For any avid reader of Wattpad, Gwy Saludes is one of the must-read authors on the platform. Many of her stories and books are some of the most popular on the site, even transcending to real world publication. And arguably her biggest, most famous, and beloved work to date is The Rain in España, the first book in the popular University Series. After becoming a staple on Wattpad, the book is now leaping off the page as it is set to have it’s very own adaptation soon. And the best part? There is a chance you can be a part of it.
FROM BOOK TO SCREEN
At the tail end of July, Gwy shared on social media that The Rain in España was getting an adaptation in partnership with VIVA. The reveal was done through the POV of main characters Luna and Kalix chatting with each other. For those who are unfamiliar, the Wattpad novel centers on Kalix, a student from a family of doctors. But instead of following the family legacy, he instead takes up Legal Management at Ateneo de Manila University. During his studies, he meets Luna, an Architecture student from UST and the two slowly form a bond that transcends being more than just friends.
The novel quickly became a mega hit. To date, it has over 126 million reads and served as the opening chapter for the equally popular University Series. The Rain in España is so popular that it even was published in a physical book. So, when Gwy announced that an adaptation was coming, many people were excited, as well as curious to see how it would be brought to life. It was revealed during the announcement that there would be an open audition to determine who will be casted in the adaptation. And over the weekend, Gwy shared those exact details.
AUDITION PROCESS
First, you need to be a Filipino between the ages of 18-25 and a resident of Metro Manila. If not, you need to have a place to stay in the city, can stay here during the actual shoot, and can attend the physical audition in Metro Manila if you get accepted. Next, you need to fill out a form from VIVA giving your consent (you can find that here). Afterwards, you need to send them a full body and close-up shot.
You also need to record yourself saying your name, where you live, your age, and height. Finally, and arguably the most important part, you need to send in an audition tape of you acting out a monologue (found here). Once that is settled, send the requirements to trieopenauds@gmail.com on or before August 5, Friday. If you managed to get shortlisted, you will be interviewed via Zoom where further details will be given.
It should be noted that Gwy hasn’t specifically stated what kind of adaptation The Rain in España is going to get. It could be a movie, TV show, or web series. A musical is also in the cards given how O/C Records is part of the production team. But whatever the final output may be, we trust that Gwy knows what she is doing. So, if you want to see yourself in the adaption of the book, get working on that audition.
