As we say goodbye to the month of April, the music industry is making sure it ends on a fiery note. Among other things, we got “hope it’s true” rumors that GOT7 and BLACKPINK will be having comebacks in the coming months. Speaking of K-pop, Coachella 2022 ended over the past weekend, which saw aespa take to the main stage to deliver a rousing set. TOMORROW X TOGETHER is set to make their comeback this May. But not only that, they also announced their very first world tour. SB19 and MNL48 recently entered the PBB house that made for some special moments. Alamat dropped a new music video will SEVENTEEN’S Dino officially launched his Instagram. And finally, we finally got confirmation that Pinay actress Chantal Videla will be making her debut this June. Of course, new music will always be a constant in our lives, which is why we rounded up some of the best new songs that dropped over the course of the past week.

AS YOU ARE – ZACK TABUDLO

Zack Tabudlo, aka the modern day prince of love songs, is back once more to aim for our hearts with As You Are. One of his more romantic songs to date, and that is saying something, As You Are sees the young musician express, in no uncertain terms, his love for a special someone and how he’s ready to treat her the way she deserves to be treated. With minimal production, As You Are shines as Zack’s voice pierces through. We may have just found everyone’s next favorite wedding song.

THAT THAT – PSY AND SUGA

K-pop legend Psy recently made his first comeback in five years with the rowdy That That. Featuring BTS’s Suga, That That is a party anthem about living your best life, dance moves and all with Suga giving a fire verse on clapping back against the haters. The catchy bop serves as the title track of PSY 9TH, his 9th studio album.

LOVE ME MORE – SAM SMITH

Sam Smith has been known to release heartbreak anthems. But this time, the musician looks to the self for love. Love Me More is a candid introspection of Sam’s relationship with themselves on a journey of self-discovery and happiness. Their vocals are both moving and uplifting, the kind of song to listen to when trying to move on.

WITH YOU – JIMIN AND HA SUNGWOON

BTS’s Jimin and Ha Sungwoon have teamed up for a new song called With You, which serves as the OST for K-drama Our Blues. The beautiful ballad sees the two vocalists express heartfelt desire and being with that special someone. Jimin’s airy voice shines as usually and matches well with Ha Sungwoon’s.

PIT A PAT – BINI

With Pit A Pat, BINI really gave us a summer bop and a women’s empowerment anthem at the same time. Their summer single sees the girl group assert that the heart must beat louder for one’s dreams and that no man will be the one to save them. The dreamy electro-pop track features tropical beats and a symphonic rhythm as it implores its listeners to keep headstrong through life’s obstacles and distractions. With a new single, an impressive stage at Summer Blast in the Philippine Arena, and a TikTok Live meet/concert, BINI is definitely having a fun summer.

HONEST – JUSTIN BIEBER AND DON TOLIVER

After initially teasing us with the lighthearted I Feel Funny, Justin Bieber dropped his brand new song with Don Toliver called Honest. Punchy and up-tempo, the track sees Justin in a more hip-hop sound as he sings about appreciating the honesty from his partner.

The final week of April 2022 was an eventful one for Anji Salvacion. Not only did she hold her very first solo digital concert, but she also dropped her debut EP Kasingkasing Dalampasigan. The six-track EP takes the listener on a personal journey of Anji’s as she sings about love, heartbreak, moving on, family, and loss.

LIE AGAIN – GIVEON

While most couples who experience cheating usually make it for the exits, that doesn’t apply for Giveon’s new song Lie Again. In it, the musician asks his partner to lie to him about how he’s the only one in her life and no one else. From Giveon’s POV, he loves her so much that he’s willing to live in a lie to be happy. Giveon’s vocals are on-point once more while the music production is exquisite.

LOVE – MONSTA X

MONSTA X and love songs fit together like those last two pieces of a puzzle. And with their latest comeback, LOVE, the group once again deliver a banger that going to be on repeat for a while. The song features a distinct R&B and hip-hop sound that suits it so well. The track is so smooth and reminds us of the R&B hits of the 90s and 2000s. MONSTA X also released a new EP called SHAPE OF LOVE filled with six new songs, and that’s on top of their recently held in-person fan event over the weekend.

The track is full of summer vibes and serves as the official lead single off Khalid’s third studio album which is due out later this year.

MAYBE YOU’RE THE PROBLEM – AVA MAX

Ava Max has no time for her trifling ex with her new song Maybe You’re The Problem. The 80s retro synth pop song sees the pop star call out her ex for trying to gaslight her and point out that maybe he was the reason why the relationship did not work out. The song will have you moving and shading that ex of yours.

SEE YOU SOON – BEABADOOBEE

As we get ever so closer to the release of Beabadoobee’s new album, the musician recently dropped the second single off the album called See you Soon. According to Bea, she wrote the track after she tripped on ’shrooms and wanted to make a song that reflected her experience. She succeeded on that front with the sound’s euphoric vibe and hints of Y2K influences.

HEAVEN – CALUM SCOTT

Calum Scott’s new single Heaven is a ballad about the love between two people being so powerful that nothing else compares to it. Its mix of soulful piano work, luminous strings, and elegantly swinging drumbeats, as well as Calum’s vocals, making for a moving track.

IT IS WHAT IT IS – JAMIE MILLER

Jamie Miller dropped his debut EP recently called Broken Memories. The six-track EP clocks in at just over 16 minutes, but it does get its point across with its songs about love and heartbreak.

C.I.T.T (CHEES IN THE TRAP) – MOONBYUL

Moonbyul is a woman in love in her latest solo single C.I.T.T. The song sees the Mamamoo member unleash her inner rock star as the pop-rock track expresses her feelings trying to get someone to fall in love with her. It’s a cute song where see Moonbyul’s more playful and fun side.

DRIVE – MIYEON

G(I)DLE’s Miyeon is the latest member of the group to release solo music with the drop of her debut EP MY. Drive serves as the lead single and its bouncy pop sound shines as Miyeon’s dreamy voice complements the track’s uplifting message of finding and discovering yourself.

For those who have been following the P-pop scene, this debut has been a long-time coming. And finally, P-pop girl group DIONE has made their official debut with the release of their single, Bling Bling. Chaz Bear, also known as Toro y Moi, recently dropped his latest album called MAHAL. The 13-track project centers on a message of how media and technology has shaped the way human connection is established. It showcases inspiration from 1960s and 70s psychedelic rock to 1990s post-rock, taking listeners on an auditory expedition as if they’re riding in the back of Bear’s Filipino jeepney that adorns the album’s cover.

SUMMER TO THE MAX – ALAMAT AND LITZ

Yes, this is a commercial for Viva Max. But the fact that the song is the first time that Alamat and LITZ have joined forces for a song together warrants it a mention. Hopefully next time, we can see these two groups on an original song, because it would kill.
