Watch the likes of Shakespearean plays and Fleabag in Ayala Greenbelt cinemas from September 2023 to May 2024 as the CCP is bringing British theatre excellence to Philippine cinema screens!
The Cultural Center of the Philippines is bringing the best of British theatre to the Philippines. And all you need to do is head to the cinemas—in Ayala Greenbelt to be specific! National Theatre Live is an initiative started in 2009 that aims to promote arts and culture by bringing British theatre to cinemas all over the world. Live theatre productions were filmed in high definition as they are performed in front of a live audience, and are made to look stellar on the silver screen.
This run of the National Theatre Live is only the first season of the initiative, with more to come from the CCP! From September 26, 2023 to May 28, 2024, catch theatre excellence at Ayala Greenbelt cinemas and celebrate art and culture with fellow theatre enthusiasts.

A NEW AGE OF THEATRE
Live theatre is experiencing a Renaissance of sorts after the worst of the pandemic. The success of international musicals staged here in the Philippines like Hamilton, Tick, Tick…Boom!, The Last Five Years, and the upcoming Rent, local productions like Ang Huling El Bimbo, Ibarra, the upcoming Parokya Ni Edgar musical, as well as student productions like Tanghalang Ateneo’s Ardór and DLSU Theatre Guild’s Halimaw mark a reinvigorated enthusiasm and appreciation for live theatre.
Facebook/9 Works Theatrical
Of course, it’s more expensive to watch a live staged performance (especially abroad, like in London), and it’s definitely different from watching a filmed screening, but translating these productions to the big screen is still a great effort to bring theatre to the public, and it’s as marvelous and enjoyable as any movie screening. According to the CCP, this series of screenings aims to “make the best of British theater accessible to Filipino cinema audiences at an affordable ticket price.”
So what are you waiting for? Grab those tickets and let’s get this show on the road!
