The Marvel movies have grown in popularity over the last decade and is currently the most successful movie franchise in history. Chances are, you or someone you know has seen at least one MCU movie. But aside from hours of entertainment, as well as of the many theories that trail these experiences, Marvel movies also offer very important life lessons anyone can take away whether they be young or old. As seen in the recent release of Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, these movies can mean something deeper for people. These movies do have a special place in many people’s hearts. There is so much you can learn from Marvel as they are more than just movies to watch in your free time. Here are 6 life lessons we took away from Marvel movies.

THERE IS NO I IN TEAM

As the now famous saying goes, “Avengers Assemble.” Rarely in Marvel movies is it shown that the main character achieves a goal by doing things on their own. Iron Man had Pepper and Jarvis, Captain America had his friends in the army, Thor had his fellow Asgardians, and Star-Lord has the Guardians of the Galaxy. Do not think that you can do everything by yourself. As cliché as it sounds, there is no need to burden yourself on doing every possible thing. Know when to stop and know when you need the help.

EVEN WHEN IT SEEMS LIKE THERE IS NO HOPE, DON’T GIVE UP

Countless times during the Marvel movies have the superheroes faced daunting odds. Try as they might, the Avengers could not stop Thanos from snapping away half of the universe and it looked like things were over for them. But they persevered, regrouped, and managed to undo Thanos’ damage and get everyone back. Whether it be the battle of New York City or fighting Ultron, it looked like the Avengers were going to lose, but they never gave up and won in the end.

Even though it seems like times can get tough in school, work, or home, you should never give up. You will never grow as a person if you just stop and give up the moment you experience hardship. Do not immediately give up after you face a difficult task. Instead, try to find a way to solve the problem with the skills you have. And if you just can’t get over that hurdle, at least you tried right?

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ASKING FOR HELP

Even though the superheroes of the MCU are very powerful, it does not mean that they don’t need help from time to time. With that being said, one important life lesson is that there is nothing wrong with asking for it. If you are having a hard time at work or school or your struggling mentally, don’t be afraid to reach out. You aren’t becoming a better person when you reject help even when you clearly need it. It just shows that you don’t want your ego bruised, which shouldn’t be the case.

YOUR FAMILY IS WHO YOU MAKE IT TO BE

As ideal as it is, the reality is that not everyone is born into or has a whole family. Some are adopted, others have separated parents, while some don’t even know who their real family is. In the MCU, this topic has been touched upon, especially in Black Widow where it served as one of the main themes of the film.

One important life lesson that Marvel shared about this is that, at the end of the day, your real family doesn’t always have to be your biological family. It’s the people who you truly love that matter. Even though Natasha, Yelena, Alexei, and Melina aren’t technically a real family, they see and treat each other as such. Yelena and Natasha form a sisterly bond while in one pivotal scene, Yelena feels strongly that the four of them are her real family.

TRY TO LOOK AT THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE

The Marvel movies can get dark and discuss serious topics, but that does not mean the Marvel characters did not know how to enjoy themselves. Iron Man is on occasion known to crack a joke or two, Thor can have light-humored banter among his fellow Avengers, and Star-Lord always knows how to brighten things up in stressful situations. Do not always take yourself too seriously. If things are getting you down, try to do things that cheer you up. Hang out with your friends, do your favorite hobby, or just stay at home and relax, if you can. Remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and it is unhealthy to stay so negative in your life and mindset.

YOU CAN ALWAYS BE A BETTER PERSON

Black Widow' Release Pulled Due to Coronavirus - Variety

People always think that to become a superhero, you need to come from a desirable background, or you never did anything bad in your life, but that is not true. Some of the MCU heroes didn’t come from desirable backgrounds. Black Widow was a trained assassin before she join the Avengers. Star-Lord’s father, Ego, was a Celestial who had less than good intentions and wanted his son to join in his footsteps. Bucky Barnes had a kill list that was longer than most grocery lists. But these characters didn’t let their past and backgrounds define who they would eventually become or stop them from growing as individuals.

The important Marvel life lesson here is that you always can grow as a person. Your past does not define who you are. If you come from complicated home life, that doesn’t mean you can’t grow up to be a successful person. Sure, you may make mistakes here and there, but don’t let those mistakes define you. Learn from them and be a better person.
