As one of the most important events in the Catholic Faith, Holy Week is a time for solemn reflection and joyous celebration as it marks the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. With the end of the Lenten Season, many embark on a long weekend break, which usually means logging out of the work email and heading to the beach, province, or even abroad. But even if you aren’t part of the faith or are spending Holy Week at home, you can still use the moment for that much-deserved break from the hustle and bustle of life. So, we listed down a few things to do and try this Holy Week to make the most of the R&R.

ENJOY THE OPEN AIR

With Holy Week comes thousands leaving the city and heading to the province and other vacation destinations. With fewer people, cars, and crowding in the Metro, now would be a great time to head out and enjoy the open air. Go biking, head to your nearest park, or go for a run. With the city feeling a lot less crowded these days, take advantage of the moment and get in that breeze and vitamin D.

CATCH UP ON THE WATCHLIST

Four days of no work and school. You know what that means? Time to re-enter your cinephile era and watch all those movies you’ve been dying to see. Life can be so busy sometimes that we end up not having the time to watch our favorite media. So, use the Holy Week break to get those binging hours, catch up on what you’ve missed, and stay updated on the latest releases.

DO A SOCIAL MEDIA DETOX

Even if you don’t consider yourself the prayer or religious type, you can still pause everything that has been running in your mind. And one of the first things you can do is go on a social media detox. Time to reflect and meditate, and not be on your phone 24/7. So, go offline for a bit and remember to take in what’s in front of you, not the latest trends on social media. A little break and time off won’t hurt anyone.

GO ON A RETREAT FOR SPIRITUAL WELLNESS

As a time to quiet down and look inward, Holy Week serves as a great setting to go on a spiritual retreat. Step back from all the noise and reflect on what matters the most as you rejuvenate and re-align your spiritual energies. But if going to the province or an isolated retreat house isn’t your cup of tea, doing Visita Iglesia or visiting a prayer park is more than enough. As long as you enter this with the right mindset and intentions, you’re good to go.

SEE MORE OF THE CITY

If you’ve ever wanted to check out a local art gallery, try that cafe you’ve been seeing on TikTok, or even see if rock climbing is for you, consider Holy Week your excuse to do so. A less congested city means a relatively easier time to explore and see the different parts and destinations that you’ve been meaning to go to. You have at least four days to check off your itinerary. Who knows, you might find that next favorite hangout spot.

READING? WE DO KNOW HER

Remember that book you bought and promised yourself you’d finish in a month? Yeah, it’s still there in the corner of your bedroom still inside its plastic covering. But don’t worry, you can use the Holy Week break to finally dive into the literary world and finish (or get started) on that book. And no, we aren’t talking about school readings. Even if you aren’t interested in reading, the long weekend can still be the time to get on with the hobbies you’ve been putting off.

If you feel like life keeps getting in the way of those activities you hold near and dear to your heart, Holy Week is the time to focus on just that. Put your mind off work or school and spend some, or several, moments doing what you love.
