Believe it or not, there’s a little over a week left until Christmas Day. And here we are thinking that we made our New Year’s resolution just yesterday. With one of the most important holiday’s of the year fast approaching, that means Christmas songs are about to be played 24/7, as if they aren’t already. But before that rush of Christmas tunes comes, there are also new non-holiday songs that have recently dropped that are worth the listen. So, get your playlists ready if you’re looking for a break from the Christmas songs.

HOMETOWN – SPONGE COLA

It’s been a busy week for Sponge Cola fans. First the band celebrated their 20th anniversary with a  special concert. And now, they have a new song out called Hometown that takes inspiration from the K-drama  Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha. Combining grunge rock elements with electronic textures and anthemic pop sensibilities, Sponge Cola’s Hometown is a song for coming home after a long, tiring journey. It’s a perfect description that sums up their collective feelings at the moment. The captivating rock tune reimagines the quite coastal town from the show in the form of a person as a symbol of where home can be.

NOTHING IS LOST (YOU GIVE ME STRENGTH) – THE WEEKND

In case you didn’t know, the long-awaited Avatar 2 is finally out in theaters. And because of that, we have a new The Weeknd track called Nothing Is Lost, which serves as part of the OST of the movie. The four-and-a-half minute track moves away from the pop-synth that The Weeknd is known for and instead delivers a rousing and anthemic track complete with chants from the Na’vi. It feels quite empowering to listen to.

NYEBE – SB19

After months of hearing the song on their live stages, we finally have an official release for SB19’s Nyebe. The track, which means snow in Tagalog, is a ballad that captures the complicated feelings of warmth, longing, and sadness. Life isn’t easy, but as the track and the group’s vocals has us believe, those negativities will all melt away.

BEAUTIFUL CHRISTMAS – RED VELVET AND AESPA

Okay, so we may have room for new Christmas tunes if it’s this good. Red Velvet and aespa join forces as full groups for the very first time to spread holiday cheer with Beautiful Christmas. The upbeat track is what a happy holiday sounds and feels like bottled in song form. It’s catchy and invites the listener to enjoy the season.

AVO TOAST – CLINTON KANE

Clinton Kane serves yet another heartbreaking bop with Avo Toast. It’s an upbeat and acoustic tune that masks the pain of a story of how Clinton doesn’t want his relationship to end and for his significant other to be patient with him.

ESSENTIAL OILS – KAKIE AND FERN.

Essential Oils is an essential listen for people who want to be treated to some sensual vocals. Kakie and Fern sound so good together as trade verses on a track that’s so smooth on the ears.

DESPECHA REMIX – ROSALIA AND CARDI B

How it took this long for a Cardi B and Rosalia collab to come, we don’t know. But it’s finally here and with the Despacha remix featuring the female rapper Cardi is a great addition to the remix as she fits in with that Latin party vibe very well, both in her rap verse and singing.

CELEBRATE – SUPER JUNIOR

Pinoy Elfs have a lot to celebrate this December. While the group once cancelled concert in Manila earlier this year, they are back again, and this time, their Super Show 9 will be two days long. And speaking of, fans can also look forward to the release of their new song, Celebrate. It’s a wholesome and upbeat track that feels right at home for the Christmas season, or any season really.
