If there’s anything to get really excited about after ABS-CBN’s two-day 2022 Christmas Special, it’s the slate of new shows coming next year. It’s quite a diverse lineup to say the least, with offerings that appeal to the cravings of the Filipino audiences, from a new teen-oriented series and a drag-themed show to stories about lies and revenge. And giving the passionate Bubblies another reason to rejoice once more is the announcement that their much-beloved faves Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano will be getting what’s dubbed to be their first-ever teleserye as a love team with Can’t Buy Me Love.
CAN’T BUY ME LOVE ERA
“‘Di ba kapag mahal mo ang isang tao, gagawin mo ang lahat para sa kanila?” With DonBelle bearing the title of this nation’s New Gen Phenomenal Love Team, it’s just fitting that Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano are given the chance to shine even brighter with some deserved and noteworthy projects. And as announced on Sunday (December 18, 2022) by ABS-CBN, with a release of a jam-packed omnibus trailer for its roster of shows in 2023, DonBelle will make us gather around the small screen again with their debut teleserye, Can’t Buy Me Love.
While almost everything about the show is still under wraps, apart from the fact that DonBelle headlines it, we know that Donny and Belle will again capture our hearts as they experiment with that ineffable little thing called love and play with our feelings. This is a given, especially because of the fact that they’ve melted millions of hearts with their hit and two-season-spanning iWantTFC original series He’s Into Her, where DonBelle plays as Deib and Maxpein in a sweet story that turns a cat-and-dog conflict to a blossoming romance.
And remember the success of DonBelle’s first-ever digital movie together last year, Love Is Color Blind, which became KTX.ph’s biggest digital premiere and highest grossing film on its first day of release? Donny and Belle were able to translate the story’s feels and kilig so effectively people felt it and never let go. Plus of course, Star Cinema’s comeback to the theaters recently was made possible thanks to DonBelle’s box office success of a sophomore movie, An Inconvenient Love.
Donny and Belle have deservingly been celebrating a lot of career milestones so far (touring the world and checking off their bucket lists) all because of their palpable, genuine, and exciting sense of chemistry. And their teleserye announcement is their latest achievement. Similar to how the country’s biggest love teams like KathNiel, LizQuen, and JaDine, who have made us scream, cry, laugh, and fall in love with their primetime series, it seems that this generation is ready to have the same television experience with DonBelle and Can’t Buy Me Love.

Twitter user @btsndb_twt has also noticed the show’s namesake, which is a 1987 American teen romantic comedy starring Patrick Dempsey and Amanda Peterson. Named after The Beatles’ track of the same name, it follows the story of nerdy highschooler Ronald Miller (Dempsey) who offers to help cheerleader Cindy Mancini (Peterson) in her plight by paying a thousand dollars for one condition: she will act as though they’re a couple for a month. Will we be getting a similar premise with DonBelle’s Can’t Buy Me Love? Stay tuned to ABS-CBN’s social media page for further announcements.
