With clear skies and temperatures rising, summer has always been a good time to go on a vacation and get that needed R&R (and maybe even a tan). A dip in the pool and the view of the beach from your room? Who doesn’t want that? And that was the vibe NYLON Manila brought last April 16-17 as we held our first-ever summer party called Hot Tropic with a select group of influencers and artists in Lian, Batangas.
If you think that two activity-filled days at the beach sounds like paradise, that’s because it was. But more than just an excuse to get in some sun, Hot Tropic was also a reminder to party responsibly, especially during the season when hangouts, outings, and trips with friends and family are popping up left and right. Here’s a look at what went down at our exclusive Hot Tropic party.
SUN AND SURF
Hot Tropic, where BYS Cosmetics and Yo Joe served as major sponsors, started early on April 16 as guests made their way to Araya Beach Casas in Lian, Batangas. With four private villas, each with its own pool, and just steps away from the beach, the beachfront property served as the perfect venue for the party. The whole place was decked out as a summer getaway, with floaties in the pool, well-stocked pantries in each villa, and a Yo Joe booth, where guests could try out their refreshing collagen drinks that give you a summer-ready glow.
As guests, which included M1ss Jade So, Alamat Jao, and Erika Rabara, arrived and settled in, they enjoyed welcome drinks courtesy of Yo Joe for that glow-on-the-go feel. Waiting for them in their bedrooms was a gift bag filled with all kinds of goodies from BYS, Studio Sunspell, TALA by Kyla, Yo Joe, a custom NYLON Manila tote bag from Likha Canvas, and more. Guests also got to try and take home a BYS summer essential kit, which included a first look at their Tinted Sun Cushion SPF 50+ PA+++ that gives flexible coverage to stay fresh and protected under the hot summer sun.
SUMMER SENSATION
Soon, the program for the intimate gathering began as NYLON Manila’s Brand Manager Elyse Ilagan welcomed guests and introduced a game called Core Quest. The invitees were divided into three groups as each team had to search Araya for eight puzzle pieces that made one of NYLON Manila’s three core values: self-actualization, self-expression, and self-love. And what did the winning team take home? Oh, just some loot courtesy of BYS and Grind.
Afterward, NYLON Manila’s Editor-in-Chief Maggie Batacan took to the mic to share the importance of partying responsibly. After all, just because you’re having fun doesn’t mean you should neglect the environment or have the right to leave where you party a mess. “As the climate crisis continues to threaten the most vulnerable members of our society, it is the duty of those of us who are able to do what we can to protect them. We believe that every action, no matter how seemingly inconsequential, can make a big, bold, and brave impact,” she expressed.
Of course, what’s a summer party without some water activities, right? That was the MO for the guests following the program as they enjoyed the pool, swam at the beach, went kayaking, and got that content for the IG feed. The gorgeous sunset in particular served as a popular backdrop for many.
WITH FRIENDS LIKE THESE
As day turned into night, the celebration continued with a boodle fight for dinner the NYLON Manila way, which meant the most extra boodle fight setup you’ve seen thanks to YDEA Concepto Events and Management.
When tummies were full, the afterparty began with free-flowing drinks from Tara Barik Mobile Bar. Old friends caught up and new friendships were formed as guests enjoyed cans of refreshing Heineken beer. The vibes that night we’re giving as the afterparty included, among other things, a game of beach volleyball, impromptu performances from M1ss Jade and Jao, and M1ss Jade being the unofficial MC of the night. We would spill everything that happened, but let’s just say what happens in the Casas, stays in the Casas.
Alas, all good things must come to an end as the guests got ready to check out the following morning. But before they left, in the spirit of responsible partying, they made sure to clean up their villas and throw their trash properly. As a final treat, they took home a sendoff gift bag from JustG for that next beach trip ‘fit.
The sun definitely brought the “Hot” to “Hot Tropic”, but even that couldn’t stop us from having fun. Thank you to everyone who came.
