Whenever it’s summer, most people usually think of fun in the sun and the time to show some skin. For some, the summer season is the perfect time to flaunt the body they’ve worked hard on. But for others, summer can be a period of insecurity, especially around places like the beach or pool. They may not be comfortable showing off their bodies or are afraid to be made fun of. This is why, this summer, your fave Kapamilya stars are here to remind you that you can have fun while still loving all types of bodies. As part of Star Magic’s 30th anniversary, the talent management arm of ABS-CBN has launched a series of programs and projects to highlight the hot summer season, as well as celebrate diversity and empowerment.

HOT SUMMER IN BALER

Up first is the digital series Hot Summer. This video series follows a gaggle of Star Magic artists on a photoshoot and other adventures in Baler and the surrounding areas. The stars featured in Hot Summer include a mix of established faces, as well as new stars, such as Heaven Peralejo, Maureen Wroblewitz, Zach Guererro, Michelle Vito, Eian Rances, Elmo Magalona, Kira Balinger, Brent Manalo, Jane Oineza, Vivoree Esclito, Karina Bautista, Maris Racal, Andrea Brillantes, and Esnyr Ranollo. But Hot Summer isn’t just about following young stars as they have fun in Baler. It also advocates for body positivity and inclusivity as the photoshoot they will partake in is meant to celebrate all types of bodies. Whether you’re curvy, skinny, or anything in between, the summer season is for everyone. The first episode is already out on ABS-CBN Entertainment’s YouTube channel with the rest to follow.

ALEXA ILACAD SLAYS

Alexa Ilacad has always been to advocate for body positivity. In fact, she has bravely opened up about her battles with body dysmorphia. She’s also not afraid to show that curvy girls can make it in the industry. And her latest endeavor sees the young star sizzle while sharing an empowering and body positive message. Recently, Alexa was the inaugural cover girl for SLAY, Star Magic’s first digital video magazine. The magazine is meant to celebrate the beauty and power of women so it’s quite appropriate seeing Alexa be the first cover star.

Alexa looks amazing on the cover and is in one of her fiercest looks yet. But she made sure that she would only do the shoot if there was an empowering aspect to it. Truth be told, she looks great and exudes confidence, which is in itself, inspiring. In the inaugural short film for the video magazine, entitled Goddess Reborn, we see the behind-the-scenes of her shoot as well as the other slaymates Thamara Alexandria, Missy Quiño, Alyssa Exala, and Sharina Villena. They also share personal stories in a new platform where “empowered women empower women.”

If the women can get their own empowering magazine, so too do the guys have their own platform to fight against toxic masculinity. KDLex’s other half, KD Estrada, is also getting his own magazine cover. Recently, it was announced that KD is set to be the first cover star for FLEX, a digital video magazine. The magazine is meant to help end the ever pervasive issue of toxic masculinity. To do so, the magazine while spearhead a new concept called “modern masculinity.” What exactly that is, we’ll have to wait and see. KD has sometimes been described as a green flag by fans thanks to the way he treats Alexa and his gentlemanly ways. So, him being the inaugural cover star is no surprise. We’re looking forward to seeing this new platform to spotlight a “new breed of gentlemen.”
