Remember Her Name: Why Hannah Locsin Is Poised To Dominate The World Of Fashion

line
What has she been up to lately? A whole of making dreams happen.

From Gucci to Vogue Japan, Filipino model Hannah Locsin is primed for even greater things in the future of fashion. Yes, she is making things happen alright.

In what seems like a lifetime ago, Hannah Locsin set social media timelines ablaze with what has since become a perfunctory image of her in a lime green Gucci dress, punctuated by the coveted oversized pair of chain-attached sunglasses, and what is now a distinct bob cut. Yes, one would argue that it isn’t anything out of the ordinary, especially with more Filipinos taking a crack at and asserting dominance on the international fashion scene, but as exhausted, jaded, and nonchalant as some may be, especially as of late, no one could ever take away what this special milestone on the runway meant. At that point, history was made, because that marked the first time a Filipino model was chosen to walk for the illustrious House of Gucci in Milan Fashion Week no less.

“No words can explain how much this means to me,” she wrote on Instagram. “Debuting @gucci at #MFW is a dream come true.” Years later, one that includes a punishing pandemic, Hannah Locsin remains at the top of her game, making more dreams a reality. Since sauntering down the runway of Gucci in Look #27, she has slowly and surely worked her way up the fashion food chain. Jetting to London, Paris, and New York city (where she is currently based), wearing the likes of Chanel, Balenciaga, and Yohji Yamamoto, it may seem like it’s all glitz and glamour for Hannah Locsin, but make no mistake about it, all this is a cumulation of many years toiled in Philippine fashion.

Grit, tenacity, and hard work? She has that in spades.

Taking Over The World

The rest of the world was just starting to get acquainted with Miss Locsin, but back here in the Philippines, Hannah was regular fixture as a working model, walking walking many a fashion show and filling up her book with editorials from numerous publications. After dutifully finishing her degree and switching up her look with the shocking and now signature hair chop, she then started her trajectory abroad. This wasn’t an overnight success by any means, and here, we track what she has been up to.

From cryptic Instagram stories to the eventual confirmation of her appearance in the Alessandro Michele-orchestrated Gucci S/S 2020 show, Hannah Locsin has been a regular face for the brand, taking part in multiple campaigns, including a kitschy two-in-one tutorial video for Gucci Beauty—another first for a Filipino model. Even with her already sparkling and sterling crown at Gucci, it was just the beginning for her.

The stars have been auspiciously lined up for her because it didn’t take long for us to see what else she would achieve in her career. From international magazine cover (Harper’s Bazaar Kazakhstan, Grazia China, and special mention to her reality-bending MEGA solo spot), covetable commercial campaigns, to being cast in more runway presentations in the fashion capitals of the world (Miu Miu, Ralph And Russo, Anteprima, and more), she has definitely been earning major cred and mad respect. The latest feather in her cap? Fronting Vogue Japan Beauty October 2021.

To More Firsts

“Brand new beauty,” the Vogue Japan Beauty blurb reads in an image of Hannah Locsin looking frosty, fresh, and fierce in all white. A most fitting choice of words to accompany the look, she pierces through with her gaze, all while making you take notice of her opalescent skin and the ubiquitous rockstar mullet that is a lot less Billy Ray and more Miley. In another photo from the Lacey lensed set, she is seen with two equally striking Asian models, Bomi Youn and Manami Kinoshita, all sporting a crisp and contemporary cut that are all sorts of cool.

With a lot of firsts ticked off, this one is a sure pinch-me-moment for Hannah Locsin. Debuting in one of fashion’s most elusive ecosystems, and landing Vogue Japan Beauty no less, this Filipino model is leading the command for world domination, and there’s no stopping her now.

So, what’s next for Hannah Locsin? Well, your guess is as good as ours, but one thing’s for sure, we’ll be keeping a close eye out for her.
