In celebration of the release of season five of Money Heist, Netflix has teamed up with four Filipino artists to create paper artwork inspired by some of the most iconic imagery and moments from the show.
After much hype and anticipation, part five of Money Heist has finally been released and it did not disappoint. The new season has gotten us talking with all its twists and turns. But it’s not just viewers who are happy about the show’s return. In honor of Money Heist, Netflix has partnered with four Filipino artists to make stunning paper artwork. Patrick Cabral, Mansy Abesamis, John Ed De Vera, and Sarjit Singh created these artworks as part of the #LaCasaDePapelChallenge and serves as a tribute to some of the greatest and most memorable moments of the show. Aside from the fact that these cool paper artworks are a treat for fans of the show, you can also see the artists’ own style in their pieces. Check them out below.

PATRICK CABRAL – THE ROYAL MINT OF SPAIN
For Patrick, he recreated the Royal Mint of Spain in an eye-catching white design. He chose the Royal Mint of Spain because it symbolizes the enemy, the corrupt system. “I like the juxtaposition of something so powerful with something fragile like paper.” Patrick, who says he got into paper art when he was a kid, likes Money Heist because it has everything he loves in a show. “I feel like this show is more comedy than anything else. There’s always something that’s totally unexpected, and sometimes it’s just crazy.” He adds that his favorite character is The Professor because he can relate to him.
JOHN ED DE VERA – PLAN CHERNOBYL
John’s artwork depicts Plan Chernobyl from Money Heist part 3 as well as the now-iconic Dali Mask and red jumpsuit. “The blimp was used (to release 140 million Euros over Madrid) as a distraction in part three. While the Dali Mask, as we all know, has become an iconic symbol of resistance that has inspired a lot of people to fight with the Professor and the team. The red money coming out of the blimp forms the jumpsuit holding the blimp. The overall visual imagery is my personal homage to surrealism,” said John explaining his work. He adds that he got into paper art when he was in college and loves the show for its premise, opening credits, and soundtrack. He also likes Tokyo and Nairobi, but can relate to The Professor for his personality.
MANSY ABESAMIS – BELLA CIAO AND BANK OF SPAIN
Mansy’s Money Heist-inspired piece depicts two objects, the Dali Mask with the Bella Ciao lyrics and the Bank of Spain. “Bella Ciao is the gang’s battle cry! It unites and makes them stronger as a unit. They’re able to overcome every challenge, every twist, every dead end because of this. And this is even reinforced by the Dali mask and the red jumpsuit—a symbol of resistance against the system. It’s also a great equalizer. It’s a reminder that the thieves and hostages actually want the same thing—to be free from the system.”
If Bella Ciao and the Dali Mask are meant to symbolize resistance, the Bank of Spain represents the system. But in her rendition, Mansy added her own elements to “remind us that no matter how tough, daunting, and impossible to change the systems seem, humans are still the ones who run it. And there’s always something we can do to change the systems in our lives if we want to. It’s in our hands.”
Mansy got into papercutting in 2012 and describes it as a meditative and therapeutic experience. Her style, meanwhile, is self-described as delicate and dainty that’s also playful yet edgy. She also loves Tokyo (she even dressed like her for a street Halloween party) and likes Money Heist because of the new adventures the characters get into despite the limited setting.
SARJIT SINGH – RED ORIGAMI BIRD AND ALICIA’S TEDDY BEAR
Sarjit’s style revolves around Origami art so it’s no surprise that his origami artwork depicts two important objects in Money Heist. The first is The Professor’s red origami bird featured prominently in part 1. The second is Inspector Alicia Sierra’s teddy bear in part three that plays a very important role in that season. As to why he loves the show, Sarjit said, “It always gives me a burst of adrenaline and teases cliffhangers that always turn out exactly as their leader predicted. So the Professor has always been my favorite character because of his brilliant mind.”
Money Heist Part 5 Volume 1 is currently available on Netflix. Money Heist Part 5 Volume 2 streams on December 3.
