If the heat and intensity of the sun are anything to go by, then we’re currently in the middle of the summer season. But while some may see it as the time for high temperatures, it’s also the perfect opportunity to plan that barkada, family, or solo outing.

The skies are clear and the sun is shining, so why not take advantage of the moment to get some R&R? And don’t worry about that budget or having to dip just to afford that plane ticket to the beach as there are places and activities out there that are wallet-approved. If you’re still deciding what to do this summer, we’ve rounded up an itinerary that should make you (and your wallet) happy.

CHECK OUT THE LARGEST TIMEZONE IN THE PHILIPPINES

We all know Timezone, the arcade that’s always there for us, from childhood to adulthood. But their new location in Ayala Malls Fairview Terraces offers a next-level experience as it is the country’s largest Timezone branch. Aside from the arcade games, pool tables, and karaoke rooms, there is also a Hologate Virtual Reality Arena, a snack bar, and even an attraction called Spinzone. At over 2,800 square meters big, it’s the playground arcade of your dreams.

ENJOY THE SUNSET VIEW BY MOUNT BANAHAW

Located at Liliw, Laguna is the Daang Hari Campgrounds. The spacious area is what a serene campground should look like, with wide-open fields and stunning views of Mount Banahaw and its surrounding areas. Bamboo decks allow guests to soak in nature and catch an unobstructed sunset view. And the best part of it all is that the entrance fee is only 50 pesos. For an added fee, you can also spend the night in a cabin or rent a picnic table.

LIVE THE SUPERHERO LIFE IN LASER TAG

LASER TAG Hero Headquarters in the Shangri-La Plaza

Sure, laser tag sounds fun. But you know what’s better than that? Laser tag where you pretend to be superheroes. That’s the experience you’re gonna get at Hero Headquarters in the Shangri-La Plaza. Instead of a typical prop gun, Hero Headquarters equips guests with special blaster gloves so that you can take down your opponents in style.

RAGE OUT AT RAGE ROOM

Summer should be a time to have fun and let loose. But having fun can also mean letting out that anger. And you can healthily do that at Rage Room QC. Located at Banawe, Quezon City, Rage Room is exactly what the name suggests. Guests have the chance to suit up and destroy a variety of items to let go of that pent-up rage and frustration. Different items and rooms are available depending on the package you get. You can make an online reservation here.

TRY OUT DRIP BEAR PAINTING

Spice up your arts and crafts by trying out drip bear painting that you’ve seen on your social media feeds. Paint it Fun PH in Greenhills is the Metro’s first-ever paint pour workshop that lets guests decorate their very own Bear Set. Consider your artwork your newest décor for your room. You can book a slot here.

VISIT THIS CLOCK TOWER MUSEUM

A museum that also gives you stunning 360 views of Manila? You can get that at the Clock Tower Museum in Manila. Inside, you’ll find an immersive and multi-sensory experience curated to tell the story of Manila as well as artworks from local artists. And the top of the tower offers scenic views of the Lawton area and Intramuros. Even the building itself is historic as the tower was built in the 1930s and is the tallest clock tower in Manila. And considering its location, the spot serves as a good jumping-off point for other spots in the capital, such as Intramuros and the National Museum Complex. Check out their Facebook page on how you can book a visit.

GET YOUR ADRENALINE PUMPING WITH OUTDOOR SPORTS

While some would prefer their summer to be a chill and mellow time, others want that added adrenaline rush. If you’re in the latter camp, you may want to pay a visit to Sandbox at Alviera at Porac, Pampanga. This park and adventure zone has many attractions to get that blood pumping and sweat dripping, from rappelling, wall climbing, riding the tallest giant swing in the country, and the highlight, riding the rollercoaster zipline.

PLAY A ROUND OF INDOOR GOLF

While golf is slowly becoming a favorite pastime among some Gen Z, playing a long game in the sun just isn’t the vibe for some. So, head indoors and avoid that sun with Pat’s Putts. Located at Tiendesitas, Pat’s Putts invites all players, whether it’s just one person, couples, or the whole barkada, to enjoy its fun courses that have the added benefit of being glow-in-the-dark.

ENJOY SOME COFFEE AND WATCH A MOVIE

If ever you find yourself along Taft and want something to do, we suggest you check out The Director’s Café. On the second floor is the movie viewing area with a projector and comfortable chairs. As long as you spend a minimum of 300 pesos, you’re allowed to watch one of the many movies they have on offer. Movie screenings are on a first-come-first-serve basis, so it’s advised you show up early so you can catch a flick. Oh, and if you really want that private screening, you can rent the café.
