How Fearless Social Media Platform She Talks Asia Puts Women’s Stories Front and Center

line
The power of talk.

She Talks Asia, this year’s Big Bold Brave Awards winner for Fearless Social Media Account, talks finding your voice and the power of stories.

Related: For Jo Sebastian, Your Love-Hate Relationship With Food Doesn’t Have To Stay That Way Forever

In the wise words of Reese Witherspoon, “women’s stories matter—they just matter.” With their conferences, programs, and initiatives putting women’s stories front and center, She Talks Asia embodies Reese’s quote beautifully.

A women empowerment community and advocacy agency, She Talks Asia amplifies the voices of women from different walks of life, sharing their stories and experiences and building community through conversations. From their active digital and social media platforms to their community grassroots programs, they prove that there’s a lot to be gained when you’re willing to listen. By platforming women of all ages, occupations, aspirations, and perspectives, She Talks Asia intends to spark conversations, encourage reflection, and move toward greater equality and empowerment of women.

she talks asia fearless social media account community

She Talks Asia is this year’s Big Bold Brave Awards: Next Level Fearless Social Media Account, nominated alongside fellow platforms and communities that also have something to fight for. The community they’ve spent years building rallied behind them, earning them a well-deserved win and cheering them on to do even bigger, bolder, and braver things.

NYLON Manila chats with She Talks Asia co-founders Lynn Pinugu, Bianca Gonzalez-Intal, and Iza Calzado-Wintle about social media, community-building, reflection and conversation through storytelling, and making impact with clear intentions. Read on below!

she talks asia fearless social media account community

Congratulations on winning this year’s Big Bold Brave Awards Fearless Social Media account! We know you’re more than just that, but how does it feel to have your platform earn this title?

Bianca: Of course, we were happy when we found out that we were nominated, alongside other accounts that we follow as well. But I personally have not really seen us as a fearless account. Being recognized as one, if anything, inspires us to go more in that direction. We’re happy, but at the same time more empowered to keep going more in that direction of fearlessness.

Lynn: I think when we map out who we’re going to feature, what we’re going to do for She Talks Asia, the intention is not necessarily to be fearless. The intention is to really understand what are the conversations we need to put out? Who are the people we need to give a platform to? I think it’s important to really push the boundaries in terms of how we can be more fearless.

Iza: To be honest, we were rooting for someone else! But for us to win it, it’s about being reminded of how huge our impact can be. We don’t always know that, in another person’s point of view, we’re fearless in some way. When I shared about my body journey before, maybe that was perceived as fearless. When I talked about losing my mom, it took a lot of courage, but I was also very ready. Sometimes the fear comes from just not being ready. It doesn’t mean you’re not fearless.

she talks asia fearless social media account community

You place emphasis on the value of talking—of women sharing experiences, perspectives, and insight with each other. What do you think is the value of pursuing this collective learning and understanding?

Lynn: We all have a unique perspective, even if our experiences are almost the same—unique reflection. And I think what She Talks does best is we can harness the power of storytelling to build empathy within the community.

Because I do think that a lot of misunderstandings, a lot of conflict, it results from not being able to see or not being able to acknowledge and recognize where another person is coming from, right? Always thinking that your view is the only view, when in fact, it’s a very incomplete view. And to us, that’s why these stories matter.

Because one, it gives you an insight into another person’s life. We also really make it a point to be as diverse and as inclusive as possible, because we know what it’s like to grow up at the time when media had the cookie cutter approach to beauty and representation.

she talks asia fearless social media account community

Is there one instance or moment where you yourself kind of had a shift in perspective during one of your She Talks Asia events or conversations? Like one lesson or moment that really stood out to you, something that you carry with you until now?

Iza: It’s hard! There are so many. I think what we want to always do is make people feel seen. I love that phrase—”I feel seen.” To see and hear stories of women succeeding in life whether they’re succeeding as being a homemaker or a CEO, makes it doable for you. Some I admire even more because they carve out a path for themselves that’s never been taken.

Lynn: We had a mental health workshop for mothers, where a mom brought her mom and shared with me that this was the first time she felt like she finally fully forgave her mother. Sometimes we forget just how healing a conversation could be—opportunities to reflect on your experiences and actually address your emotions.

That moment was such an important reminder that we really need to bring it to more people who won’t necessarily have access to that. It’s so important for us to make sure that women from low-income communities who don’t have the opportunity to go to these conferences would also have the opportunity to hear these stories and tell them, as well.

We know how much social media has been both beneficial and harmful to women (and people in general). As a platform that amplifies women’s stories and struggles, how can we use social media in a way that’s positive, uplifting, and empowering?

Bianca: I think it’s so tricky when someone wants to be on social media and the goal is to inspire, because that’s not on us to decide that the content we come out with is inspiring for other people. That’s up to them.

I think anyone who wants to use their social media for social good must first be clear on their intention to use it. Whether it’s a personal account or an organization account, or a brand, doon kase nangagaling lahat—yung intention. And then how inspiring it is or how empowering it is will follow.

Lynn: For She Talks Asia, we really identified what values we wanted to be known for and guided by. We put up She Talks Asia because we want to build a community where women can support each other—a platform that will allow respectful dialogue between different perspectives, a platform that would feature stories that would build empathy and hopefully, because there’s more empathy, then society will also be more compassionate as a result.

she talks asia fearless social media account community

Iza: I think people are moved by something that is genuine. Personally, when I put out content, you pray that this finds its audience, and especially now when you put it our there you want to check the engagement and the number of views. That’s not the goal. She Talks Asia has never been about how many views, and I think that’s because of the values that we have nga—we’re very clear about the intention behind the content that we put out.

What advice would you give to the young women of this generation about how to find their voice?

Bianca: My most distilled advice would be…just to keep using it. And to know na magkakamali sila, makakallout sila, makakancel sila at some point. But that’s the only way you’ll really find your voice is if you keep using it. And I don’t mean na you always have to post or share publicly.

It’s using your voice even in your small circles, with your family, your friends, you share your opinion. That’s where you also gain the confidence to keep speaking up. Kasi even though it doesn’t feel like it, kasi it feels like “I’m just one person. My voice doesn’t matter.” No, your voice actually does matter.

Iza: The best way talaga to learn, is just to do what feels best for you at that time. What I’ve learned is to always take that pause. Sometimes that pause is just a breath. Sometimes the pause is a week before you do something or say something.

You only have a voice if you’re clear about who you are. The same for my craft as an actress. The more I get to know myself, the clearer I am about who I am, the more I can step into another character. The same goes for your voice. The clearer you are about who you are, the more you can tackle issues, the more you can use your platform in a more impactful way. Just keep being true to who you are at that very moment. And I remind myself that whenever I make mistakes, I just have to keep doing better.

Lynn: My advice would be…reflecting and understanding what is stopping you from speaking up. Is it the fear of being judged? Is it the fear of not being accepted or that you’re disappointing someone? Because I think that a large part of finding your voice is also valuing and embracing who you are. And knowing that whatever stage you are in your life, you have something to bring to the table. You have something positive to contribute to the world.

she talks asia fearless social media account community

Finding your voice is also not static. It’s a constant work in progress, because we’re also changing as we get older. It’s also having the humility to listen. Yes, I bring wisdom to the table, but I also have to be willing to seek out and to listen to the wisdom that other people could bring to the table.

What would you like to say to the community that has voted you the winner of Fearless Social Media Account?

Lynn: Our platform wouldn’t exist without the community. We may have started it, but it’s really our community that has helped us grow it. We are thankful for this award, but this award is theirs as much as it is ours.

Iza: A special shout out to our Tribe Council, that community that has been so helpful, especially in the past couple of years. So thank you to our community. And, I think actually, for the award, thank you for inspiring us. Parang ngayon, we’re like oh my gosh, let’s go! What’s next? So, thank you so much.

From DIY drinks to savory sides, we’ve got a selection of gastronomic picks for you this June. We guarantee they’ll be worth the purchase, and your taste buds will thank you for them.

OOMA – Maggie Batacan, Editor-in-Chief

Every dish I’ve tried from this restaurant has been peak delicious. In particular, their Cauli and Nasu Poppers and Katsudon have steadily entered my regular rotation of go-to dishes when I’m in the mood to treat myself. The curry-mayo dip for my current favorite appetizer is sublime, and the flavors of the Katsudon are the perfect mix of savory, sweet, and briny. I also stand by their aligue mayo 100%.

YABU’S MOZZARELLA KATSU STICKS – Raf Bautista, Managing Editor

No matter what I order as a main entree at Yabu, I will always order the mozzarella sticks as a side. The crunchy coating, stringy cheese, and tangy sauce just does it for me every time.

SOUTHBANK GNOCCHI BROWN BUTTER & SAGE GNOCCHI – Gelo Quijencio, Multimedia Artist

The perfect balance of nuttiness and savory flavor. The buttery richness of the sauce is well blended by the herbal notes of sage that elevates each bite. For me, it’s a standout dish that showcases the best of Italian-inspired cuisine. Whether you’re a fan of traditional flavors or simply appreciate a well-executed pasta dish, this one is sure to impress.

UCC INSTANT COFFEE MIX – Nica Glorioso, Features Writer

food picks june 2024

UCC Iced Creamy 3-in-1 Coffee Mix makes my WFH afternoons so much more bearable as someone who sometimes just needs a sweet little drink. Just one packet of this, creamer, sugar, milk, and ice in some water, and I’m immediately happier. It also comes in a few different flavors (my personal fave is the Chocolate Vanilla).

SEATTLE’S BEST CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE MADE WITH GHIRARDELLI – Precy Tan, Beauty Writer

food picks june 2024

I just had the most amazing shake of my life, and I can’t stop thinking about it! Imagine Ghirardelli chocolate and chocolate ice cream blended into the creamiest, most delicious concoction. My favorite part about it? They sprinkle Ghirardelli powder on top and add marshmallows for that perfect finishing touch. If you love chocolate, you HAVE to try this shake.

P. DONUTS – Kyla Amadora, Art Intern

P. Donuts offers a range of Pinoy flavored donuts from buko pie, buko pandan, chocnut, and toasted coconut! They also have fritters varying from Saba, Langka, and Piña. Aside from these flavors, they also serve regular donuts like the glaze etc… But my personal favorite is their Milky Cheese Donuts, it’s a simple flavor that you wouldn’t have expected to be the best among the rest!

MANMARU – Zean Perello, Video Intern

My top pick for a restaurant this month is Manmaru! It is located in Japanese Town, often called Little Tokyo, in Makati Square, Legazpi Village. It offers a variety of authentic Japanese dishes at reasonable and budget-friendly prices, with generous portions that will leave you full. The menu includes sushi, noodles, and other Japanese dishes that you might have never tried before. Overall, it was a good experience eating there, and I would definitely recommend it to a friend and come back anytime soon.

BIRRIA TACOS – Shaene Berber, Art Intern

I like birria tacos because of their rich flavor. The outer part of the tacos is crispy, while the beef inside is juicy and flavorful. The broth where you dip it in also adds flavor which makes it a perfect combination.

Luckily, the NYLON Manila team found the perfect beauty buys to brighten even the dreariest of days. From nail care to makeup must-haves, these beauty essentials became our go-to companions, ensuring we stayed fresh and feeling fabulous no matter what the weather threw our way.

Cuticle Oil Manicure Pen

In an era where Russian Manicures and Soft Gel extensions are hot trends for Gen Z, nail and hand care should be emphasized as well. I would highly suggest purchasing cuticle oil, particularly the travel sized, pen-shaped one to bring around with you. It’s affordable, easy to use, smells nice, and leaves your nails looking shiny and strong. – Bianca Lao, Brand Associate

ISSY x Slo Lopez Curated Eyeshadow Palette

As a fan of Slo’s work as a makeup artist, the ISSY x Slo Lopez collection was a must-buy for me this June. The formulas and colors were made with so much care and thought, and the customizable eyeshadow palette makes choosing what goes with your vibe easy and fun! – Abby Chua, Art Intern

Opera My Lash Advanced Mascara

If you hate the look of spider lashes and have been on the hunt for a mascara that will make them look fluffy and defined but still natural, then look no further. This mascara has a skinny wand that helps apply the product lightly and evenly while also making it easier to avoid accidentally marking your face. It’s also waterproof enough for daily use but not so much so that it’s a nightmare to remove – as long as you’re not having an existential crisis ugly-cry sesh, this is the droid you’re looking for. – Maggie Batacan, Editor-in-Chief

Peri Pera Speedy Skinny Browcara

Bleached brows are in, and we are here for it. The Peri Pera Speedy Skinny Browcara holds and tames brows while also changing their color, giving a softer and more innocent look. You should definitely try incorporating this into your daily makeup routine.

Rom&nd Glasting Melting Balm

The Rom&nd Glasting Melting Balm has been in my cart for a while, and when I finally bought it, it did not disappoint. It’s pigmented, easy to apply, lasts pretty long, and leaves a stain, making it my new go-to lippie. – Nica Glorioso, Features Writer

Vice Cosmetics One&Done Sticks

As a huge fan of the One&Done Sticks, I was pretty bummed when they were discontinued. So, you can imagine my excitement when Vice Cosmetics brought them back! The best part? They now come with a built-in brush that’s actually super handy. The creamy, blendable formula we all loved is still there, making it a permanent fixture in my beauty routine.

My go-to shades as a morena are Dusk (contour), Flutter (blush), and Push (bronzer)! – Precy Tan, Copywriter

AGORA YOUTH AWARDS

These Students Might Just Be The Future Of Philippine Marketing

line
They've got marketing moves.

The 32nd Agora Youth Awards looks to champion a new batch of college marketing students and orgs with a focus on sustainability.

Related: The Nation’s Hope: TAYO Awards Foundation Hails Youth Orgs That Ignited Resonant Change

For over three decades, the Agora Youth Awards has been empowering the youth and spotlighting hundreds of young people as some of the best marketing students in the country. These students have been recognized for their ingenuity, spirit, and talent as young changemakers who have a part to play in the future of marketing and business in the Philippines. For its 32nd edition, the Agora Youth Awards is recognizing once more young marketing changemakers from colleges and universities across the country, with AGC Power Holdings Corp. (AGC PHC) serving as a co-presenter, acknowledging the youth’s part to play in business.

GEN Z’S TAKE ON MARKETING

Hosted by the Philippine Marketing Association (PMA) and the Philippine Junior Marketing Association (PJMA), the 32nd Agora Youth Awards acknowledges the power of Gen Z to bring about change in major fields, such as marketing. Nearly everything that people do, whether it be intentional or on a whim, has some form of marketing behind it. Even if they aren’t yet graduates, the young marketing students, and select marketing orgs, set to be awarded this 2024 are seen as future trailblazers and potential leaders in the industry who hope to use its influence for the good.

AGORA YOUTH AWARDS

Behind a changemaker, after all, isn’t just limited to getting perfect scores on quizzes, but also the positive impact and ideas they bring to the community. That’s reflected by the five key areas the Agora Youth Awards used to determine this year’s honorees: academic performance, extracurricular achievement, marketing acumen, values, and personality.

In keeping up with the changing needs of the times, this year’s Agora Youth Awards focuses on the theme of sustainable innovation, recognizing companies’ role in the climate crisis and the need to do better, and AI, with how it is a major question mark for society moving forward.

AGORA YOUTH AWARDS

“This year, we are celebrating our 70th year with our theme: ‘SustaAInability Marketing’, shared Leah Marie Ayeng, Director of Youth Academe. “We, as marketers are all responsible for a huge amount of trashes from packaging to promotional materials. We need to make conscious efforts and be intentional about taking action. AI is however a game changer. It is important that we adapt and make use of it responsibly. It is supposed to help us make our tasks easier and to connect to the world in a faster phase. Both AI and Sustainability should be integrated into our business to realize its long term benefits.”

Following a months-long search, the individual and organization awardees are set to be recognized at the Sequoia Hotel Manila Bay, Parañaque City on July 31.

MEDIA PICKS JUNE 2024

NYLON Manila Picks: June 2024 Was A Lot, But These Media Picks Got Us Through It

line
Rewatching and replaying as we speak.

We’ve got the deets on the media picks of the month that we would brag to our friends.

Related: NYLON Manila Picks: Our Favorite Media Picks That Got Us Through May 2024

What a month. It was Pride, graduation season, the start of the rainy season, the beginning of school summer break, and more. It was a lot to take in these past four weeks. And in the middle of all that was the media picks that kept us sane, fed, and entertained. From fanmeets of our favorite artists, albums that became our comfort listen, discovering underrated gems, and more, here are our favorite media of June 2024.

Helluva Boss –  Maggie Batacan, Editor-in-Chief

That a show of this level of storytelling and animation quality is available on YouTube /for free/ is one of the reasons why I love the internet. Set in literal hell with a cast of characters who work in the revenge business, the show uses strong language, features mature themes (violence, sex, etc.), and is perfect if you have a dark sense of humor and a love-hate relationship with your religious upbringing.

Inside Out 2 – Raf Bautista, Managing Editor

What I love most about this relatable Pixar sequel is its realistic depiction of anxiety and how in its nature to help you prevent future mistakes, it ends up messing with you physically and mentally. Anxiety is a non-intentional villain here, which is how often anxiety in real life operates. As someone who has self-esteem issues and always feels like the odd one out in group settings, Riley’s battle with Anxiety as she wanted to fit in a new setting spoke to me in ways few movies have.

Great Gatsby The Musical Original Broadway Cast Recording – Bianca Lao, Brand Associate

Since March of this year, when I heard Green Light for the first time, featuring the voices of Jeremy Jordan and Eva Noblezada, I instantly knew that I would obsess over the music. With voices like theirs, there’s no doubt that they wouldn’t deliver. My personal favorites from the soundtrack are Green Light and Past Is Catching Up To Me.

Maxton Hall – Nica Glorioso, Features Writer

I started Maxton Hall – The World Between Us expecting it to be pure cliché romance trash—and there’s nothing wrong with that—but I was pleasantly surprised by the series. There was a pretty good reason why my timeline was full of people talking about it. Predictable, sure, but it’s got charm, crazy chemistry, and likable leads. Worth a weekend binge.

Byeon Woo Seok Manila Fanmeet – Gelo Quijencio, Multimedia Artist

A mixture of meeting Sun Jae and Byeon Woo Seok is such an experience. His visuals, vocals, humor, and his fan service are top-tier.

Charli xcx’s BRAT Album – Christine Roska, Marketing Intern

This album has solidified Charli XCX as a true generational pop icon. She perfectly captures the essence of partying: the thrill, the sound, and the sense of liberation. Listening to this album, I feel the freedom and empowerment of dancing in the middle of a crowd. She explores various sounds and techniques, yet the album remains cohesive throughout. I honestly think this is the album of the year. With all things green being associated with the album, it’s a BRAT summer. We’re heading back to the Tumblr grunge crystal castles Skins UK era, and I’m here for it!

How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies – Zean Perello, MMA Intern, Abby Chua, MMA Intern

Zean – As someone who was also raised by my grandmother, the movie never failed to incorporate small details that connect us to reality while watching it. From its cinematography to its creative approach, despite being set in Thailand, I believe it resonates well with all households or people who grew up raised by their grandmothers or grandparents globally, making it more appealing to audiences.

It is a heartwarming and wrenching movie with simple yet moving conversations. I wouldn’t say it is drama-heavy, but it truly moves the audience’s heart throughout its two-hour runtime. Lastly, I believe that how you rate and see the movie as a masterpiece depends on your perspective and experience. It is something new and refreshing for me to watch with its story plot, which resonates with many Asian households. Nonetheless, it is a great movie.

Abby – I believe that this is the most emotionally damaging movie of 2024. When it comes to family and growing up, you’ll never get anything as genuine as the stories told in Asian films.

Cosplaying as PUBG Mobile’s “Devious Cybercat”

As NYLON Manila’s “Favorite Game Streamer” of the year, why do you think people resonate with your content?

BIG WINNERS

To be recognized as NYLON Manila’s “Favorite Game Streamer” of the year feels surreal. Gaming has always been a part of my life. I started playing on the PlayStation when I was just 5 years old, bonding with my dad and brother over our shared adventures in new worlds, collecting monsters, journeying into new lands, and unraveling stories. I believe that my community feels that genuine enthusiasm and love for gaming and that is what is fueling my streams. Sharing my journey, making choices together with the chat, and experiencing the highs and lows of gaming makes it a fun experience for me and my community.

What got you into gaming content and what makes you stay with it?

I’ve always loved playing games but my biggest motivator to create gaming content was my in-game friends. I was once a guild leader of a guild named “Exodiac in Ragnarok”. We really enjoyed playing together, talking about game strategies, coming up with new builds, and helping other players clear dungeon instances. Starting with a small audience of friends in Discord, I began streaming on Facebook in 2017 and gradually attracted a community who enjoyed the fun, wins, losses, and camaraderie of gaming. Through streaming, I really enjoyed sharing these experiences even more, whether it was a clutch moment highlight, a relatable feeling of defeat or even sometimes just some funny experiences in-game.

I remember a time when someone came to me at a convention and told me that through my streams, I was able to make them laugh and smile during tough times in their life. That inspired me to work even more passionately as a gaming content creator.

What are you doing to take your content to the next level?

Just like leveling up in a game, I constantly seek new challenges and creative ideas for my content. One of my proudest achievements was writing a song for Call of Duty Mobile last year, which got featured in the game. It was the most surreal moment when our song “In The Zone” ended up as the lobby music for CODM. Who would have thought that it could happen after 4 years of playing the game, but it did. It was really the biggest win for me in gaming!

The next level for me? To continue gaining EXP in my craft by bringing creativity into my streaming, content creation, and cosplaying. My biggest dream would be to voice a game character! That would be a dream come true.

How would you describe today’s content creation/gaming landscape in the Philippines? How do you think Gen Z has shaped this field?

The content creation and gaming landscape in the Philippines is vibrant and evolving. Social media platforms have brought more Filipinos into gaming and content creation, and we even get recognition across the world. Gen Z has significantly shaped this field with their fresh perspectives on trends. Whenever I check my FYP, I always feel inspired and entertained by fellow creators who foster a dynamic and inclusive gaming culture, making the industry more exciting and collaborative.

What direction would you like to see content creation/gaming take in the next few years?

I would love to see content creators focus on creating relatable and inspiring content. Gaming impacts everyone differently, whether it’s MMORPGs offering grand adventures, JRPGs providing immersive stories, or FPS games fostering teamwork. What sets gaming content creators apart is the ability to find new friends through games and experience new things together. I want to encourage content creators to live positive lives and reflect that positivity in their content. By doing so, they can positively impact their community, audience, and viewers, serving as good examples and inspiring others to reach for their dreams.

Do you have any advice for people who are interested in trying gaming/content creation?

To aspiring content creators, I would say: be authentic and stay true to yourself. Create content that you are passionate about and that reflects your unique personality. Engage genuinely with your community and build relationships with your audience. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try new things—innovation is key in this ever-evolving field. Lastly, always strive to be a positive influence. Your content can inspire and uplift others, so use that influence wisely and make a positive impact on your community.

From being rookies to ranking up and becoming legendary, each step of the journey has taught me invaluable lessons about determination, resilience, and teamwork. Like any endgame scenario, victory isn’t always guaranteed, but what matters most is never losing sight of our goals and never giving up.

It’s not whether you win or lose; it’s how you play the game. Every match, every challenge, every defeat is an opportunity to learn, grow, and improve. And regardless of the outcome, as long as we give it our all, it’s always a Good Game.

Gen Z Speaks: Why It’s Important To Celebrate Pride All Year Long

Loud and proud, all year round.

Hear from Gen Z creators and artists all about why it’s important to celebrate queerness and champion equality and liberation 24/7, 365 days a year.

Although people are known to celebrate Pride Month in June in commemoration of the Stonewall uprising in the Unites States, the point has been made over and over again that celebrating the existence and acknowledging the struggle of the LGBTQIA+ community are everyday endeavors. Pride is more than just a colorful celebration of the beauty of love and embracing identity, but also a protest against the injustice and discrimination all queer people, of all sexualities, identities, and ages, experience.

Championing diversity, inclusivity, and queer joy and safety goes beyond tolerance and performative Pride Month marketing actions—it requires a critical examination of the struggles the LGBTQIA+ community face, as well as an openness to embrace and celebrate people’s sexualities, identities, and gender expressions in all forms. It requires giving the community the freedom to exist as they are and love as they do.

With all media platforms highlighting queerness in ways we haven’t seen before and allies growing in number, it’s clear we’ve moved quite a bit away from the shame, silence, and discrimination that has marked queer existence. But with things like the SOGIE Bill still in limbo in the Philippine Senate, and rampant discrimination and harassment against the queer community, it’s also clear that there’s still a long way to go.

And no one knows that better than the out, loud, and proud Filipino youth of today, sparkling brightly as they lead the way to a more just and open future. So, we’ve rounded up a few Filipino Gen Z artists and creatives to tell us exactly why it’s important to celebrate Pride and the LGBTQIA+ community all day, every day, all year round.

Why is it important to celebrate Pride and the LGBTQIA+ community all year round?

Celebrating Pride and the LGBTQIA+ community all year round is crucial because it keeps the fight for equality, acceptance, and visibility alive every day, not just in June. It is akin to how we celebrate pageantry, such as Miss Universe Philippines, as it celebrates the beauty of humanity.

The Pride Community reminds us that being different is something to be embraced, celebrating the beauty in our diversity, fostering openness to an assortment of perspectives, possibilities, and supporting everyone in the community continuously.

I think it’s really important to celebrate queer joy and artists all year round. The LGBT+ community has pioneered so much of the culture in the world today, and with the amount of sacrifices and hardships queer people have faced and continue to face to this day, it’s necessary to uplift queer voices always. As a proud queer artist myself, I find so much delight being with queer people and surrounding them in my life, queerness is beautiful and should be acknowledged as much as possible.

It’s important to celebrate pride and the queer community all year round because we’re not just a one time thing, we exist, we’re as real as every non queer person on earth is. We’ve laughed, smiled, cried, and survived in a world that was built without people like us in mind, and everyday we’re fighting for our right to still be here.

It’s important that Pride is not just a one-month thing, because the struggles of the queer community happen everyday, from queer youth getting bullied daily in school to society as a whole not recognizing trans individuals. We must continuously acknowledge that the fight in passing the SOGIE Bill, ending gender-based violence, giving justice for Jennifer Laude, and many many more does not stop at the end of pride month.

Pride is more than just a celebration, but a resistance for queer liberation and equality for all. Being a member of the LGBTQIA+, everyday is a struggle for genuine acceptance—that’s why we must have the spirit of pride all year round because we resist to exist everyday.

Track To The Future: How Habit Tracking Can Unlock A Brand New You

Good luck, babe!

With six months left in the year, harness the power of the MyZine worksheets to track your goals effectively and achieve success in your ~rebranding~.

Welcome to adulting, where we’re constantly juggling a whirlwind of choices—career paths, personal growth, relationships—that can leave us feeling burnt out. Ever wondered why some people seem to have it all together? They wake up early, crush their studies, hit the gym, and still have time to hang with friends. Spoiler alert: they don’t have it “all figured out,” but one thing most of them swear by is a habit tracker.

Habit tracking isn’t just about ticking off boxes; it’s about being intentional with your time and actions. When you track your habits, you get a crystal-clear view of what’s working and what’s not. It’s like having a personal GPS to navigate your journey to becoming the best version of yourself. For anyone feeling a bit lost or burnt out, especially during these ~chaotic~ years, here’s how habit tracking can be a total game-changer.

Hello, Habit Tracking!

Imagine waking up each day with clarity and purpose, knowing that every action you take is a step towards your growth. Habit tracking provides the structure and accountability you need to build a routine that supports your dreams. Whether you’re aiming for career success, building meaningful relationships, or boosting your well-being, habit tracking keeps you focused and on track.

Build Better Habits

Building better habits isn’t about overhauling your entire life overnight. It’s about making small, consistent changes that lead to big results over time. Want to stay hydrated? Track it. Want to spend less time on social media? Track it.

Each time you follow through, you reinforce a positive pattern in your brain. Over time, these small wins add up, helping you build a healthier, more productive lifestyle without feeling like you’re making huge sacrifices.

Daily Dose Self-Awareness

One of the coolest perks of habit tracking is the self-awareness it brings. By keeping tabs on your habits, you start to notice patterns in your behavior. Are you more productive in the mornings or at night? Does your mood skyrocket after a workout? Do you sleep better when you ditch screens before bed? This kind of insight is gold. It helps you understand what works best for you and why, letting you make smarter decisions about how to spend your time and energy.

And here’s a gentle reminder: what works for others might not work for you, no matter how perfect it looks on social media. Everyone’s path is different, and habit tracking helps you discover what truly fits your lifestyle and goals.

Fail Forward

No one is perfect, and that’s okay. Habit tracking isn’t about being flawless; it’s about progress. If you miss a day or slip up, don’t sweat it. Use it as a learning opportunity. Why did you miss that workout? What can you do differently next time?

By adopting a fail-forward mentality, you turn mistakes into stepping stones rather than stumbling blocks. Another gentle reminder? Every great success story is full of small failures that taught valuable lessons.

Getting Started

Ready to start your habit-tracking journey? Here’s a simple guide to get you going:

  • Choose Your Habits: Start by selecting a few key habits you want to prioritize. It’s crucial to keep these goals specific and achievable. Instead of setting a broad goal like “get fit,” break it down into something like “exercise for 20 minutes daily.” This clarity helps you stay focused and makes it easier to track your progress effectively.
  • Practice Patience: Remember, forming new habits is a gradual process that requires persistence and patience. Be kind to yourself as you navigate setbacks and obstacles along the way. Stay committed to your goals, and trust that consistent effort will lead to meaningful results over time.
  • Track Your Progress: Utilize the MyZine Worksheet to log your daily habits and monitor your progress over time. This tool not only helps you stay organized but also provides a visual representation of how far you’ve come on your journey to building better habits.
  • Set Reminders: Enhance your chances of sticking to your new routines by setting daily reminders. Whether it’s through phone alerts, sticky notes, or alarms, these reminders serve as gentle nudges to stay committed to your goals throughout the day.
  • Reflect Weekly: At the end of each week, take some time to reflect on your achievements and challenges. Reviewing your progress allows you to celebrate small victories and identify any areas where adjustments might be necessary. This reflection process is essential for staying motivated and maintaining momentum in your habit-building journey.
