ICYDK, October is Museums and Galleries Month, which makes it an even better time to visit your local gallery.
October is a jam-packed month that’s brimming with all sorts of activities. It’s Halloween, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Mental Health Awareness Month just to name a few. But the 10th month of the year is also designated as Museums and Galleries Month as mandated by the national government. Every October is a time dedicated to further celebrating these historical institutions as places of learning, remembrance, and so much more.
While any time is a good time to visit a museum, it gets extra special this month with the activities and events lined up for you. So, if you’re looking for something else to do this October aside from preparing your Halloween costume, take a look at these activities for Museums and Galleries Month.
VISIT A FREE MUSEUM
While most local museums require an entrance fee to enter, this October, those fees have been waived in a win for art and history buffs. Some museums offering free entrance this month include the UST Museum, Manila Clock Tower, Metropolitan Museum of Manila, and the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design. The Yuchengco Museum in Makati, meanwhile, is waving its entrance fee from October 28-31. Free museum date for the weekend? Sounds like a plan. Check out our guide on the many museums in and around the Metro to help you decide where your next museum visit should be.
CHECK OUT THE MANY ACTIVITIES AT THE NATIONAL MUSEUM COMPLEX
While the National Museum Complex in Manila has remained a popular destination for the many cultural and historical treasures it houses, the institution is going all out this month. Aside from the free galleries you can visit, the National Museum is also rolling out a series of activities, events, workshops, seminars, and lectures every week of the month. Also, the events aren’t just kept to the complex in Manila but spread out across different museums in the country. Check out their Facebook page for updates on what they have to offer.
CATCH A JAZZ CONCERT AT THE AYALA MUSEUM
Museums and Galleries Month is turning the Ayala Museum into an even bigger draw with the activities they have planned this month. From music, culture, the arts, and more, the museum has something in store for practically everyone until the end of the month. Standouts include a jazz concert on October 28, a lecture from historian Ambeth Ocampo on October 21, reduced rates for their library, and free admission day. Check out their Facebook page for more information.
