Apart from the cold breeze, parties, the parol, and Jose Mari Chan’s music, you know that it’s the Christmas season already if you can already see people selling puto bumbong and bibingka. These Filipino delectable desserts, which can usually be found in the streets outside churches, fairs, or bazaars during the holiday season and are curiously hard to find in other times, have become a tradition of Filipinos every December and a staple of Filipino Catholics who go on simbang gabi.

And for their most recent offering, top Filipino vloggers and Gen Z influencer-siblings Ranz Kyle and Niana Guerrero take on the challenge of being puto bumbong and bibingka sellers for one night. How did they fare in the task, you ask? Let’s look at some of the highlights.

PREPARATION

This is not the first time that Ranz and Niana do this kind of challenge. In their past vlog, they made their own mini food stalls at home where they competed with each other to make the most money. This time, they’re back in the game, as sellers of puto bumbong and bibingka, which turn out to be Niana’s favorites. And it’s quite a big task, as their stall is located in front of the church and in the middle of simbang gabi season. So, they need preparations and that they do, seeking the help of the real vendor and satiating Ranz, Niana, and our curiosity of how our favorite desserts are made.

DANCER-SELLER

The game is on and Ranz and Niana do all that they can to be the first to sell out. Niana uses her dancing skills to entice customers and it does work to her favor. She even teaches a group of patrons, who are coincidentally practicing for a performance, how to dance in a cute and sweet interaction.

FAN SUPPORT

The influencers that Ranz and Niana are, it’s hard not to get starstruck by them. Their little stall has quickly gathered a crowd of customers, with some fans taking photos with them and others just happy to get a moment with their idols.

RANZ’S LUTANG MOMENT

Ranz saying he forgot to add coconut to his customers' orders

At some point, a customer comes back to the stall and tells Ranz and Niana that their order doesn’t have grated coconut with it, which we know is a big no-no especially for a bibingka. It’s a funny lutang moment for Ranz who is carried away and realizes that he’s forgotten to add the grated coconut to his other customers.

SOLD OUT

Eventually, Ranz and Niana’s stint as vendors proves to be a success as both of their products sold out. But Niana beats his kuya this time whose charisma and dance skills help her earn more than him. And celebrating the season of giving, Niana and Ranz give all their earnings to the OG owners of the stall and urge their viewers to support all the puto bumbong and bibingka sellers this holiday season.
