NYLON Manila’s 3rd year has been all about the new: new directions, a new team, and new stories. Let’s look back at some of our favorite moments.

NYLON Manila celebrates its 3rd year this November, and we simply can’t let the month pass by without recapping some of our favorite moments in 2023. We’re a platform dedicated to telling the biggest, boldest, and bravest stories relevant to generation now, cultivating identity, and encouraging conversation with engaging media and narratives, and this year has been all about that.
Some of our favorite things about NYLON Manila in 2023 is, of course, being a part of it. Above all else, an overarching theme for us has been change, starting at the top with a new Editor-in-Chief, Ayn Bernos, and a new home at the West Wing Estancia Offices. It includes the creative freedom, the opportunities presented, and the people we meet.
New members of the team have also been opened to a whole new world of media. For instance, for Multimedia Artist Gelo Quijencio, “many doors have opened especially with my creative craft.” Social Media Associate Shane Sy says that her favorite part is “being able to do what I love and working with the best team anyone could ever ask for.” Beauty writer Precy Tan also cited the work environment and the team as some of the best things about NYLON Manila. “Work doesn’t feel like work when you’re surrounded by people who make it fun.
All our favorite moments build up to an experience that’s totally new in all its challenges and wonders. Having had a busy year, we couldn’t just choose a few single moments, so here’s a rundown of some of the year’s highlights (so far) that represented who we and this generation truly are.
WITNESSING THE BREAKING OF NEW GROUND
From having the newly-debuted global group HORI7ON on our cover to chatting with members of the cast of the Hamilton International Tour (which debuted in Asia with its Philippine run), seeing the openings of huge brands like HUGO and GENTLEMONSTER, sharing stories of new adventures, new endeavors, and new legacies, NYLON Manila was right there witnessing the breaking of new ground in music, fashion, beauty, and pop culture.
BIG, BOLD, AND BRAVE AWARDS 2023
Big Bold Brave Awards: We’re H3re commenced last February 27th—a celebration of the biggest, boldest, and bravest standouts in pop culture, fashion, and beauty. After a voting period where YOU got to choose who won awards like Favorite P-pop Group, Favorite Pop Culture Moment, and Fearless Internet Clapback, plenty of winners were awarded and everyone got to party all night at CLUBHOUSE MNL.

Gen Z is not beating the avid partygoer allegations! Besides the BBB Awards, NYLON Manila hosted the hottest, freshest parties and events of the year—Careline’s 18th birthday, Halloween kick-off NYLON Manila Year 3000—and co-presented a special awarding ceremony with a “New Wave of Women to Watch” with Avon Philippines.
Event guests included celebs, creators, and artists alike. Niana Guerrero, P-pop groups like BINI, BGYO, Alamat, G22, VXON, and Yes My Love, Zack Tabudlo, Lady Morgana, Josh Cullen, Pia Wurtzbach, Mimiyuuuh, Vivoree, A-Team, and so many more!
DONBELLE’S FANZINE COVER
Can you say it-couple? In one of NYLON Manila’s biggest, boldest productions yet, the DonBelle loveteam composed of superstars Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano graced the cover of our special June Independence Day print fanzine issue. Clad in bright colors, peak Gen Z style, DonBelle exuded total main character energy.
SEATED WITH NYLON MANILA
This year also saw the launch of our first podcast, Seated with NYLON Manila, featuring conversations with your favorite stars like Nadine Lustre, RINI, Vivoree Esclito and Kaori Oinuma, and HORI7ON. AMPLIFYING VOICES
The NYLON Manila team is made up of Gen Z kids ourselves—and here, we continue to emphasize the loud, proud Gen Z voice here at NYLON Manila, tackling issues near and dear to the hearts of the proactive, advocacy-focused generation. From personal stories of growth or inspiration to larger issues related to queerness or climate justice, the stories we love to tell champion this generation’s diverse identities and the causes we fight for.
