Lisa honored her roots on the LALISA music video by wearing a hand-embroidered gold Thai outfit by Asava Group.
Pulling off 12 outfit changes, 10 different sets, and concepts for her solo debut, LALISA, Lisa Manoban powers her way into the music scene with her killer bars and hypnotizing stage presence. From the motorcycle scene, pole dancing, to the desert setting reminiscent of Mad Max, Lisa Manoban ticks off all the boxes for an outstanding visceral release in LALISA.
But the real highlight of the music video? The golden set where Lisa stunned in a Thai traditional outfit while sitting pretty on the throne. Upon further research, the Thai outfit was made by Bangkok-based designer Polpat Asavaprapha of ASAVA Group. In his website, the designer was trained at the prestigious Parsons School of Design, has interned with Marc Jacobs, and is currently the president of Bangkok Fashion Society. FROM SKETCH TO REALITY
ASAVA revealed the initial sketches for Lisa’s Thai outfit in one of his recent Instagram posts. It features a long shiny cape in form of a cropped top and a wrapped mini skirt.
Thailand has been known for its ornate and breathtaking traditional outfits and ASAVA did a magnificent job designing this custom look for Lisa. “The costume was designed exclusively for Lisa and was specially made in traditional Thai brocade golden silk,” the caption reads.
The golden look was ASAVA Group’s contemporary take on the traditional Thai dress such as the “breast covering (sa-bai), sarong wrap (zin) and frontal pleats.” Lisa honored her roots not only by rapping the lines “From Thailand to Korea, and now here, went for the throat,” but by actually wearing it for everyone to see.
PEAK THAI ARTISTRY
The result was a jaw-dropping golden dress front and center on the set of LALISA. According to ASAVA Group’s post, it was “delicately woven in metal-treaded ancient patterns from Lamphun Province (Lamphun is a town in Northern Thailand).”
Probably one of the most memorable outfits in K-Pop and Thai history, Lisa proves that she knows her power to educate both fans and casuals of her Thai culture whether it be fashion or music. In case it wasn’t obvious yet, Lisa’s Thai outfit was hand-embroidered and embellished with sparkling Swarovski crystals all over. Definitely fit for royalty.
