Even when far from home and busy conquering the world, Moira dela Torre does not fail to satisfy her Pinoy fans who crave for her soul-nourishing and wound-healing music. Just recently, the hugot hitmaker dropped a new track that’s excitingly refreshing. For those longtime Moira stans, you’d know that the singer-songwriter has a thing with mellow ballads that tug at our heartstrings and remind us of that wondrous thing called love. But eme, her latest single, seems to be coming from a different and more defiant place. This time, the hugot is much braver.

ANG KAPAL NG MUKHA MO

When Moira dela Torre released the heartbreaking ikaw at sila earlier this year, it marked a distinct comeback from the musician who, from sharing with us the joys of being in love, took us with her in a painful journey following a love that was. And now with eme, it looks like Moira’s not just going to merely wallow in sadness and regret with her new music, she’s also standing up and taking the courage to tell that person who hurt her how ultimately, he’s not worth it.

Ang kapal ng mukha mo / Wala na ngang tayo / Ba’t parang ‘di pwedeng lumaya? / Wala naman akong kasalanan.” Don’t be fooled by the seeming triviality of the song’s title because eme sure packs an emotional punch that, weirdly, is so satisfying. Written by Moira dela Torre herself, eme is the ideal song for you to sing if you want to vent your rage freely about that someone who only loved you in the good times and betrayed you in the end. From the verses that lament wrong decisions and failed promises to a searing chorus that surely won’t make “him” sleep to THAT glorious bridge where Moira goes all out with the feels, eme’s message is clear: “‘Di na papaloko ulit.”

In other words, eme is like, as one fan describes it, a passionate slap in the face in music form. And to be honest, they deserve it. “Dahil ang daming nakapaligid sa akin na sobrang mabubuting tao, sobrang na-empower ako gumawa ng kantang ganito,” Moira dela Torre said during her world tour kick-off show at the Araneta Coliseum last February 3, 2023. It was there where she first performed eme alongside other unreleased tracks Red Flags and Rewritten Vows, which are all equally brave and hurtful. eme is the fifth track in Moira’s upcoming album that’s coming out real soon.

Almost the same time as eme came out, Moira dela Torre also wrapped up the international leg of her world tour. And as expected, it was quite a successful feat. Apart from sold-out shows after sold-out shows, Moira also made history as the first Filipina to hold a concert at Canada Life Centre, a premier sports and entertainment venue in Winnipeg city that’s got over 16,000 seats. Oh and to the Cebuano fans, prepare to get your hearts broken as the hugot queen is also set to make a comeback concert on May 1, 2023.
