Miss Universe 2015, philanthropist, activist, actress, and role model, Pia Wurtzbach just has it all. But sometimes, people are just too quick to tarnish a good person’s name when they’re in the spotlight. Ironically, bashing is somehow another sign that you’ve made it, emotional damage that Internet anons just seem to have fun inflicting and all. Even Pia acknowledged it in her TEDx Talk, opening up about getting depressed and having self-harm tendencies right after winning, but she braved it all and reminded everyone that they can do it, too.

Perhaps one of the most controversial crowning moments in Miss Universe history is Pia’s. She did admit in her TEDx talk that a lot of people sent her death threats afterwards, but now looking back, she just laughs about it. Pia even joked about it in another tweet that she’s a queen that’s used to “maling announcements.”

Much can be said about the toxic culture of society’s obsession with pitting women against each other. After the countless comparisons between her and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, Pia said in interviews that there’s no beef between them. She even expressed her happiness that the there are “4 Miss Universes from the Philippines now.” A year later, Pia admitted in another interview that the rumors of their rivalry is still on going and that she wishes that they would just stop.
