Bonjour! Follow Blackpink star and fashion darling, Jisoo, as she gets an unprecedented pass to the inner sanctum of Dior in this special video diary.
Despite the world being plagued by a constant over sharing, there still exist a few seemingly stubborn strongholds leaning in on mystery. Operating in whispers, manifested in a medical-like precision and sterile process, fashion houses bank heavily on secrecy, especially when it comes to the perennially persistent question of: “What’s next for the brand?” History and the imprints of the DNA made public aside, very little is known of the inner sanctum of these high-profile style standards. Behind heavily guarded doors lie a world where the past, present, and possible peacefully coexist in a wash of harsh bright light, white coats, and gloved hands toiling at the next breakthrough. Only a select few get to walk past these hallowed halls and into the belly of where the magic happens, and one of those fortunate few happens to be Blackpink’s Jisoo in her recent trip to the Dior atelier in Avenue Montaigne, Paris.
“In the Dior ateliers, one can have the special experience of discovering the secret stories being the creation of the Dior collection,” says Jisoo ahead of the Dior Spring/Summer 2022 show in Paris. In her exclusive preview of the collection orchestrated with grace and a surprising hint of grit by Maria Grazia Chiuri, Jisoo was living the fashion fairytale as she explored the production floors and the glorious archives. Stepping into the Dior Heritage in Paris, Jisoo explains in the video diary that this is “where you can see the whole history of Dior in one place. I heard that some of Maria Grazia’s pieces are inspired by some pieces in the archives.”
There was certainly a lot that came after she said “bonjour” in Paris.
A History Lesson
From Monsieur Christian Dior’s favorite flower to his Bobby dog, Jisoo was particularly enamored by the handbag archives of Dior in her tour of the atelier in Paris. Here, she was shown the iconic Lady Dior bag in black with the Cannage quilting in leather, which was inducted into fashion history as it famously appeared on the arms of Princess Diana in 1995. “I love this bag,” the Blackpink star gushes, even attempting to walk away with it, in jest of course.
Following this playful moment, Jisoo further educates the viewers on the connection of Christian Dior and Marc Bohan, whose chapter in the story of the French house served as the main inspiration of Maria Grazia Chiuri for the Spring/Summer 2022 collection.
“Marc Bohan introduced the casual style to Dior, which was first famous for haute couture. These efforts made by Marc Bohan carry over years later to Maria Grazia’s collection to make women feel comfortable,” narrates Jisoo in her well-documented trip to Paris. Getting up close with the bows, pleats, and roomy silhouette, which was in itself an act of resistance in the 1960s, Jisoo stood in awe of the bright colors that the designer added to the joie de vivre of Dior over his illustrious 30-year tenure.
I Love You, Paris
Not too long after, Jisoo explored the Spring/Summer 2022 pieces up close together with the current creative director of Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri. Before it was brought to life in the board game-like set that appeared to be straight out of a game show in the swinging 60s. A deliberate choice, the backdrop proved necessary to heighten the visceral quality of the pieces that commanded the runway. Unlike the recent history’s penchant for frothy tulle and sublime gowns, it was predominantly colorful, playful, and comfortable, which Maria Grazia Chiuri guarantees you can dance in.
With just enough retro sensibilities (graphic double-eyeliners and all), the shimmy and shake of the decade was given a more contemporary spin in color-blocked boxy micro-mini dresses, finely fringed numbers, and in a pleasantly surprising addition to the mix, an assemblage of silky boxer robes and shorts that made the presentation more fresh and feisty, fit for the modern woman. “The bright colors and bright elements made this year’s fashion show even more dynamic. When I see the set with the models dressed in all these colors I feel like I’m in a video game,” details Jisoo in the presentation of Dior in Paris. “There were so many beautiful outfits. I loved them all.”
Before bowing out into the night hosted by Dior, the K-pop darling basked in the lights and romance of Paris. “The trip to Paris with Dior was so enjoyable for me and I will never forget that night,” Jisoo punctuates. There were no au revoirs, only saranghae, Paris.
