When K-pop groups collaborate, you know the impact is going to be astronomical. We’re still not over the epic energy GOT the beat gave us. But aside from collaborations besides between artists under the same company, we often don’t see cross-group collaborations. So, when those stars align, especially for groups not from the same company, it has the potential to be the most slay of joint slays.

You can imagine then fans’ surprise when music outlet M:USB teased an upcoming collaboration between top girl groups (G)I-DLE, aespa, and IVE on their YouTube and Instagram. They posted a trailer video for Nobody, a special single that will come out on November 16th, 6PM KST (5 PM PHT). Each group was symbolized by different colors and 3D logos. As for which three artists are forming the unit, they haven’t been announced yet, but stay tuned on the M:USB YouTube and Instagram accounts for when they drop. But before then, place your bets!

COMPETITION WHO?

Starship Entertainment

The world of K-pop and fandom is wrought with so much competition. From charts to artistry, companies to costumes, everything about K-pop groups—particularly girl groups—is always made to be a competition. It’s not just K-pop, either. Female artists wherever they come from are always compared to one another. So, while this collab may not bring world peace, it is something new, something fresh, and something people have been clamoring for.

(G)I-DLE from Cube Entertainment, aespa from SM Entertainment, and IVE from Starship Entertainment are among the top-performing 4th generation K-pop girl groups of today. From their hits like Queencard to Next Level to After Like, these three groups are making waves in the industry and ensuring they’re here to solidify their status as K-pop royalty—and this collaboration will be another notch on their belt.

COLLAB OF THE CENTURY

Korean news site Naver reported that the single is special gift to global fans with the participation of Korean writers, producers, and of course, artists.

K-pop girl groups have often performed together during music awards or festivals before, and recently, SM Entertainment formed Got the Beat, a supergroup made up of female SM artists BoA, Taeyeon and Hyoyeon (Girls Generation), Wendy and Seulgi (Red Velvet), and Winter and Karina (aespa). Got the Beat released and performed their single Step Back back in 2022 and dropped their EP Stamp On It in January 2023. In 2018, a collab single called Wow Thing was released by Red Velvet’s Seulgi, GFriend’s SinB, (G)I-IDLE’s So-yeon, and former I.O.I member and soloist Chungha.

So, collabs between female K-pop artists aren’t unheard of, but a single by (G)I-DLE, aespa, and IVE—three artists from three different groups in three different companies—is a once-in-a-blue-moon drop that’s sure to make K-pop history—and it might even open doors to more collaborations in the future.
