BLACKPINK is set to celebrate a special occasion this August. The K-Pop girl group is set to turn five years old on August 8. Back in August 8, 2016, the group debuted with two songs, BOOMBAYAH and WHISTLE, immediately capturing the world’s attention. Since then, it’s only been a meteoric rise for the girls.

As BLACKPINK is nearing its fifth anniversary, the group decided to hold special projects to celebrate the momentous occasion and to also serve as a special treat for fans. This is why back in June, they announced the 4+1 PROJECT, which is five special projects lined up this August for BLINKs to look forward to. Here are the anniversary celebrations fans should be looking forward to.

BLACKPINK: THE MOVIE

First, the group is releasing a new movie called BLACKPINK: THE MOVIE. The documentary will recap the group’s career as well as feature never-before-seen interviews of the girls. The film will feature special segments like “The Room of Memory,” which will see the girls reminisce about their journey together in the past five years and “Beauty,” which will focus on and highlight the members’ personalities. Five song performances from BLACKPINK: THE SHOW and their IN YOUR AREA tour will also be featured in the movie as a way to give the audience a feeling of what it’s like being in a concert hall.

This will be the group’s second movie after the 2020 Netflix documentary Light Up The Sky. BLACKPINK: THE MOVIE has a release date of August 4 and will screen in over 100 countries in both 2D and 4DX format, depending on the cinema. Though an official release date for the Philippines has yet to be given.

THE ALBUM LIMITED EDITION PHOTOBOOK

BLACKPINK will also be dropping a limited edition THE ALBUM photobook on August 9. The hardcover photo book was designed by the members themselves and features over 208 pages of never before seen behind-the-scenes images from the songs in THE ALBUM from Lovesick Girls to Ice Cream and more. The photobook will also come with a double-sided history poster set that charts BLACKPINK’s history from their debut in 2016 until today, a sticker set, a photo card set, a bookmark, and a folded poster. All of this will be packaged in what YG is calling a [4+1] Special Gift Case. The photobook will set you back $25 (around 1250 pesos) and only be available in limited quantities. You can pre-order it here.

BLACKPINK JOINS WEVERSE

BLINKS will now have a new way to connect with BLACKPINK as the group is now finally on Weverse. On August 2, BLACKPINK officially joined social media app Weverse and nearly broke the platform. The group racked up over 500,000 followers in an hour and over 1.3 million followers in a day. As of this writing, each member has posted at least once on their account, so make sure to check out BLACKPINK’S Weverse account for more content from the girls. This also makes BLACKPINK the third YG artist to have an official Weverse account, following TREASURE and iKON.

BLACKPINK 2021 SUMMER DIARY

As the fourth special project and event for BLACKPINK’s 5th anniversary, the group will be releasing their 2021 Summer Diary. The video sees the girls visiting Everland theme park as they try out every ride and just have a fun and magical time together. The video will be 70 minutes long and come with Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese subtitles. If you want to see what the girls were up to during their trip, you can pre-order the 2021 Summer Diary KiT Video.

The KiT Video will contain the package box and sleeve, an Air KiT, a postcard set, a photo stand, a graphic sticker set, a polaroid set, and a magnet set. Other collectibles that you can get include a mini-book, a photo book, a mouse pad, and a special coaster. The Summer Diary costs $39.80 (around 2000 pesos) and will be released on August 25. It should be noted though that there is still one more unannounced project left in the 4+1 PROJECT.

THE ALBUM JAPANESE VERSION

BLACKPINK also just released a Japanese version of their 2020 release, THE ALBUM. Dropping on August 3, this Japanese version will contain eight songs, including Japanese versions of Lovesick Girls, How You Like That, Pretty Savage, and You Never Know. Twelve physical editions will be made available to purchase. Prices range from 2750 yen (around 1257 pesos) – 10,780 yen (around 5000 pesos). The physical albums will also come with a photo book, photo card, poster, and more depending on the version you buy. You can buy one here.

To celebrate the release of the album, BLACKPINK also dropped the music videos for the Japanese versions for Lovesick Girls and How You Like That. There is also a virtual space that you can enter where you can play an online crane game, watch their music videos, meet YG character KRUNK, and more.

LISA’S SOLO MUSIC IS FINALLY COMING

And in news that delighted many BLINKs and Lisa stans, Lisa is finally releasing her own solo music. YG confirmed that she is releasing solo music this summer. Following Jennie and Rose, Lisa is set to be the third member of the group to drop her own music. No other official details have been given yet.
