The P-pop kings are back at it again as SB19 made another remarkable feat after securing yet another spot on the Billboard charts. This time, it’s for their comeback track GENTO, which proved to be a golden offering after earning a place on the World Digital Song Sales chart. Are we still going to be surprised?

TO GREATER HEIGHTS

SB19 started the month of May on quite a high note ushering in their new PAGTATAG! era, with a slew of fresh and exciting things to look forward to, new music and world tour included.  And the P-pop sensations ended the month with a bang too as their comeback and now viral track GENTO landed on the top 8 spot of Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales Chart.

This is the first for SB19 to be included in one of the top spots of the said chart, which tracks the week’s most popular downloaded songs and are “ranked by sales data” from data provider Luminate. These data are compiled from music retailers that represent 90% of the United States’ music retail market which include sample information from music stores, direct-to-consumer transactions, and Internet sales (online sales of physical albums and digital downloads).

GENTO, which dropped last May 19 and is part of SB19’s upcoming siz-track EP PAGTATAG!, sits on the chart proudly as the only Pinoy track in the top 10 spots alongside K-pop groups like ENHYPEN (Bite Me), (G)I-DLE (Queencard), and Fifty Fifty (Cupid). Calm Down, a pop song by Nigerian singer Rema and Selena Gomez currently leads the chart as of writing.

SB19 is not new to appearing on the Billboard charts. In 2021, Pablo, Josh, Ken, Justin, and Stell made a couple of historic victories as the first Filipino act to top Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs Chart, beating K-pop superstars BTS’ Butter with their upbeat anthem, Bazinga. Not only that, Bazinga also once became the longest-running number one song on the said chart after claiming the spot for seven consecutive weeks. Last year, Billboard casually posted SB19’s WYAT dance tutorial on TikTok, a testament to the great impact of the kings of P-pop.
