The voter registration process just became easier.

COMELEC just launched a voter registration app with the goal of streamlining the voter registration process and making it more convenient for people to register to vote.

In case you didn’t know, the 2022 elections are less than a year away. Voter registration for the 2022 elections, meanwhile, runs until September 30, 2021. That is less than 4 months away as of this writing, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. As a matter of fact, there are around 14 million eligible Filipinos who have not yet registered to vote.

If you haven’t registered to vote yet, the process just became easier. COMELEC just launched a mobile registration app today, June 15, 2021, with the goal of making the voter registration process easier. The best part about the app is that you can still use it even when you have no internet connection.

“The launch of the mobile app is very timely in the face of mobility restrictions brought by COVID-19 because you will only need a smartphone to accomplish the form,” says COMELEC commissioner Marlon Casquejo in a statement. “This will save time, effort, and money that will otherwise be spent on going to a computer shop to download and print the form or getting the form at the local COMELEC to fill it out manually,” he furthers.

COMELEC adds that mobile voter registration has been implemented in selected pilot areas. It is also currently being implemented in more than 500 cities and municipalities nationwide. They also, however, noted that the registration process could not be done fully online. Registrants would still have to drop by their local COMELEC offices.

How To Download The App

Currently, the app is only available on Android phones. You can download the app through this link. It can also be shared offline from one Android smartphone to another via Bluetooth using the SHAREit app, which you can download on the Google Playstore or any other file-sharing app.

To download, click the “Download” button; run the “Mobile Registration Form Application 1.apk” after downloading by clicking it. If asked to install from unknown sources, click “Allow unknown apps to be installed; and then click “Install.”

How To Use The App

According to COMELEC, once you are on the app, here is how to use it; Open the mobile app, and tap “Get Started.” Then, select the desired type of application and tap “Proceed.”  Input all the necessary personal information. Confirm your personal information by ticking the checkbox. Afterward, tap “Generate QR Code” and “Save” to save it in your phone gallery. Finally, bring a valid ID upon visiting your local COMELEC office for your QR code scanning.

“A QR Code is generated upon successful accomplishment of the form. You must save the QR code on your smartphone. Afterward, you may visit your COMELEC office to have your QR code scanned, and biometrics taken.” Cascuejo said.
