It was a hot month, but new entertainment options from Zendaya, SEVENTEEN, and RIIZE kept us cool throughout April.

With so much content out there to enjoy, it can get overwhelming even just to pick what to watch or listen to. It’s a dilemma even we face when spending our time on the media we consume. But it’s a good problem to have, and over the last four weeks, we kept ourselves entertained with new releases and old gems. Check out below the media that we obsessed over this past month, and who knows, you might find your next favorite thing.
BESTDRESSED – MAGGIE BATACAN, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
Though Ashley is no longer posting and is (I hope) living her best life on the high fashion scene, I miss her videos greatly. Not only were they a great source of fashion advice and principles that I utilize to this day, but they were also a great source of comfort. Watching her talk honestly about her life and experiences feels like catching up with an old friend.
CHALLENGERS – RAFAEL BAUTISTA, MANAGING EDITOR
Zendaya ate again I fear. Tennis, threesomes, and a club-approved soundtrack make for one of the most compelling dramas of the year. The story of two friends falling in love with the same tennis star turns into a satisfying decade-long match on who can get it. Minor story missteps aside, stylishly sexy Challengers easily takes the Grand Slam.
ESPRESSO BY SABRINA CARPENTER – RAFAEL BAUTISTA, MANAGING EDITOR
Sorry but when I first heard Sabrina’s newest single, it sounded like she plagiarized it. It sounds like SOTY and the song of the summer in one track. With its playful lyrics, catchy beat, and refreshing vibe, you’ll be replaying Espresso long past the end of summer.
SEVENTEEN BEST ALBUM ’17 IS RIGHT HERE’ AND MAESTRO – BIANCA LAO, BRAND ASSOCIATE
It is not common for K-pop groups to release anthology albums, but with a discography as wide and decorated as SEVENTEEN’s, you’d come to see exactly why this powerhouse of a group is still going. As a CARAT myself, I’m particularly a fan of the title track MAESTRO. Despite the genre hop from their most recent title track God of Music, SEVENTEEN still manages to keep to their identity and sound through different flows and rhythms along with samples from their previous tracks.
It’s an out-of-the-box track, a testament to how far they’ve come as a group with their accomplishments, and their identity. As a fan, I’ve gained even more respect and I’m very proud of them. I can’t wait for what’s to come with the group in 2024.
HADESTOWN ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST RECORDING – NICA GLORIOSO, FEATURES WRITER
The Hadestown Original Broadway Cast Recording has been playing on my Spotify on loop! All the twists and turns the Orpheus and Eurydice tale takes, the social commentary, the relationships, and the narrative built in the songs are so engaging. Peak musical theater excellence. Wait For Me and Why We Build The Wall are personal faves.
RIIZE’S RIIZING ALBUM – GELO QUIJENCIO, MULTIMEDIA ARTIST
RIIZE came back with a fresh and youthful album. The five songs are filled with both good tunes and meaningful messages. The nostalgic feeling from the tracks rekindles my teenage self.
LOVELY RUNNER – SHANE SY, SOCIAL MEDIA ASSOCIATE
Sometimes we need a feel-good K-drama with cliché scenes that make you kick the air from kilig, and for me, it’s Byeon Wooseok and Kim Hyeyoon’s ongoing drama, Lovely Runner. I started watching it because the plot is too relatable for a fangirl like me, but as the story develops, it becomes more interesting, yet still an easy watch. So if you want cliché rom-coms, this is the drama for you.
