It’s only the start of August yet it’s already been busy days for the music industry. For starters, Swifties are currently in a month long holiday. TXT and J-Hope had exceptional sets at Lollapalooza. Also in the realm of festivals was the MIK Festival in London, which was the first ever outdoor K-pop festival in Europe. BLACKPINK and SB19 teased their upcoming comebacks while Ben&Ben and Pamungkas revealed the first details of the projects they did together.

Speaking of, BGYO shared that they had something special in the works that’s coming soon. RUN BTS is making a return while ISAC saw its comeback after a two-year hiatus. Beabadoobee is heading to Manila this September for her first ever concert in the country while Conan Gray is going to Korea to perform on The Show and be interviewed by Red Velvet’s Wendy. Finally, Lady Gaga announced that she was officially joining Joker 2. And while all this went down, a flurry of new songs dropped this week that you need to know about, because you can never be too prepared when someone hands you the aux chord. Consider these following new songs for your next playlist session.

FOREVER 1 – GIRLS’ GENERATION

SONEs, it’s time to rejoice. After five years, Girls’ Generation have finally made their long awaited comeback. And even after all these years, the group is here to say that they will still be here with us, 15 years and counting. Title track FOREVER 1 is a bombastic and bright pop song meant to encapsulate how they aren’t going nowhere anytime soon. It also sends its appreciation to fans who’ve waited for years for their return. The music video also tugs at the heartstrings because it showcases what the members have been up to since before they all come together. With over 10 new songs in this album, it feels so good for Girls’ Generation to be back.

BAD DECISIONS – BENNY BLANCO, BTS, AND SNOOP DOGG

BTS’ vocal line, aka Jungkook, V, Jimin, and Jin, bring to life this groovy bop from benny blanco about getting into a little trouble with that special someone. Snoop Dogg comes in with his signature bars to round up this fun number.

HIGH SCHOOL IN JAKARTA – NIKI

NIKI has always been great in telling stories in her music and that talent is on full display in her latest single, High School in Jakarta. The introspective and chill track sees the young musician look back on her high school days and her many adventures.

OBSESSED – CALVIN HARRIS, CHARLIE PUTH, AND SHENSEEA

Calvin Harris’ latest album, Funk Wav Bounce Vol. 2 is finally out and is 14 songs that scream ready for the dance floor. The funk and the bounce are very much present thanks to a classroom’s worth of A-list collaborators and Calvin’s top-tier production.

BEACH HOUSE – CARLY RAE JEPSEN

Carly Rae Jepsen is set to drop her new album, THE LONELIEST TIME, this October 21. And while the wait is long, she made it a bit more bearable by dropping a new song called Beach House. The track sees the Canadian singer return to her pop roots in a song about how finding love is not easy.  

UNDANGON TA NI – MORISSETTE

Bisaya representation takes center stage in Morissette’s new single, the funky Undangon Ta Ni. The title and most of the lyrics are in Bisaya, which is about Morissette that her ex isn’t worth her time.

ALL SHE WANNA DO – JOHN LEGEND AND SAWEETIE

John Legend and Saweetie team up to bring the dance, dance, dance with their collab, All She Wanna Do. The disco groove makes for a fun listen with John giving his signature vocals and Saweetie’s raps and singing complementing the production well.

HOVER LIKE A GODDESS – WILLOW

Rock, love, and vibes come together in WILLOW’s hover like a GODDESS. The energy is strong in this track about the desire to be with that special person. The song serve’s as her first single off her new album, CopingMechanism, set to drop on September 24. Expect that to be another emo and pop-punk explosion of angst.

SMARTPHONE – YENA

Former Iz*One member Yena goes 2-0 with her solo releases with her latest single SMARTPHONE and EP of the same name. The fun and catchy tune fits her vibe very well.

STRANGER – LAUV

The first week of August is an exciting one for fans of Lauv as the musician finally dropped his third studio album, All 4 Nothing. Anytime Lauv releases new music is always good time and 13 brand new songs are just waiting to be explored.

MIXTAPE: TIME OUT – STRAY KIDS

Stray Kids channeled the essence of a fun summer day into their new song, Time Out. The rock driven track is all about leaving all your worries behind you and have the time of your life.
