This past week hasn’t been easy for some of us. There’s definitely a lot to process with all that’s happening in the world. It’s alright if you’ve been logging off for a bit, we all deserve the rest. But just in case you’ve been missing out, here’s just some that you may have missed in the world of music.

For starters, BTS revealed the track list to their upcoming 48 song long new album. At three CDs long, it’s hefty and it includes an entire set filled with demos, as well as the long awaited official release of Tony Montana featuring Jimin. GOT7 also finally announced that they are making their long-awaited comebacl on May 23 with a new EP and title track Nanana.

TREASURE dropped the remixed version of DARARI while NCT Dream announced their repackaged version of their Glitch Mode album. K-pop soloist AleXa became the first winner of American Song Contest and is set to become the first 4th gen K-pop act to perform at the BBMAs. G(I)-DLE announced that they’re holding a concert in the Philippines this September while Zack Tabudlo got to hangout with LANY, and maybe even teased a possible collab. Finally, former SNSD member Jessica Jung got SNSD twitter talking when she dropped her new fictional book that some say is more real than it is described. Also, there’s nothing like good music to help you re-energize. So, take a listen at our picks of some of the best new songs of the week.

THE HEART PART 5 – KENDRICK LAMAR

It’s a busy week for Kendrick Lamar as the acclaimed rapper kicked things off with a timely new song called The Heart Part 5. He then ends the week by dropping his new studio album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. We’re very much here for this new Kendrick music since it’s been over five years since his last album. And at over one hour and 13 minutes long, there’s a lot to get into with the new LP.

KUMPAS – MOIRA DELA TORRE

Moira Dela Torre makes her return to recording solo music with her new single Kumpas. As expected, the track gives us all the feels we need. But what makes it special is that not only does it serve as the official soundtrack of 2 Good 2 Be True, but she wrote it specifically with the real-life love story of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla in mind.

COOPED UP – POST MALONE AND RODDY RICCH

Say what you want about Post Malone, but there’s no denying that he knows how to make songs that scratch that itch in your brain. And with his latest release, Cooped Up featuring Roddy Ricch, he gives us a song high on vibes with a smooth melody.

GOOD BOY GONE BAD – TOMORROW X TOGETHER

At this point, TXT can proudly claim the title of 4th Gen emo kings after the release of their anticipated latest comeback, Good Boy Gone Bad. The rock-heavy song sees the group channel their inner bad boy once more as they get disillusioned with love. Though despite the hard hitting sound of the title track, the accompanying EP, Thursday’s Child, is surprisingly mellow thanks to songs like the moving Trust Fund Baby.

MAHIKA – ADIE AND JANINE BERDIN

Did someone say wholesome love song? Because that is what Adie and Janine Berdin are serving with their new collab, Mahika. And the song title suggests, the track is magical as the two musicians lay it down in a way that tugs on our heartstrings. Bonus points for the cute pixelated cover art.

CASINO – RIVERMAYA

Something must be in the water this second week of May because the iconic bands of our childhood are making a return. Case in point, Rivermaya recently dropped their first single in six years called Casino. The vintage, disco-punk stomper deals with a love affair that instantly blossomed into a serendipitous, all-in romance.

THE FOUNDATIONS OF DECAY – MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE

Speaking of comebacks, My Chemical Romance decided to mark their return to music making in over eight years with the surprise release of the song, The Foundations Of Decay. Given how long the band has been gone, the track is a nostalgic blast for many MCR fans with its six minutes of epic hard emo rock. The release comes just in time as the band is preparing for their long awaited reunion tour.   

KUPIDO – ARTHUR MIGUEL

While the song title and cover art may have you think that Arthur Miguel’s new song is all about fluttering love, it isn’t. It actually is about moving on as Arthur brings to life a story of breaking up and hoping that Cupid could give the couple another chance. It’s like getting hurt but in a wholesome way.

ME MYSELF & I – 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER

5 Seconds of Summer continue their era of new music with their latest single Me Myself & I. The track focuses on a relationship gone wrong but the band puts the blame on themselves as they’ve know entered a life on their own.  

LARO – JANINE TENOSO

Don’t you just hate those kind of relationships where the other side is just not being serious enough for things to work. Janine Tenoso sure does and that’s the story for her new song LARO. In it, she chides a certain someone for treating their relationship like a game instead of committing into it fully. Her voice sounds amazing on the song and the ending just hits at all the right parts.  

TRIGGER – CLAUDIA

Claudia Barretto is coming in hot with the beats and the vibes with her new song Trigger. The bouncy track, which makes us feel like we’re in a high fashion music video, sees the young musician sing about wanting to make things serious with a potential flame.  

BTBT – B.I, SOULJA BOY, AND DEVITA

B.I streak of serves remain unbroken with the release of his new single BTBT. The track is a reference to the Korean word biteul biteul which means staggering. It reflects the song’s message of how love can feel overwhelming at times when you really make a push for it. With an atmospheric vibe, addicting bass, and a moving rhythm, B.I delivers a lovely song. And it is further elevated with the help of Soulja Boy and rising singer DeVita. BTBT serves as a pre single to his upcoming LOVE OR LOVED [L.O.L]  global album.

FACTS – RAMENGVRL AND ASIATIC.WAV

Indonesian female rapper extraordinaire Ramengvrl is here to have a good time with her new song FACTS. The hip-hop song is a lighthearted take on how hard life can get and just taking things one step at a time. It serves as the lead single from asiatic.wav volume. 1, an upcoming EP featuring exciting up-and-coming acts from Asia.

BY MY SIDE – TAEYEON

Get the tissues ready because Taeyeon is going straight for the heart in her new song By My Side. Part of the OST for Our Blues, the acoustic driven track sees the K-pop idol sing about cherishing the memories of a relationship that is slowly fading. Taeyeon’s voice is immaculate and really brings out the emotion of the song.
