The Yuletide season is among us once again. And along the Christmas lights-covered streets is an air of love that is at the center of the holiday festivities. Past all the material items during Christmas is the feeling of love and togetherness that we’re always down to celebrate. But sadly, most people assume this love means the romantic kind, hence the question of why you are still single reaching an all-time high. This can get especially annoying when you go to family get-togethers and your titos and titas ask you if you have no significant other.
Don’t get us wrong, we aren’t demonizing couples. There’s nothing wrong with being in a relationship during this time. Go be happy with that special someone. But, the issues arises when people make it a big deal that you don’t have someone during the season. Being told that Christmas isn’t complete without a special someone can make you feel like the Grinch. But really, being single during this festive time is not a curse, but a blessing in disguise as being alone doesn’t automatically entail a bitter Christmas. Instead, it’s more than okay to bask in the glow of singlehood as you walk about doing your Christmas shopping. There are reasons to not feel blue if you’re aren’t in one at the moment. Here’s why it’s actually jolly to be single during the holidays.
MORE TIME (AND MONEY) FOR YOURSELF
While all Mariah Carey wants for Christmas is you, we want some much-deserved me time. It’s the end of the year, which means you can give that quality time and money to treat yourself. Use this time to reflect on the year and giving yourself a treat for all that you’ve done. We’re getting self-care this Christmas so we can be rejuvenated for the New Year.
NO EXPECTATIONS TO MEET
Christmas is a busy time, especially if you’re in a relationship. But singlehood allows people to operate without having to think about that one person constantly or be tethered to them. There’s no need to meet the expectations of your jowa if you don’t have any. You don’t have to deal with the anxiety of being a major reason why a person will enjoy their Christmas. Stressing and panicking is not on the itinerary this holiday.
MORE ROOM TO GIFT PEOPLE
The gift you give to your significant other can be anxiety-inducing and costly for some. It could even make or break a relationship. But being single means that there isn’t any pressure on gifting that special someone. Instead, you can use that money to gift more people, such as your friends, family, and other people you hold dear. Your gift list won’t be dominated by finding that perfect gift for your partner, which in turn means less worry of impressing that one person.
EASIER TIME TO ENJOY EVENTS
Single life allows you to be free to enjoy any and every party you attend without having to think about the consequences of spending time away from your significant other. Now, turn off that phone (for now) and go have some fun.
MORE TRIPS WITH FRIENDS
Christmas is a busy time for meet-ups, gatherings, events, and parties with invitations coming left and right. But being in a relationship will compel you to say consider the time of your special someone. Since there’s no one like that in your life though, you’re more than free to say yes to that hangout, lunch, or out-of-town trip.
