From near disbandment to P-pop kings, SB19 has reached that point in their careers where even OPM stars are singing their songs.

If you turn back time to just a few years ago, SB19 was in a different place. Seen as just another group, rarely respected, and essentially operating on the sidelines of the OPM scene, things were looking bleak then. But thanks to a string of viral hits, phenomenal performances, and sold-out concerts, SB19 not only stands at the top of the P-pop scene, but they can stand alongside their OPM contemporaries as well.

And you know you’ve made it in the industry when your songs are performed by some of the biggest names in industry. That’s something SB19 can relate to. Over the past year, quite a few local stars have turned to SB19’s songs to perform on TV or their concerts.

Here then are some moments when local celebrities gave their spin on SB19’s biggest hits.

REGINE VELASQUEZ

Asia’s Songbird performing with the P-pop kings? A moment to remember. On a September 2022 episode of ASAP, SB19 made their return to the show’s stage. Joining them was none other than Regine Velasquez where together, they did a duet version of Hanggang Sa Huli. Regine slayed as usual, but SB19 made sure to keep up and complement the OPM icon’s singing prowess. The best part is that you can tell the mutual admiration they had for each other as they sang.

HANNAH PRECILLAS AND JESSICA VILLARUBIN

Ate, slayed, devoured, tour, chewed, bodied, and all that. What more can we say? There’s a reason why this performance was the talk of social media for a while. Hannah Precillas and Jessica Villarubin did what needed to be done with their cover of Hanggang Sa Huli in All-Out Sundays on GMA. The vocals were an 11/10, and you could feel the emotion from every word they sang. It gave us goosebumps.

ANNE CURTIS

Here’s something you don’t see every day. During Anne’s comeback concert, Luv-Anne, she surprised the crowd by singing SB19’s MAPA, a song that no doubt has a special meaning to her given how close she is to her parents. Anne then brought the group to the stage as the superstars performed the track together. Considering how Anne went from tweeting that she liked the song to her performing it with the actual artist, that was a full-circle moment.

KEN CHAN, MIGUEL TANFELIX, KHALIL RAMOS, BUGOY DRILON, DARYL ONG, JULIE ANNE SAN JOSE, JON LUCAS, RODJUN CRUZ, MANNEX MANHATTAN

All-Out Sundays made sure to, well, go all out in this three-part SB19 extravaganza performance. In part one, Ken Chan, Miguel Tanfelix, and Khalil Ramos sang MAPA. Part two had Bugoy Drilon, Daryl Ong, and Julie Anne San Jose bring the energy with their rendition of Go Up. And as the closer, Jon Lucas, Rodjun Cruz, and Mannex Manhattan delivered a dance performance to an EDM remix of Go Up. All in all, all nine artists did a pretty good job. It honestly puts things into perceptive when you think of how SB19 went from having small mall shows to some of GMA’s biggest young stars performing their tracks.

KYLE ECHARRI, JEREMY GLINOGA, AND SHEENA BELARMINO

ASAP made the right decision to bring these three together for a cover of Bazinga because they positively bodied it. Jeremy’s opening, Kyle’s raps, and Sheena’s high notes were all puzzle pieces that came together perfectly.

BEN&BEN

Two of OPMs biggest bands come together for this emotional yet feel-good take on MAPA. For a while, fans have hoped and even speculated that an SB19 X Ben&Ben collab was happening. But what we didn’t expect was that Ben&Ben would be reworking SB19’s MAPA for a rendition that’s both new yet familiar. MAPA (Band Version) combines the best of both groups emotionally, lyrically, and sonically.

ASAP DIVAS

When you have the likes of Angeline Quinto, Zsa Zsa Padilla, and Gigi de Lana sing SB19’s songs, expect a show. And that’s what happened when the ASAP Divas came together for their cover of MAPA and Hanggang Sa Huli. As you can expect, the vocals were there, and all these fierce females did a good job. At this point, MAPA and Hanggang Sa Huli are pretty much birit favorites, and we don’t mind that at all.

SHEENA BELARMINO

Sheena Belarmino has been constantly praised as one of the new generation of musicians to watch out for. Her cover of SB19’s Bazinga is proof of that. While the vocals impressed, were blown away by how she killed Josh and Pablo’s raps.

ANTHONY CASTILLO

MAPA holds a special place in the hearts of many thanks to its touching focus on the family. And one of the best covers to bring that out is when Anthony Castillo performed it during the Tawag Ng Tanghalan finals in 2021. Surrounded by family pictures, Anthony brought the vocals and emotions as he channeled the track’s energy to a T. It was a performance so good; the judges gave him a standing ovation.

DENISE JULIA

YouTuber Denise Julia didn’t do too much with her cover of MAPA. But what makes it so good is how her simple take is so effective. Her voice sounds like what a warm hug feels, almost like it’s inviting you to hear what she has to say. It is no surprise then that her cover went viral, racking up over 2.4 million views and counting.

CHLOE REDONDO

With just a piano backing her, former The Voice Teens Philippines and Idol Philippines season two contestant Chloe Redondo knew exactly what she was doing on this cover of MAPA. Her voice was so powerful yet smooth as silk as each line came out crisper than a potato chip. She even got us a bit misty-eyed when she flashed pictures of her parents during the cover.
