If you were paying attention to SB19’s career, then you know that the group’s skills and talents are more than worthy of the international stage. 2021 saw them receive increased global recognition, a slew of international and history-making awards, and even snatched their very first international award wins, which came courtesy of winning Best Group and Best Song for Bazinga at the 2021 Channel R Radio Awards. And as we begin 2022 and wait to see what SB19 has to offer for the year, the group decided to start things off with a bit of a bang with their first international music festival performance of 2022.
SB19 x ROUND FESTIVAL
SB19 was included in the lineup for the 2021 ASEAN-Korea Round Festival held on January 9. Round Festival is an international music festival from Korea with the goal of sharing cultures within the ASEAN region. With the theme, Hello to the New Normal, the 2021 edition celebrated pop music throughout the ASEAN region. SB19 had the honor of being the representative of the Philippines and the only Filipino act to perform in the show. And as you can expect, SB19 delivered with a bang.
Dressed in textured white and beige, the boys had a 20-minute set that showcased some of their best songs. They started things of with What?, a fitting song about owning your identity and raising your flag. The group then followed it up with Tilaluha and MAPA, two ballads that beautifully showed off their exceptional vocals. An energetic performance of Bazinga was up next and they closed out their set with the song that put them on the map, Go Up.
SB19 TAKE THE CCP STAGE
We can see that talent is not what’s lacking in Philippine Music, it actually abounds. It’s the resources, the funding and support from the govt. And when its provided, you can see artists like @SB19Official flourishing in their craft. #SB19atROUNDFestival #Bazinga_SB19 pic.twitter.com/A251abj788

Seeing SB19 perform was a treat enough in itself, but it was made even better by the fact that they got to perform at arguably one of their best stages yet. They performed on a stage outside the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), a fitting location not only for the fact that they are sharing Filipino culture to the world, but also because they are the new Youth and Sentro Rizal ambassadors. Having the CCP’s fountain and main driveway light up and even display the colors of the Philippine flag helped make their performance as powerful as it was.
SB19 has always made it clear that they wanted to share and promote Philippine music and culture to the rest of the world, and the fact that they got to perform on KBS, one of Korea’s most popular broadcast channels, showed that they are one step further to achieving that dream. With the Philippine flag flying behind the group during the whole performance, SB19’s set was radiating national pride, as it should.
