Idols are often held to a set standard and expected to act a certain way. But even with the rigidity of the industry, some find ways to add their own personality and culture into what they do. Just take a look at HORI7ON. Since 2023, the global pop group has operated in the unique space of being the first and, so far, only all-Filipino group to debut in South Korea.

As such, Vinci, Kim, Kyler, Reyster, Winston, Jeromy, and Marcus needed to adapt to Korean culture and customs. But even with all that, these seven young men are still Gen Z Filipinos at heart, and it hasn’t left them even if they are officially idols. They join a small but growing contingent of Pinoy and Pinoy-at-heart idols who are giving the industry a much-needed taste of Filipino energy.

THEIR TELESERYE ERA

Reyster and Kyler ate their recreation of the viral confrontation scene from the teleserye Ika-6 na Utos, toy gun and all. The fact that it was these two members specifically who did it made it even better. HORI7ON acting era when?

SLAYING WITH THEIR FELLOW PINOY IDOLS

While it can be lonely being the only all-Filipino pop group in South Korea, HORI7ON can take comfort in the fact they have a few kababayans in the industry as well. In particular, the boys met Sandara Park, who gave them some words of encouragement, and we finally got the UNIS Filo line interaction with HORI7ON we’ve all been waiting for. Fun fact: Marcus and UNIS’s Elisia are actually cousins. The talent in their family is crazy.

OH SHOCKS!

@hori7onofficial Pantropiko (Giniginaw Ver.) ❄️🥶 #HORI7ON #호라이즌 #REYSTER #레이스터 #VINCI #빈치 #KIM #킴 ♬ Pantropiko – BINI

We love seeing Filipino pop groups support other Filipino pop groups. Even the cold air of South Korea can’t stop the Pantropiko fever. They slayed their cover of the viral hit.

WEARING DUCK CLIPS ON KOREAN TV

While it technically didn’t start in the Philippines, the duck clip trend definitely had its moment in Pinoy pop culture. And it even reached South Korea courtesy of HORI7ON. During their Inkigayo stage when they performed LUCKY, some of the members included a duck clip with their outfits, most notably Vinci with the duck on his shoulder.

THEY LIKE IT B.A.D

Just like you, HORI7ON knows a baddie when they see one. They felt the song in their bones, as they should.

REMINISCING ON FILIPINO CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS

We’d never expected to see an idol group in Korea talk about Jose Mari Chan, but here we are. As the boys celebrated their first Christmas in Seoul, the members talked about how they usually celebrated the season back home, which includes Noche Buena, Simbang Gabi, and many Filipino delicacies. But our favorite part of HORI7ON’s Filipino Christmas 101 was Marcus bringing up the fact that once the Ber months start, Jose Mari Chan’s Christmas music is played non-stop.

ALWAYS ON PINOY TRENDS

It’s HORI7ON we’re talking about, of course they’re gonna be on top of the latest Filipino trends on TikTok like the Gen Z global pop group that they are.

FEATURING TAGALOG IN THEIR MUSIC

Just because HORI7ON is a global pop group doesn’t mean they can’t incorporate their mother tongue into their music. Just listen to Mama, a track off their Friend-SHIP debut album that’s sung in all Tagalog. The touching track serves as a heartwarming ode to all the moms out there who love and support their children unconditionally. We hope to see the group incorporate more Tagalog into their future projects.
