When you talk about the top K-pop groups right now, the conversation isn’t complete without including SEVENTEEN. Ever since their debut in 2015, this 13-member boy group has been amazing millions of their fans around the world. Their sales and success prove that they are one of the leaders in the game. But with the group gaining new fans every day, there are certain aspects of the group that new CARATs or causal listeners may not know of. Here are seven facts that you may not know about SEVENTEEN.

SEVENTEEN HAD A PRE-DEBUT SHOW THAT LASTED TWO YEARS

SEVENTEEN Confirmed To Make Fall Comeback | Soompi

Unlike most K-pop groups, SEVENTEEN was introduced to the public way before their official debut. In 2013, the show Seventeen TV premiered on the online platform UStream, which chronicled their time as trainees. The first season featured Mingyu, Jun, Seungkwan, Woozi, Wonwoo, Hoshi, Vernon, Dino, DK, Mingming, and Samuel. At first, their names were not known, so they were called by nicknames according to something they carried. The show lasted for five seasons until 2015. Eventually, S. Coups, Joshua, Jeonghan, and THE8 all joined the line-up.

SEVENTEEN COULD HAVE DEBUTED WITH SEVENTEEN MEMBERS

pannatic on Twitter: "Seventeen's childhood and pre-debut pictures gain K-Netz attention! -- https://t.co/d3zr2CbToU #Seventeen… "

Despite what the name may suggest, SEVENTEEN has 13 members. The name comes from the number of members plus the three units and how they are one team. But there was a time that SEVENTEEN could have actually debuted with its namesake. In Seventeen TV, viewers were introduced to four trainees who eventually left Pledis.

The former member most people may know is Samuel. He was the youngest of the team but he left for personal reasons. Later on, though, he debuted in a quickly disbanded hip-hop duo called 1Punch. He also participated in Produce 101, but didn’t make it to the final lineup. In 2017, Samuel debuted as a solo artist and continues to this day. Another member is Dongjin who left Pledis to focus on his academics. But not much is known about him.

Doyoon was one of the oldest members of the group and was seen as the co-parent/leader of SEVENTEEN along with S.Coups. But he left the company to pursue an acting career, which he said he was more passionate about. And finally, there’s Mingming from China. He left Pledis for personal reasons, but the pull of idol life was still strong that he competed in the survival show, Mixnine. However, he failed to make it to the final line-up as he placed tenth. Later on, he competed in Youth With You in China where he managed to make it to the final line-up and debut in a group called Unnie.

IT TOOK A WHILE FOR THEM TO ACHIEVE MAINSTREAM SUCCESS

These days, whenever SEVENTEEN releases a new album or song, it usually becomes a best-seller. But their success wasn’t instant. It took over a year since their debut to get their first music show win with Pretty U. 2017 proved to be a breakthrough year for the group as they started receiving international recognition with the iconic Don’t Wanna Cry as well as being featured on international magazines and publications like NYLON Korea. SEVENTEEN has since climbed higher and higher ever since.

SOME OF THE MEMBERS TRIED FILIPINO FOOD

Given how SEVENTEEN are global stars, their travels have taken them to many countries around the world. And one of those countries was the Philippines. During one of their trips here, the vocal team; Jeonghan, Joshua, Woozi, DK, and Seungkwan, were filmed trying Filipino food. They ate sinigang, gising gising, sisig, binagoongan, beef mechado and based on their reactions, they seemed to like it. Maybe next time, all the members could try it together.

SEVENTEEN HAS A SUB-GROUP

bss seventeen

While SEVENTEEN does have three units for performance, hip-hop, and vocals, three of the members have actually debuted under a sub-group. Seungkwan, DK, and Hoshi came together to form BSS, which stands for BooSeokSoon, a common nickname for the three of them. In 2018, they released the song Just do it, which remains their only song as of this writing.

THEY ENJOY A CLOSE FRIENDSHIP WITH MONSTA X

It’s always nice to see idols have friendships with other idols. And SEVENTEEN’s friendship with MONSTA X is something special. While at first glance the two groups may seem different, they actually have a few things in common. First, they both debuted in the same year. They also appeared in shows before their official debut. Their friendship started in earnest when the then-rookie groups did a collab at MAMA 2015. Ever since then, members from both groups have kept their friendships to this day.

MINGYU’S ACTING DEBUT WAS IN A THAI DRAMA

It was only a matter of time before the members of SEVENTEEN started acting and appearing in movies and shows. Jun has an upcoming C-Drama called Exclusive Fairy Tale where’s he’s set to play the lead male role. But did you know that Mingyu’s acting debut was in a Thai Drama? Yes, you read that right. His first ever acting role was in the show Luang-ta Maha-chon. In 2017, he appeared in two episodes where he played himself. The plot revolved around him getting lost in Thailand where he is mistaken as just a lost tourist by the series’ protagonists. It’s defiantly an interesting role is a unique watch for any CARAT.

THEY ARE LAZADA’S FIRST REGIONAL HAPPINESS AMBASSADORS

K-pop group SEVENTEEN joins the Lazada family • l!fe • The Philippine Star

SEVENTEEN’s success and name recognition mean that the group is an in-demand ambassador and face for brands both in Korea and abroad, magazines, and publications. One of their recent sponsorships happened back in October last year when the group was named the newest face of Lazada SEA. Technically, their official title is Lazada Happiness Ambassadors and along with the announcement was the release of a fun video featuring the boys dancing and promoting the 11.11 Big Sale. Since then, the group has worked with other global brands like Apple.

MARGIELYN DIDAL new balance

More Than All The Hype, Margielyn Didal Reminds Us That Puso Will Always Win

line
“Skateboarding is life but rice is lifer.”

Following her historic run of skateboarding at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Margielyn Didal and her cheerful demeanor continues to charm, this time with the release of her fresh New Balance signature colorway, the NB Numeric 272 inspired by one of Cebu’s best, the puso.

“As a kid that was mostly lambasted for my interest in skateboarding, I never imagined it would be part of the Olympic Games. It’s surreal to now be in Tokyo bearing witness to this milestone in the most unprecedented circumstances,” muses Tony Hawk on Instagram during the debut of the sport at the summer games. “A whole new generation will get to experience skateboarding with genuine public support and meaningful opportunity. I predict it will be one of the highlights from all the Olympic Games coverage this year. And I’m here for it.” Casual in its written rumination, his words proved prophetic because after the inaugural run, skateboarding, as well as of its assemblage of athletes were one of the runaway stars of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics—Margielyn Didal included, who proudly repped the Philippines all the way down to the New Balance Numeric 379 kicks on her feet.

From the first ever gold medals awarded and most noteworthy, a strong showing from the female contingent, with teenaged girls sweeping the street event, the swell of female empowerment in the typically male-dominated sport was cause to celebrate. Sure, there was certainly a lot to talk about and take in from the heat of the meet, but emerging as a sunny spot in the qualifying and final rounds was none other than our very own skateboarding champ and pride, Margielyn Didal.

Photobombs aside, everyone was deeply charmed by the pride of Cebu, who endeared herself to the Olympic community and audience with her cheerful disposition, and yes, her candor, too. But above it all, despite the inevitable nature of the competition, it was the heart of Margielyn Didal that really made her a winner.

The Charm Of Margielyn Didal

Together with the pool of women athletes pulling away from the shadows of men, Margielyn Didal has carved out even more history at the Tokyo Olympics, this time for the Philippines. Now, while she may have ended her run without a medal on her neck, our lone female bet in the sport charmed audiences all over the world, proving that even in apparent defeat, the Filipino spirit still proves triumphant. Besides, even if we are abiding by technicalities, Margielyn Didal scored big, qualifying for the finals with her tricks and tenacity where she landed 7th overall. Not too shabby by a long shot.

Already highly-respected, and bemedalled, the unapologetically real Filipino athlete wowed the sea of supporters with her sunny disposition and unfiltered candor, reaching far and wide on social media, which included the official Twitter account of the Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympics. “This will be known as the ‘Margielyn Didal seal of approval,’” it wrote, followed by two Filipino flag emojis.

Earlier in the day, Tony Hawk himself posted an Instagram Story featuring Margielyn Didalyn sticking a landing during one her runs at the Tokyo Olympics. However, this wasn’t the first time the two would interface, because days prior, the legend and the rising star crossed paths, prompting for a photo opportunity. “This guy asked me to take a photo with him and I let him because he looks like Tony Hawk,” she captioned.

Meeting one of the best? Casual.

No Tricks, Just Talent

It comes to no surprise that since her time in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Margielyn Didal has been featured on many platforms, including the By Her Rules series of the Olympic Channel, as well as of spots with H&M and of course, New Balance. For the Olympian, it’s all about making the most of the moment, representing, and yes, having fun.

Walking her talk since day one, often with hands raised and tongue sticking out at times, the Filipino athlete was all about wearing the colors and spirit of the Philippines in everything she did. In fact, if you looked closely at her Olympic fit, Margielyn Didal sported the very first sneaker she designed with New Balance in the popular NM379 skateboarding silhouette. “The most important feature on my first NB Numeric shoe was to include the Philippine flag because it represents me as a Filipina, which I’m very proud of,” she says in an interview with Hypebeast. Apart from the flag, the minimal, mostly gray pair she stomped around in at the Ariake Urban Sports Park also sported red and blue accents, as well of a prominent white sole. Simple as it was, it proved to be quite popular because Margielyn Didal’s New Balance Numeric 379’s sold out fast.

As one of only 20 athletes in the NB Numeric team roster, the relationship of Margielyn Didal and New Balance continues, this time in the Numeric 272. Unlike the first sneaker she designed with the brand, the yet-to-be-released pair is even closer to her heart.

Kicking It In Style

Bringing it closer to home, as in pulling from the early days of selling Cebuano delicacies with her mom near a skate park in Cebu, Margielyn Didal imprints her memories on the New Balance Numeric 272. More than just hype, she lays out her heart on the silhouette of the shoe, draping it with the imagery of the very visceral staple in the food culture of the island, the puso (technically spelled out as pusô). While many have come across these bundles of hanging bundles of steamed rice housed in a diamond-shaped chassis of woven coconut leaves, Margielyn Didal holds this close to who she is, crediting it to what helped lead her to the sport that has given her so much.

“It’s like me cause I love rice, I can’t live without rice,” shares Margielyn Didal of her New Balance Numeric 272 signature. “My inspiration for my new shoes is the ‘pusô’, it is made of rice covered with coconut leaves. You see the details on the side, when you touch it, it’s like holding the pusô,” While she says she cannot make one the way her mom does, she sure can detail it like it nobody’s business. Just like the puso, there is a lot of heart in the new colorway of the Filipino Olympian.

Where the sneaks are mostly black, a juxtaposition of khaki panels meant to mimic the laced panels of the fragrant coconut fronds stand out, with additional elements stamped across like her initials and the area code of Cebu on the heel tab, the woven pattern in the laces, and the puso graphic pressed and printed on the insole that make it very much an extension of Margielyn Didal. “Skateboarding is life but rice is lifer,” she writes on Instagram.

Puso, Always

With her take-me-as-I-am demeanor, as well as of her very relatable personality, Margielyn Didal has clearly made quite the impression even well after the Tokyo Olympics. From sharing laughs with her contemporaries, striking quirky poses before her turn, to making time for TikToks, to now kicking it with her puso-inspired New Balance Numeric 272, she was, and still is definitely a whole mood, which was a welcome break from the heightened pressure and intensity of the games and well, life in general.

“Whatever the result is, ey, proud to be Filipino,” the Olympian expressed in a video snippet during the athletic tournament, punctuated by her endearing smile. Wearing the colors of the Philippines proudly from top to bottom, she showed the rest of the world that win or lose, you’ll still remember her, cheering her on in her future endeavors in the sport and in whatever path she tricks out.

If anything, Margielyn Didal just schooled us that more than hype, heart will win at the end of the day. Puso, always.

9 Filipino Personalities Who You Didn’t Know Are Lefties IRL

line
Raise your hand if you're a kaliwete! ✋

When everything doesn’t seem right, go left. Just ask these Filipino celebrities who you didn’t know are actually left-handed in real life.

It’s been said that only 10-20% of the world’s population are “lefties,” or left-handed. While the righteous—erm, right-handed remain a huge chunk of the majority and the world being more “suitable” for them (anyone else had a smear of ink on their hands while writing on a right-handed chair?), there’s something about left-handed people that makes them more unique, especially when you find out that your faves are part of that fraction. Some notable figures are Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Oprah, Ashley Tisdale, and Barack Obama. There’s even an existing holiday (every August 13) that celebrates lefties! Read on below for some of the Filipino personalities who you didn’t know are left-handed. Don’t worry, we were surprised to find out, too.

Bryanboy Just Landed In The Philippines And Already Has Thoughts On Filipino TikTok And The Face Shield

line
Was today the worst? Bryanboy has answers.

From typing away on his blog a few years after the new millennium to relenting to TikTok, Bryanboy has weathered the digital storm in style, emerging as the striking and sassy standard even after all this time.

At this point of an influencer infested internet, there now exists a distinction between the trailblazers and the exponents of the new age system. Back in the day, the scope of what was then a virtual niche involved blogs (remember Blogspot, Livejournal, and Tumblr?) or digital diaries that charmed the world over with its authenticity, irreverence, and refreshing take on the tradition of communication. Soon, as with anything in the dynamic plane of media, the structure would shift towards video and social media, with vlogs and content being the capital and currency that relevance is anchored on. It is in this proposition of providing a platform for the frayed hems of fashion that we’ve met the likes of Tavi Gevinson, Rumi Neely, Susie Bubble, Garance Dore, and of course, Bryanboy.

Armed then with nothing more than a computer, a dependable broadband connection, a high-definition camera, fresh and sharp commentaries, and David-like confidence against all the self-anointed Goliaths of fashion, these forces to be reckoned with not only made statements with their style, but with the future they were heralding. Once infamously and unflinchingly tagged by the unapologetic journalist, Suzy Menkes, as “the poseurs,” these pioneers have since gone past the proverbial velvet ropes and penetrated the inner sanctum of fashion. Now, even after some contesting over the years, the likes of Tina Leung, Margaret Zhang, and Bryanboy, are regular fixtures in the ecosystem of fashion.

While this fashion fairytale has since expanded into many things over the years, with some parlaying into the hybrid of mainstream media, entertainment, and yes, even technology, the fruitful and symbiotic relationship still endures to this very day. Sure, blogging is virtually unheard of with the migration towards micro-blogging and social media, but where content is king (and queen), these internet revolutionaries remain the doyennes.

The Realization Of Bryanboy

The evolution of the blogger to content creator could not be clearer in the realization of Bryanboy. From establishing his blog in 2004 to playfully appointing himself the CEO of Today Was The Worst™️ on TikTok, Bryanboy has veritably seen and done it all in the notoriously temperamental plane of the internet. Not many digital upstarts can lay claim to having a bag named after them or allegedly inspiring a fashion campaign, but he sure can. Once upon a time an outsider, Bryanboy has since become a homogenized insider for the people of the internet, reporting from his campy and cheeky point-of-view without diminishing quality. Operating with the best of both worlds, the Filipino blogger and now internet institution is able to navigate his career where he wants to without having to cut corners on who he really is.

While there is a lot of Bryanboy to go about on social media, there is a more considered one on Instagram, an unfiltered source of sense, reason, and yes, candor on Twitter, and a hoot on TikTok with videos filed as fashion ASMRs, Elevate Everyday, and Today Was D Worst, the same come-as-you-are, take-me-or-leave-it voice that threads all his online engagements. Algorithm be damned, he still manages to make a statement wherever he goes, and in the same Filipino charm and humor that not only catapulted him to superstar status, but cemented it as well. Where everyone is fighting tooth and nail for a stab at 15 seconds of viral internet fame, he continues to take on the world one post, reel, and TikTok at a time.

@bryanboy

Magandang umaga Pilipinas ☀️ ??

♬ Wildest Dreams – bry

How does he do it, you ask? In an interview with GQ, Bryanboy simply says, “I think you just need to adapt with the times to what you know, to where and how you connect with your audience.”

The Filipino Connection

Just today, for example, Bryanboy has been having quite the time on social media. After posting a TikTok on his first day of quarantine in the Philippines, a considerably more privileged one than most, his comments erupted accordingly and well hilariously. Spending much of his time online, he immediately connected with Filipino TikTok, as the algorithm of his FYP skewed to. “Filipino TikTok is pure gold,” he wrote on Twitter after posting a bunch of videos on his timeline. And this is no mere patronizing to a part of who he is either, because aside from posting in Tagalog peppered with contemporary colloquial language, Bryanboy wasted no time and subverted the conversation with his surprisingly up-to-date thoughts on the highly contested and hotly debated off and on and then off again (with exceptions) face shield. “’Di ba 100 million daw?” he chides knowingly on TikTok without batting an eyelash.

From “T*ng inang face shield yan nakakasira ng beauté” to “hulas sa makeup yung face shield my god,” Bryanboy has stacked up Twitter and TikTok likes, with the latter really exploding well within his batting average, and it’s only been a few hours. “I love TikTok Philippines,” he says. And if the few hours since he leaned into Filipino TikTok is any indication, it seems, just as many have done since typing away on his blog back in the early years of the new millennium to finally relenting to the video-sharing app just a little over a year ago, TikTok loves him back.

@bryanboy

Takpan nyo mukha nyo ??

♬ original sound – Bryanboy

Often in fashion, the lingering question, especially in the context of the cycle is what’s new, what’s now, what’s next? For Bryanboy, he never really knows for sure. Buoyed in both the tepid and testy streams of the industry he has now grown up in, he is just going with the flow. Fortunately, that drift has brought him beyond what is current and into a malleable sort of permanence. Who knows where he will be next? But one thing is for sure, we will always be following him, because just like with Filipino TikTok and that goddamn face shield, Bryanboy doesn’t miss a beat.

Pia Wurtzbach, Catriona Gray, Zozi Tunzi, and Andrea Maza is the Miss Universe girl gang we never knew we needed to see. How do we become part of this club?

Stirring the pot between women really just ain’t it—never has, never will be. You see, it’s such a lazy headline when you pit girls against each other whenever pageant season arrives. But really, isn’t the modern-day pageantry all about empowerment, respect, and sisterhood? We’re actually surprised there isn’t a lot of coverage on this, but then again, what else are we here for? So, when Miss Universe queens Pia Wurtzbach (2015), Catriona Gray (2018), Zozi Tunzi (2019) and Andrea Maza (2021) were all spotted together, it reminded us of that one scene in Avengers Endgame where all the bad-ass female characters assembled. Imagine breathing the same air in one big room, radiating with royalty?

Back in reality at the Grand West Arena in Capetown, the rest of the Miss Universe Queens reunited for the coronation night of Miss South Africa 2021 as judges and hosts. In this unparalleled coming together, it was such a delight to see them admire and support each other in real life. It was stunning, but more so special to witness this. They even had a photoshoot with the new winner, Lalela Mswane (though we’re missing Cat cause she flew out earlier than everyone else)! Scroll down below for our favorite moments!

The Biggest Reveals And Trailers From DC FanDome 2021

line
A lot of exciting things are coming.

From a new trailer for The Batman to our first look at The Flash movie, here is a roundup of the major reveals and announcements during DC FanDome 2021.

Related: Here Are All The Major Announcements From Tudum, Netflix’s Global Fan Event

DC FanDome 2021 promised to be the place for fans to get all the news and information on all things DC. And the event delivered. The four-hour show was jam-packed with trailers, reveals, panels, and a whole lot more. Among many things, we got confirmation that Wonder Woman 3 was coming, we met the cast and crew of the upcoming Batgirl and Blue Beetle films. We saw Barry Allen in his new costume for the new season of The Flash. Doom Patrol and Titans got renewed for another season. And Superman got a new motto. But that was just the tip of the iceberg. So, here is a rundown of all the biggest reveals and trailers of the event.

THE BATMAN

Arguably the main event of DC FanDome 2021, we got a new trailer for the upcoming The Batman movie. The new trailer showed us a new look at Paul Dano’s The Riddler and Colin Farrell’s Penguin. We also got the first look at Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman. The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, is looking to be a different kind of origin story as it is taking inspiration from comics like Frank Miller’s Year One, which chronicled Bruce Wayne’s first year as Batman. Based on the new trailer, it seems that we are getting a more raw, intense, and even angrier version of Batman/Bruce Wayne. The movie comes out on March 4, 2022.

BLACK ADAM

Dwayne Johnson is set to make his comic book movie debut as Black Adam in the Black Adam movie. The movie recently entered post-production so The Rock himself made an appearance in DC FanDome 2021 to reveal the opening scene of the movie. It showed a group of scientists and soldiers summoning Black Adam in an underground chamber. But Black Adam is less than friendly as he electrifies a soldier to dust. The powerful anti-hero won’t be the only superpowered being in the movie, Justice Society of America members Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan) are all set to appear. The movie is hitting cinemas on July 29, 2022.

THE FLASH

Ezra Miller was on hand at DC FanDome 2021 to talk about The Flash movie currently in production. Since they are still currently shooting, Ezra said that they couldn’t give a trailer. So instead, we got a glimpse of what we can expect from the movie. The first footage for the movie revealed that Flash travels back in time to save his mother. But in doing so, inadvertently changes the future meaning we’re getting a movie based on the iconic Flashpoint story arc. The teaser also shows Barry Allen, alongside an alternate version of The Flash and a new Supergirl talking to Michael Keaton’s Batman. While we didn’t see his face, the teaser alone already has us excited for the movie. The Flash zooms into theaters on November 2022.

AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM

Jason Momoa, director James Wan, and the rest of the cast and crew talked about what we can expect in the sequel to Aquaman in a new behind-the-scenes teaser. Based on what they showed, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is aiming to take things more seriously with a focus on environmental issues. But we also get glimpses of the action and fun that made the first movie so good. The sequel will see Black Manta return as he takes revenge on Aquaman. The sequel is expected to arrive in cinemas on December 16, 2022.

SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS

The other movie sequel to get its time in the spotlight at DC FanDome was Shazam! Fury of the Gods. We were treated to a behind-the-scenes trailer and the sequel is promising to be bigger and better. We got our first looks at the movie’s villains, Lucy Liu as Kalypso and Helen Mirren as Hespera. It will also be taking a deeper dive into Greek mythology with mythological creatures and locations like Athens. Considering how Shazam! is one of the DCEU’s most underrated entries, we’re hopeful that the sequel will deliver. The film is expected to arrive in June 2023.

PEACEMAKER

In James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, John Cena’s Peacemaker was one of the standout characters. He was such a force that he got his own spinoff show coming to HBO Max on January 13, 2022. John Cena, James Gunn, and the rest of the cast and crew were there to talk about the series as well as premiere a new teaser trailer. The 8-episode series, which James Gunn completely wrote, is set to follow Peacemaker after the events of The Suicide Squad and see him partner with a new team in all-new missions and hijinks. Based on what we’ve come to know of Peacemaker, expect this series to be funny, crazy, and yes, bloody.

SUICIDE SQUAD: KILL THE JUSTICE LEAGUE

Movie and series weren’t the only DC properties that were showed off during DC FanDome 2021. A few video games were also given the spotlight. One of the more anticipated games was Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. We got a new in-game cinematic trailer that showed off more of the game and the story. The game, which is set in the same universe as Batman: Arkham series, will let players take control of Harley Quinn, Killer Shark, Boomerang, and Deadshot as they are tasked with killing with the Justice League under the control of Brainiac. But considering that we still haven’t seen Batman, know what Brainiac’s plan is, or even gameplay, there’s still a lot to look forward to this game. Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is coming in 2022.

GOTHAM KNIGHTS

The other major video game to get shown off at DC FanDome 2021 is Gotham Knights, the upcoming action-adventure game where you get to play as Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing, and Red Hood. The new trailer shed light on the story, specifically the Court of Owls, a secret society operating in Gotham City for decades. This mysterious society is set to play a major role in the game’s plot. Gotham Knights is coming in 2022.

DC LEAGUE OF SUPER-PETS

On the animation side of things, we got our first look at DC League of Super-Pets. This animated movie will star Dwayne Johnson as Superman’s dog Krypto. Meanwhile, Kevin Hart is playing Ace the Bat Hound, Batman’s dog. The rest of the star-studded voice cast includes John Krasinski, Diego Luna, Kate McKinnon, and Keanu Reeves. The film sees the super pets team up to stop crime while their owners are on vacation. The animated flick is hitting theaters in May 2022.

CATWOMAN: HUNTED

A pleasant surprise during DC FanDome 2021 was the first trailer for the upcoming Catwoman: Hunted animated movie. It follows Catwoman as she steals a priceless gem and as a result, gets the negative attention of a lot of villains, as well as Batwoman. Catwoman has been in her fair share of movies, shows, and video games. But it’s about time she gets her own lead adventure. Add to that Catwoman is being voiced by Elizabeth Gillies and the film features a slight anime aesthetic, this is looking to be a promising watch. You can stream this on HBO Max in 2022.

One is a musical genre that has been alive for decades and is mostly enjoyed by the older generation. The other is a genre that has risen in popularity as of late and is more enjoyed by the current generation. But as unrelated as the two may seem, classical music and P-Pop actually complement each other well. And during the recently held Forte: A Pop Orchestra Benefit Concert showed that pop music can truly be taken to the next level with the help of a live orchestra.

Image

Held at the St. Scholastica’s College and in benefit of the Sr. Baptista Battig Music Foundation, which helps underprivileged but talented youth through music, Forte was a great night for music with its comprehension and appreciation of the power pop and classical music can have when combined. Forte was also further proof that headliners SB19 and 4th Impact can deliver on the vocals in its purest, most essential form.

SB19 PRESENTS CLASSICAL RE-WORKS OF THEIR SONGS

sb19 forte concert

For SB19’s first concert of the year, Back In The Zone, it was a production-filled night with choreography, outfit changes, set design, and the works. But for Forte, the group pared it down and instead, showcased their vocal prowess with just a few considered dance moves on the side. Some of SB19’s songs lend themselves well to a live orchestra and it was nice to see the group take advantage of that. The new renditions of Tilaluha, Hanggang sa Huli, and MAPA we’re stunning. A particular highlight of Forte was when they were performing MAPA and the SSC Chamber Choir joined the group. The choir and orchestra really brought the song to the next level.

Meanwhile, it was a pleasant surprise to see SB19 do classical versions of their songs SLMT and Mana during Forte. The violins really fit with the spooky vibe of Mana. Meanwhile, on the fashion front, the boys looked great in their tailored black and gold outfits and every member delivered on the vocals.

4TH IMPACT, THE VOCAL POWERHOUSE

Image

Ever since we first got to meet 4th Impact on X Factor UK over six years ago, we know that the group has the pipes. And their performances during Forte further proved that you shouldn’t be sleeping on the group. They started things off with more upbeat tracks like Queen of the Night. But later on, in their gorgeous gowns, the girls sang the house down with songs like Ikaw Lamang, Emotion, and Bridge Over Troubled Water.

The singing was A-tier, the harmonies were so good, and 4th Impact really brought out the emotion in the songs. And when everyone came on stage in the end for the finale, it was a treat to see SB19 and 4th Impact perform together on stage for the first time. Considering how 4th Impact is under ShowBT, fingers crossed that we’ll get that collab soon.

FLOWERS FOR NICOLE PUGEDA AND ISAAC IGLESIAS

But of course, let’s not forget the undeniable talents of Nicole Pugeda and Isaac Iglesias. The orchestral soloists sounded amazing as they sang classics like Araw Gabi, Be Careful With My Heart, and Ikaw At Ako. A big round of applause should also goes to the Battig Chamber Orchestra composed of scholars and alumni from St. Scholastica’s Conservatory of Music. Not once during the two shows did the orchestra slip up.

Overall, Forte: A Benefit Pop Orchestra Concert, was a great night for music, vocals, and a heartwarming way to support the scholars of Sr. Baptista Battig Music Foundation.
