Wattpad hit Kiss Master is getting turned into a series. And it’s starring Kaori Oinuma, Kyle Echarri, and Joao Constancia, and being helmed by He’s Into Her director Chad Vidanes.
For all its reputation, Wattpad isn’t just home to odd fanfics and overtly sexual stories. The platform is also home to many writers whose works are more than worthy of a read. Some names include Gwy Saludes (@4reuminct) and Maxine Lat Calibuso (@maxinejiji), authors of the uber popular He’s Into Her series that has since been turned into an equally popular show. It’s safe to say that you can mine Wattpad for exceptional stories, and one such story is Kiss Master from Jamille Fumah (@JFStories). The book has racked up millions of reads and is now set to become the latest Wattpad hit to get the series adaptation treatment.
KISS MASTER SERIES IS COMING
Kumu and Wattpad recently announced that they were teaming up to adapt Kiss Master into a streaming series. The popular read is set to be turned into an eight-episode series for multi-platform distribution. In case you didn’t know, Kiss Master is one of the most popular stories on Wattpad. It follows young heroine Sussie five years after Arkanghel Wolfgang broke her heart. The playful bad boy, once head over heels for Sussie, has since turned into a cold and arrogant billionaire CEO. With social status and personal issues that could separate further them for good, their worlds seem even further apart. But when Arkanghel reappears in her life and attempts to mend their broken ties, Sussie now has to decide if she finds it in her to forgive him.
The book’s author, Jamille Fumah, is a rising star on the platform with over 1.5 million followers and more than 30 stories published. Fumah has also published five books with Bliss Books, Wattpad’s joint imprint with Anvil Publishing in the Philippines. You may have read one of her books like When I First Met You considering how it was a bestseller.
THE TEAM BEHIND THE KISS MASTER SHOW
When adapting a popular series like Kiss Master, you’re going to need the talent to back up the expectations. And the main creative team behind the Kiss Master adaptation is no joke. Black Sheep Productions, the fan favorite film unit among many local cinema fans as they are the studio behind hits such as Exes Baggage, Alone/Together, Fan Girl, and Whether the Weather Is Fine, will serve as the lead team behind the project.
Chad Vidanes will serve as the series director. If his name sounds familiar, that’s because he’s also the director behind another Wattpad hit adaption, He’s Into Her. This will be Wattpad’s first Philippines-based Branded Entertainment project. Wattpad WEBTOON Studios will produce the new series alongside Kumu. “We here at Kumu are proud to find capable partners in Wattpad and Black Sheep, both tastemaking powerhouses that value Filipino creativity as we do,” said Angelo Mendez, Kumu’s Chief Content Officer and co-founder of Kumu. “Our expanded partnership with Wattpad is the next project in a series of fan-influenced adaptations. We’re excited to work with them to innovate the future of storytelling through this web series, encourage aspiring writers, and give the fans the best, heart-warming experience possible.”
So, who’s going to bring these characters to life? The main cast of the Kiss Master adaption features some of the brightest young stars of today. Kaori Oinuma will play the series lead of Sussie. Kyle Echarri will play main love interest, Arkanghel, marking the first time Kaori and Kyle have starred in the same project together. Joao Constancia rounds out the cast as Hugo. Adaptations can sometimes be a hit or miss affair. But given the local talent behind the show, we have faith in this adaptation.
