Witness Stell of SB19, Zephanie, Janella Salvador, and more bring the house down as Disney+ Philippines’ ‘A Night of Wonder spotlights Filipino musical prowess.
It’s official, Disney+ is now in the Philippines. And to celebrate its much-awaited arrival is a night filled with an astounding showcase of iconic shows and movies and a dazzling display of Filipino musical talent. On A Night Of Wonder, hosted by Robi Domingo and Catriona Gray who were in front of a Mickey-fied MOA Globe, Filipino audiences marveled at the exciting Disney+ lineup that awaits us and received surprising and special greetings from stars like Chris Evans, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Florence Pugh, BLACKPINK’s Jisoo, and Hamilton creator and composer Lin-Manuel Miranda who endearingly said, “Kamusta, mga besh!”
And of course, the wondrous night would not be complete without the grand musical performances from our favorite Filipino idols. Tale as old as time, Filipinos love music and most of the time, music loves us back. And at the festive evening, the sheer musical talent of our very own stars rightfully takes center stage. Below are some of the highlights that are nothing short of captivating.
Opening the festive night is this generation’s pop princess, Zephanie, with a spellbinding rendition of the Ned Washington classic When You Wish Upon A Star from Disney’s 1940 animated film, Pinocchio. And as we’ve expected from the first Idol Philippines winner, Zephanie shines at the sparkly Philippine Arena with a flawless performance that will make you wonder why she hasn’t been in a Disney movie yet. Zephanie also performed the song live in an on-site launch event for Disney+ Philippines and it’s just equally fascinating.
And then comes the fiercely talented singer-actress, Janella Salvador, who makes us proud once more with an effortlessly graceful performance of Moana’s How Far I’ll Go. She strutted into the floor of the massive arena ready to own the song. This is a no-brainer because Janella has done a couple of Disney performances in the past. She represented the country with a rendition of the same song for Walt Disney Studios Southeast Asia.
In 2015, Janella was also chosen by the Hong Kong Disneyland to sing Happily Ever After, its theme for its tenth anniversary. Not only that, the multi-talented Filipina has also graced the stage as part of Disney In Concert, singing other iconic Disney songs. So yes, there’s no wonder that during A Night of Wonder, Janella Salvador just shines like a true Disney princess.
STELL OF SB19
All hail, Prince Stell! The main vocalist, lead dancer, and main choreographer of P-Pop kings SB19 bedazzles us with a majestic presentation of Elton John’s Circle of Life from the Disney classic The Lion King. Stell’s powerful vocals and beguiling charm are on a whole ‘nother level here, one that makes him a Disney prince of his own. He’s no stranger to covering Disney songs, but this rendition feels extra special. Add that to the news of how WYAT became the group’s second song to enter Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs chart, it was a great night for A’TIN.
INTO THE UNKNOWN
As if all of that is not enough, Zephanie, Janella, and Stell joined forces to perform Frozen 2’s Into The Unknown ultimately giving us a sublime experience we’ll never forget. It’s just appropriate that the powerful trio performed it in the biggest indoor arena in the world because their performance is gloriously awe-inspiring and brought down the house.
There would be a standing ovation if the arena had an audience. One can’t help but look forward to more exciting collaborations among these highly talented performers. A Filipino musical Disney movie with Stell, Janella, and Zephanie as the leads? We’re all for it. It’s a musical trio we need more of.
Giving us all the feels and hype we need is Zack Tabudlo who serenades us with his performance of The Score’s Unstoppable. Set in the historic site of Intramuros, specifically the Baluarte de San Diego, Zack’s ethereal vocals once again takes our breath away with a soaring performance that captures the magic and epicness of our favorite Marvel movies. Just recently, the Binibini singer has also shared that he’s reached five million monthly singers on Spotify, the first-ever Filipino artist to do so. Zack really is unstoppable.
MORISSETTE AND CHRISTIAN BAUTISTA
For the grand finale, Morisette and Christian Bautista, two of the best musical talents in the country, bless our ears with a heavenly medley of Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin’s A Whole New World. Singing together on top of a building overlooking the Manila Bay seems a perfect place for a soaring duet performance that transports us to a whole new world and beyond. Morisette, the Asia’s Phoenix, also closed A Night of Wonder and wrapped the wondrous evening, which felt like a magical dream, with a rousing rendition of Disney+ Philippines’ theme song, Imagine More, complete with an enthralling drone show.
