you fall in that debate?

I think the rest is a matter of like really trying to find out what that rest is for. I’m all for finding your center, being at the right headspace, and also celebrating that you just finished like three to four years in college. I’m all for that and that requires some time but I think ultimately they have to recognize that the job market only becomes hyper-competitive by the day. So there also needs to be some urgency.

So I’m okay with resting, but I think ultimately it must align with your other medium-term to long-term goals. If you have a salary goal, if the employer, the role that you want, already needs you ASAP, let’s face the truth, especially when you just graduated, you’re still very much dispensable. So if you cannot start on the date that a company probably wants you to start and you want to take a rest first, you might want to reassess that. So I’m okay for resting, but it should be to really better prepare you for the job that you’re going for.

BAUS RUFO 2

When fresh graduates finally start working, they can sometimes experience a form of culture shock, especially in the shift from a college environment to a professional setting. What advice would you give to fresh graduates on how they could adapt themselves to the work environment?

I think the way I would put it is, your first few months at the job, you are still getting an education. The education extends beyond the classroom. Because this time, you get an education from the real world. And I think as much as we learn everything in the classroom or as textbook concepts, ultimately, nothing really beats the real thing in terms of how you get that education.

I kind of want students to understand that the companies they apply for were already in existence way before they were born. So they already have set values, systems, processes in terms of how they achieve productivity, efficiency, and ultimately strong collaboration. So there needs to be some humility first that they don’t know it all yet and that they still have to prove to the organization that they can gel or they can fit or they can rise to the challenge of being a part of that organization.

In relation to that, there’s also the case of dealing co-workers who often are older and have more experience than you. How could Gen Z new to the workforce better interact with their co-workers?

I think listening is very important. I think active listening is very important. And they have to realize that they are in constant negotiation with the many interactions that they do. There are deadlines to meet, there are adjustments to be made in terms of how they relate to other people.

I think it’s to take it a day at a time because your co-workers, whether you like it or not, you’re going to have to build, at the very least, a working relationship with them. So try to get to know their quirks. Try to know what motivates them so that it all dovetails to the goal of producing great, compelling work. Understand that people come from different backgrounds, people have different motivations as to why they come to work or why they work. So the sooner or the better you understand that, the better of a team player and I think the more human you can be in strengthening these work relationships.

One hurdle that people in their first jobs deal with is letting the pressure get to them. In their desire to do well in their first job, they end up becoming too hard on themselves. What would you say to fresh graduates on how they could deal with the pressure and heavy burden to prove themselves?

I think taking things too seriously is a signal of you caring for the job and how much it means to you so I don’t want to invalidate that or really say it’s wrong. But I think with that what can exist is also at the end of the day, you are also measured on productivity. You are also measured on being efficient. So I’m all for processing feelings and emotions, but the sooner you can get to a regimen that lets you process that efficiently, I think the more you can surprise yourself and really find new strengths.

Some people say that Gen Z is too ambitious in the workforce. Do you think that’s the case or do you have a different take on it?

Oh, I think that’s the case and I think that’s great. I personally love that. I think the more infectious their positive ambition and optimism are, I think the better. I think companies, corporations, leadership teams also have a lot to benefit from the very dynamic and exciting energy of the incoming Gen Z workforce. And ultimately, that is good for a company because what the company wants is to be able to adapt to the times and to be able to last. And what the younger generation has to offer now and listening to them is very much critical to how they are going to adapt in the medium term.

I don’t want the Gen Zs to enter the workforce that are just cynical or medyo jaded. Be fun, be happy, be infectious. The key there is really finding the right organization that values that and an organization that ultimately knows how that is a very important ingredient for the business.

BAUS RUFO 4

What would you suggest or advise college students on what they could do already while they’re still in school to help prepare them for the corporate world?

I think one thing that is very important in the corporate world is really how you are as a team player, meaning how you are able to conduct yourself and contribute to the brainstorming sessions and alignment meetings. So the more you expose yourself to collaborations kahit you’re still in school, you are still developing necessary skills that you get to take with you in the workplace.

When you enter the workplace, you are always expected to be able to justify an idea or sell an idea. These are things that you can practice in the classroom when you present an idea to a groupmate or in front of the class. So there are things that you can sort of workshop or pilot already in terms of the different soft skills that will really determine a lot of your success when you enter the workforce.

In your opinion, what do you think are the green flags that fresh graduates should watch out for when they start the job hunt?

I think a company that values employee morale a lot. And I think how you’re able to determine how they value that is really the different programs that they have. You can ask this during the job interview. I think another green flag is if there is a company that has a very systematic way of doing mentoring or coaching sessions.

When I entered the workforce 10-12 years ago, my alignment meeting with my boss in terms of what my plan is for my career and how I want to grow, this conversation would really only happen parang once a year. But now, companies have bi-weekly or monthly one-on-ones between an employee and their direct manager. Find out how dedicated they are in supporting your individual growth and how determined they are in aligning your individual growth with the company’s growth.

Filipino G-DRAGON Fans Share Their Experience Attending His Bulacan Concert

line
GD, you've done it again.

We chatted with a couple of fans who opened up about seeing the K-pop legend live, and they still aren’t over it (same, TBH).

It may have already been two weeks since G-DRAGON’s historic concert at the Philippine Arena last May 17, but we’re still not over it. As his first concert in the country since his Act III: MOTTE world tour at the Araneta Coliseum in 2017, many fans made the most of the moment to see him live and watch the K-pop icon do what he does best. That was very much on the agenda for two GD fans who we spoke to recently as they shared their experience at the concert. The PCD may be slowly fading, but these Gen Z fans still hold their night at Übermensch with the kind of fondness to last well past the month.

MEETING POP ROYALTY

The beauty of concerts is that they can bring together both new and longtime fans. That was the case for the two fans we chatted with. For Chesca, she started being a fan of his at the start of the year and quickly became enamored. “I like his artistry — he’s an experimental artist. I like that when I listen to his music, I can see how K-pop now was inspired by him. He was truly an icon of his time and a pioneer to how K-pop has grown.” she shares.

Gab, meanwhile, is a longtime fan who has been into K-pop since 2013. Arguably at the height of the popularity of 2nd generation K-pop, Gab soon found her way to BIGBANG.

“I could still vividly remember the first video I watched that got me hooked all together. It was a school morning while I was waiting for my school service to arrive when I took my mom’s iPad mini and saw on the screen BIGBANG’s Haru-Haru on pause. The moment I hit play, the soulful catchy music and narrative-driven music video opened my eyes and ears beyond even understanding a foreign language.” In a story many K-pop fans can relate to, that one video led Gab down a BIGBANG rabbit hole that she happily hasn’t left since.

G-DRAGON 1

Naturally, when G-DRAGON announced that he was coming to Manila for his latest world tour, Chesca and Gab knew they needed to be there.

“When he said it was in the Philippine Arena, I just knew I had to be there. It was a necessity,” recalls Chesca. “It was a no-brainer. I knew I had to watch it and see him live. I knew that it was not going to be any ordinary concert. It was going to be a nostalgic party and a whole masterpiece altogether–the creative stage designs and massive production that G-DRAGON and BIGBANG are known for, his crazy outfits, and charismatic adlibs that will get any crowd jumping and screaming at the top of their lungs. All of it. I knew I had to see it all live,” adds Gab.

With tickets secured, Chesca and Gab were one of the tens of thousands of Filipino fans who made their way to the Philippine Arena for a night to remember.

A NIGHT AT ÜBERMENSCH

G-DRAGON has built a reputation as one of K-pop’s trailblazers. When it comes to music, style, and performance, GD’s influence is felt to this day. And experiencing all that straight from the king himself? Chesca and Gab were living their best lives. “Honestly, no words – pure gaggery,” says Chesca, adding that the whole experience was surreal. Oh, and it was also Chesca’s first K-pop concert ever, which lowkey is a brag we’d happily flex.

Putting her stanning into words, Gab articulated her experience with admiration and respect for one of her faves. “It was exactly what every VIP (BIGBANG’s fandom name) and FAM (G-DRAGON’s fandom name) expected. The whole 3-hour concert felt like less than an hour. It was a wave of nostalgia to finally be jumping to CROOKED, WHO YOU?, Heartbreaker, and crying to Untitled, 2014 live. And seeing how much he has never changed as he performed his new album live.”

G-DRAGON CONCERT

As for what they loved most about the concert, Chesca turned her attention to those moments with the crowd that stuck with her. “G-DRAGON made an effort to have conversations with his fans, feeling the atmosphere in the arena. He’s also a Filipino king, who had several Tagalog phrases up his sleeves. You knew he wanted to make the experience a memorable one and that it meant a lot to him, too.”

Gab, meanwhile, had a whole list ready that touched upon the night’s highlights. “I think the Philippine Arena crowd would agree when I say: 1. The CROOKED Frenzy, 2. His tear-jerking last song Untitled, 2014, and 3. The cinematic video of him explaining what Ubermensch meant to him—him finally hitting pause on his crazy life, slowing down and reflecting, having more time to enjoy time with his friends, and being more excited to create more.”

Seeing one of the best to ever do it live is a treat for any K-pop fan, and much so for Chesca who got to watch one of the genre’s visionaries as her first K-pop concert. As a newer fan, the whole experience was a 101 on why GD was, is, and will continue to be that K-pop idol.

G-DRAGON 3

“His stage presence is undeniable,” she gushes. “It was my first time seeing him live, his stage presence is something that you cannot capture fully through videos. Seeing firsthand how he interacted with his fans and dancers – there’s so much love that goes into his artistry and his craft, which is something I deeply appreciate about any artist I see live. Seeing him live is an experience I would come back to time and time again.”

The moment hits harder for longtime BIGBANG stan Gab. Beyond all the cool ‘fits, epic songs, and undeniable aura, it’s in the quieter moments that really spoke to her. “It was his honesty and his raw emotions that came with time,” she shares. “I mean every fan would know that he probably has never performed a templated boring performance, either as a solo artist or as part of BIGBANG. But I think I saw it the most while he was performing Untitled, 2014 live. Him grabbing tightly his beret to his stomach as he tries to hit the high notes of his song. One would really see on screen how much it’s not as effortless as it used to be for him, but it’s the wanting, his desperation, and the deep breaths he took in between, that gave more emotion and life to a song that was created years ago.”

WHEN CONCERTS BECOME MEMORIES

Regardless of when they got in the fandom, it’s lowkey a good time to be not just a G-DRAGON fan, but a BIGBANG fan in general. GD, TAEYANG, and DAESUNG have been active in the past year with new music and concert tours while BIGBANG made their long-awaited return to the stage at MAMA 2024 and dropped a couple of new tracks. And as G-DRAGON teased during his Bulacan concert, there’s a good chance we might get a BIGBANG anniversary concert tour in 2026.

“It’s an exciting experience, knowing that they haven’t been active for so long and that they’re doing stuff together now,” says Chesca in a sentiment shared by many fans. “It’s very exciting to also hear the information from G-DRAGON that the group will be together for the 20th anniversary. It’s definitely something worth looking forward to and to start manifesting to secure tickets.” Adds Gab, “As any pop-culture content would say, I healed my inner child.”

GDRAGON 4

The flurry of new activity from G-DRAGON, the members, and the group as a whole means a lot to Gab in particular as her relationship with BIGBANG, and the wider YG Family in general is one that stretches over a decade. These aren’t just musicians she listens to, but artists who had an impact on who she is today.

“I poured 4 years of my life doing voice lessons, then another 4 [years] practicing dance, then having the urge to want to know how things work backstage and joined my university’s broadcasting and production organization. I can say that how these bands and people do music and how they are marketed in the creative aspect, molded the kind of personal taste I have and the kind of creative I am now.”

We don’t know when G-DRAGON will come back to Manila (hopefully it won’t be another eight years), but Chesca and Gab are resting easy knowing they got to witness the intricate production, the one-of-a-kind artistry, the iconic hits (including the few BIGBANG songs he sang following the chants from the crowd), and trendsetting style.

GDRAON CONCERT MANILA

There’s a lot that can be said about it all, but these fans keep it simple. “Thank you so much for working so hard. Honestly, it’s better that your fans see you smile more now, and that we’re happy that you’re happy. Keep being happy. Keep on doing what you love doing,” imparts Chesca. “I would simply say ‘thank you’, ‘I can’t wait to see what he will create next’, and ‘see you next year,’” concludes Gab.

Don’t Know Where To Start In Your First Job Hunt? We Got You Covered

line
"Your first job won’t define you—but how you show up will."

From crafting a strong resume to honing the attitude that will get you hired, we get the tea straight from a seasoned recruiter.

Related: Here’s How To Not Let First Job Jitters Get The Better Of You

No, it’s not just you. Once you graduate college and finally have to look for a job, it feels like you’re expected to know everything on day one. What should I put on my resume? Is this job right for me? What should I say during my job interview? All these questions and more swirl around your head as the pressure of beginning your career takes its toll.

We’ve been there too and know the struggle just to even start is real. But as daunting as it is, there are ways to make it through the system without having to sacrifice your personal goals and fulfillment. And the best part? It comes straight from a professional whose very job is to screen, vet, and potentially hire applicants.

JOB HUNT 101

To some, the job hunt might entail whipping up a resume, going on sites like LinkedIn and Job Street, hitting send on any job opening that looks remotely interesting, and waiting for an email back as you leave your fate to the occupation gods. But Yrene Paguio, an HR/OD executive, systems engineer, digital CEO, business & life coach, and one of our speakers at the DLS-CSB stop of the NYLON Manila Career Fair 2025, sees it differently.

To her, you’re very much an active participant in starting the first chapter of your professional career. You actually have agency in your career, even if it doesn’t feel like it sometimes. “It’s not just about being ‘chosen’—it’s also about choosing the right fit for you. You have power in the process, too,” she tells NYLON Manila.

YRENE PAGUIO 1

Before you even start sending resumes and filling out application forms, it’s important that you first know what you want. It doesn’t have to be specific, but developing that general sense of what you want for your career and yourself can make things a lot easier. “[J]ob hunting is also about being intentional—understanding what you want and aligning your values with a company’s. It’s not about applying everywhere; it’s about applying wisely.”

Another tip from Yrene? Don’t sweat your work experience or lack thereof. At this stage of your life, it’s understandable if your resume isn’t pages long (and it shouldn’t be regardless). You just graduated college, bestie. But what you can show to recruiters instead is your potential, attitude, and life experiences. Let it speak for itself. “They’re not looking for perfection, they’re looking for potential. Prepare stories, not scripts, and speak from the heart. Your values, attitude, and self-awareness matter,” Yrene advises.

Read the rest of the interview below as Yrene shares her tips on making a strong resume, why you shouldn’t apply to every job you see online, and more.

What do you think fresh graduates get most wrong about the job hunt?

Many think it’s just about sending out resumes and waiting. But job hunting is also about being intentional—understanding what you want and aligning your values with a company’s. It’s not about applying everywhere; it’s about applying wisely. Take time to reflect, prepare, and research. Treat it like you’re courting your future—you want a match, not just a slot.

How do students who don’t have a lot of experience make a resume?

Focus on your transferable skills—leadership, teamwork, time management. Highlight school projects, volunteer work, and org roles that show character and initiative. Use action words and measurable outcomes. Remember, your potential matters as much as experience. Make your personality and eagerness shine through.

For you, which do you put more priority on as a recruiter: org experience or internship experience? Or does it even matter?

What matters most is what you learned and how you grew. Internship or org work—both show responsibility and initiative when done with heart. I look at how you reflect on those experiences. It’s not where you’ve been, it’s what you did and how you carry those lessons now. That’s what tells me you’re ready.

Given that HR only gives a short amount of time to skim through resumes, what are the top three things you think applicants need to prioritize in their resumes to get noticed by recruiters?

Your CV is your packaging, and your job interview is your product demo—so make that packaging count. First, keep the layout clean and easy to read—use consistent formatting and avoid clutter. Second, tailor your content to the role you’re applying for—highlight your most relevant experiences, even if they’re from school or volunteer work. Third, quantify your achievements where possible; numbers catch the eye and show impact.

Start with a clear, sincere summary that shows who you are and what you’re looking for. Use active language like “led,” “created,” or “organized.” Double-check grammar and spelling—small errors can send a big message. Don’t overload with buzzwords; let your real experiences speak. Keep it to one page if you’re just starting out. And remember, this document is your foot in the door, so let it reflect your best self—thoughtful, capable, and ready.

YRENE PAGUIO 2

What advice would you give to applicants who are feeling nervous for their job interview?

Take a deep breath and remind yourself—this is just a conversation. They’re not looking for perfection, they’re looking for potential. Prepare stories, not scripts, and speak from the heart. Your values, attitude, and self-awareness matter. Be kind to yourself—you’re learning, and that’s powerful.

What’s a question that an applicant can ask you during a job interview that would impress you?

I love when someone asks, “What does success look like in this role after 6 months or a year?” It shows vision, commitment, and a growth mindset. It tells me you’re not just here to get the job, but to do it well. That’s gold to a recruiter. It makes us smile inside.

Salary negotiation is seen as one of the trickier parts for fresh graduates. What advice would you give to young professionals on how they can navigate that?

For fresh graduates, your first priority shouldn’t be negotiating your salary—it should be building your value. Focus on learning as much as you can, sharpening your skills, and gaining real-world experience. Your first job is your training ground, not just a paycheck. Rather than asking “How much will I earn?”, ask “How much will I grow here?”

That said, it’s still okay to understand the salary range for the role and ask respectfully if there’s room for growth later. Just don’t let money be your main driver at this stage. Employers remember eagerness and humility. Long-term success comes from showing that you’re worth more, not from demanding more too soon. Be a sponge, not a spotlight. When you’ve proven your worth, the right opportunities—and compensation—will follow.

Some Gen Z are known to be job hoppers, spending 6 months to a year or so in one job before resigning and moving on to the next job as they put less emphasis on company loyalty. From the HR/recruitment side, what’s your take on this?

I understand the desire to grow and explore—it’s valid. But depth matters, too. Give yourself time to learn, make mistakes, and build something. Growth isn’t always in the next job; sometimes it’s in staying and stretching. Don’t chase titles—chase purpose and progress.

YRENE PAGUIO 3

People say that you should only apply to jobs that align with your degree or what you took up in college. Do you agree with that?

Not at all. Your degree is a foundation, not a fence. The world is big, and your passions might lead you elsewhere—and that’s okay. What matters is your willingness to learn and do the work. Trust where your curiosity and commitment meet.

What do you wish more fresh graduates knew about applying for a job?

It’s not just about being “chosen”—it’s also about choosing the right fit for you. You have power in the process, too. Stay authentic, stay curious. Don’t rush into the first yes—look for where you can grow and be valued. And remember: your first job won’t define you—but how you show up will.
