Sandara Park has lived a career that a few K-Pop idols can match. In the Philippines, she initially rose to fame in 2004 when she joined Star Circle Quest in 2004, ultimately placing second. She then became one of the biggest stars in the country with hit songs and blockbuster movies. When she returned to South Korea in 2007, she joined 2NE1. As a group, they were one of the pioneer second-generation K-Pop groups who helped make K-Pop the global phenomenon that it is today.

When 2NE1 sadly disbanded in 2016, she continued on with solo activities, appearing in a variety of movies and TV shows. When news broke that Sandara was leaving her long-time company of YG Entertainment in May 2021 after 17 years, fans waited in anticipation to see what she would do next. Now, Sandara Park is embarking on a new phase of her career, one that fans have been waiting to see for a long time.

SANDARA PARK X ABYSS

On September 1, Abyss Company announced that Sandara Park was joining the company as their newest artist. She signed an exclusive contract with the company and reportedly chose Abyss because of her long-term relationship with the manager who first discovered her when she was living in the Philippines. “We are delighted to be able to share a new beginning with Sandara Park, who has been loved for a long time in Korea and abroad. We will do our best to support Sandara Park’s new side and charm which she has not shown yet, as well as continue various activities for global fans,” said the company in a statement. Along with the announcement, Abyss also released a series of new profile images and a video announcing Dara’s arrival.

This news follows the recent solo activities that her fellow 2NE1 band members have been doing. CL just released her newest single SPICY and just signed with London-based PR agency, SATELLITE414, to help manage her overseas activities. Other clients of the PR agency include Beyoncé, Adele, Dua Lipa, Halsey, Lana Del Ray, Normani, and MONSTA X. MINZY dropped her latest single TEAMO in July while Park Bom’s latest single, Do Re Mi Fa Sol, came out in March.

NEW COMPANY, NEW SANDARA

While Abyss Company may not be household names like YG, SM, or JYP, they still have an impressive roster of artists. More importantly, Sandara will now have a company that will wholeheartedly support her endeavors, regardless of what those may be. In joining Abyss, Dara is now label mates with R&B group Urban Zakapa, soloist and former Wonder Girls member, Sunmi, and GOT7’s BamBam, who joined the company after GOT7 left JYP.

While no official announcement has been given about what exactly Sandara will do next, we assume and hope that this opens the door for Dara to finally release solo music. While seeing her on TV shows and her collabs are nice, we’ve been aching to see Sandara drop her own solo music. We’re hoping to see her release new songs soon and maybe even release an album before the year ends. We also could get the chance to see Sandara finally back on stage and see her do what she does best. And who knows, now that all the members of 2NE1 are out of YG, this might open the doors for that much-hoped-for reunion. Whatever Sandara Park decides to do next; we can’t wait to see her in this new chapter of her career and life.
