The funny thing about the entertainment industry is that breakthroughs can happen at some of the most unexpected times. Did we see it coming? No. But are we happy it’s here? You bet. Over the past few weeks, the 23-year-old actor has seen his star reach new heights thanks to his fan-favorite role as Snoop in Can’t Buy Me Love

Whether it be his solo moments or viral scenes with Maris Racal’s Irene Tiu, Anthony has been making new fans left and right. Anthony first landed on the showbiz scene when he was introduced as part of the 2019 Star Magic Circle, the same batch as Gillian Vicencio, JC Alcantara, Jeremiah Lisbo, Kyle Echarri, and Can’t Buy Me Love co-star Belle Mariano. Clearly, Anthony is in good company. But even if he’s been in the industry for just a few years, he’s already building an impressive portfolio.

His acting debut? Oh, just Alden Richards’ youngest brother, Eric, in Hello, Love, Goodbye, the highest-grossing Filipino movie in history. No big deal. The young actor would go on to reunite with Kathryn Bernardo as he was cast in The House Arrest of Us. He then made his teleserye debut in 2020’s Make It With You, which starred Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano. The following year, Anthony scored his first MMFF entry as one of the stars of Cathy Garcia-Sampana’s Love At First Stream, which also starred Kaori Oinuma, Jeremiah Lisbo, and Daniela Stranner. And that’s on big projects at the start of your career.

Despite what some may think, celebrities aren’t always handed their career on a silver platter. Some had to work to get to where they are, like Anthony. The Gen Z actor was raised in Negros Occidental by his grandparents. Growing up, Anthony didn’t have the easiest childhood as his parents struggled to provide for their family. He even had to stop school after Grade 2 because of his family’s situation and didn’t know how to read and write, which he admitted is one of his biggest regrets in life.

He struggled as a teenager because of his lack of schooling and even auditioned at ABS-CBN without knowing how to write. It just goes to show how much determination and perseverance Anthony had in how he went from his humble beginnings to a rising star.

HE IS GREAT AT BOTH COMEDY AND DRAMA

While it still is relatively early days for Anthony’s career, he’s so far proven to have a knack for a variety of roles. In projects like Love At First Stream, Tara, G!, and Can’t Buy Me Love, Anthony confidently takes on comedic, wholesome, and lighthearted roles. But in The Iron Heart, he’s shown he can be more serious and hold his own in more action and drama-heavy projects. He has the potential to adapt to a variety of characters.

They say that there’s no such thing as small roles, just small actors. For Anthony Jennings, he took that to heart as seen in his role as Snoop in Can’t Buy Me Love. While he isn’t the main star of the series, he’s been receiving praise from netizens like one.

As Bingo’s best friend, Snoop is a charmer with his funny antics and comedic chops. Yet, he’s also a thoughtful and supportive friend to his barkada. And let’s not forget his unexpected chemistry with Irene in a meeting of kanal and aircon humor, making for an effortless tandem to root for. Its worlds collide in the best way possible as the characters’ cultures and personalities clash, making for some hilarious interactions.
