In an event that gave everyone a taste of the coming summer season, Security Bank unveiled a new item that could not only help you be more financially secure and responsible, but could also be a great summer (and year-long) companion.

The Security Bank Wave Mastercard is a credit card by Security Bank that’s less restrictive and more sustainable (in more ways than one), a new option to consider as someone who may want to explore more options financially. At the product launch of the new Wave Mastercard at The Island at The Palace in BGC, with brand ambassadors Solenn Heusaff and Erwan Heussaff, all the ways the card is beneficial to consumers, the youth, and the environment was laid out.

RIDE THE WAVE

The Wave Mastercard isn’t just aptly named after its dynamic blue wave design. With the card, you could “wave goodbye to annual fees, restrictive interest rates, and unsustainable materials.”

The card includes no annual fees, so you can rest easy knowing you don’t have to pay for anything just for owning the card. They also have an interest rate of 2.5%, one of the lowest among local credit cards. By using the card for online purchases, you can get a 1% cashback reward—that includes travel, food, shopping, and more. The Wave Mastercard is also made out of 100% recycled PVC, out of consideration for the ever-increasing plastic pollution locally and globally.

Essentially, with the card, you could spend while still saving money, earn rebates, and be aware of your environmental impact all at the same time.

FOR THE YOUNG AND AWARE

With its practicality and sustainability in mind, the Wave Mastercard seems to be tailored to the growing population of financially- and environmentally-conscious consumers, many of which are Gen Z.

“The Gen Z kasi,” Product Management Head Misha Ballesteros notes. “They’re more environmentally conscious.”

The card is just a small part of the bank’s efforts to commit to sustainability, as they’re currently undergoing processes to switch to more sustainable practices, such as switching to solar power, to 100% renewable energy in their offices, and integrating more sustainable frameworks in their business. The product launch itself was designed with sustainability in mind as well, with plant-based food and refreshments.

Of course, the card is not just tailored to the very aware and socially-conscious Gen Zs, but also to everyone of any age group who want to make the most bang for their buck.

“Gen Zs now,” Christian Quiros, Vice President and Head of Unsecured Lending, remarks. “They make themselves aware. They handle finances well.” This lends itself to a generation that does have a lot of interests, hobbies, and even collections that they do spend on, but are aware of the present and growing socio-economic difficulties.

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR CHOICES

When you think of summer, you think of travel, vacation, shopping, hanging out with your family or friends, with nary a care in the world. But all that requires—you guessed it, finances. The Wave Mastercard promos and programs lined up, Quiros revealed, like the online cashback, would be perfect for the summer spenders buying their plane tickets online.

In consideration of the very widespread online-shopping culture we have and the “digitally-savvy” Gen Z, as Ballesteros shared, this 1% cashback on all online purchases means with some loss, users still gain (if we Girl Math this, it’s essentially a discount if you think about it, and who doesn’t love a discount).

People get credit cards for a variety of reasons, and young people who get them eventually learn a thing or two about being financially responsible. With this card, you can spend but not feel too bad about it, have a reminder of how eco-conscious we all should be, and even earn some money back all at the same time. Quiros notes that the Wave Mastercard is a good beginner credit card, and advises the young generation, “Just spend within your means.”

If you think the benefits fit you, apply for the Security Bank Wave Mastercard here. If you apply now until March 5, 2024, you can get a free PHP2,000 eGC when you get approved!
