Despite all the criticisms TikTok has faced over the years, the platform has been a place for people, regardless of who they come from or what they do, to make a name for themselves. Pinoy creators from all walks of life have the opportunity to go from a relative unknown user to TikTok sensation practically overnight. Nearly anyone can build a following on the platform doing what they love and this diversity was the focus of the TikTok Awards PH 2022.

Held at the New Frontier Theater, the second annual awards show shifted to an in-person gathering following last year’s mostly online debut. The use of the jeepney was a major motif as it honored Filipino creators, big and small, on their work on TikTok over the past year as well as celebrating what makes the platform so special. In case you missed the awards show or want to relive the night, here’s a rundown of the show’s biggest moments.

THE BIG WINNERS

The show opened on a fun note as a whole collective of young stars participated in a song and dance production. Aaron Maniego, Spencer Serafica, Jomar Yee, Darresn Espanto, Ken San Jose, Miguel Tanfelix, Zephanie, Awra, North Star Boys, and even the viral dancing guard were all part of the opening number. It’s definitely an interesting mix of names, but it just goes to show how diverse TikTok can be. Show Suzuki and Janeena Chan served as the hosts of the night as the winners received  a golden TikTok trophy as recognition for their success and fan support.

Up first was Rising Star of the Year which went to comedian Roce Ordonez and beauty guru Pau Pelaez, a fitting win considering they have built an audience in the millions in a short amount of time. Junell Dominic and Celine Nobleza won Rising Live Star of the Year while Yanyan de Jesus and Mona Gonzales took home livestreamer of the year.

On the celebrity front, Joshua Garcia and Vice Ganda unsurprisingly stood on top to be crowned Celebrity of the Year. The TikTok Awards PH 2022 gave a lot of love to P-pop during the show, and one such way was through the inclusion of the P-pop Group of the Year award. Four groups ended up being named the inaugural winners of the award, SB19, BGYO, BINI, AND MNL48. The TikTok Awards are all about celebrating creators, which is why one of the top awards they gave during the night was Popular Creator of the Year, which rightfully went to Esnry Ranollo and Arshie Larga. Arshie is one of the leading creators on TikTok who pushes against misinformation, especially in medicine and healthcare, while Esnyr has gone from just another user on the platform to social media star and actor.

Esnyr’s success on TikTok in particular is the dream for many of what it means to make it big on TikTok. And because of that, Esnyr was also awarded the Creator of the Year, and tied with Pau Pelaez for most wins of the night at two. Esnyr deserved the wins and his sincere acceptance speeches during his big night touched the heart.

Aside from the main awards, the show also handed out for the first time special awards in many fields, as presented by Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi.

They are, as follows:

Top Entertainment Award – Netflix

Top Media Publisher Award – KMJS

Top Beauty and Fashion Creator – Pau Pelaez

Musicians who blew up on TikTok also had a stage to themselves as jikamarie, Rob Deniel, and Ad Beat all performed. Finally, the show ended on a Pinoy pop explosion as MNL48, VXON, BINI, and Morissette took to the stage to and busted out their hits and ended the show on a soaring note.
