In case you didn’t know, the sporting world is currently in a tizzy with the recent start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This year, the event is being held in the Middle Eastern Nation of Qatar from November 20 to December 21 as thirty-two teams and nations compete to take home the coveted championship trophy. As one of the biggest sporting events in the entire world that attracts billions of viewers, the World Cup featured an Opening Ceremony that naturally went grand. And what’s better than having one of the members of the biggest boy band in the world perform? That’s what BTS’ Jungkook did as he owned the stage during his segment of the show.

JUNGKOOK AT THE WORLD CUP

Held at the Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar, the opening ceremony featured an epic display of stages, dancers, lights, pyrotechnics, and everything in between. And one of the most notable moments of the night was Jungkook’s performance. The golden maknae has been in Qatar these past few days as he was set to perform in the show. Also, right before the performance, he dropped the catchy single Dreamers, in connection with the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The uplifting anthem was what Jungkook performed as he took to the stage for arguably the biggest solo performance of his career to date. Even though he didn’t have his members join him on stage, JK is more than capable of owning the performance. He looked confident and like he was having fun as he killed his song and dance number in his all-black fit. Later on, he was joined by local artist Fahad for a coming together of different cultures.

He did great and the fact that our golden maknae had one of his biggest solo stages in one of the most talked about events in the world is quite fitting, honestly. Not only does this marks Jungkook’s most notable solo stage to date, but also the first-ever Korean to have performed at the FIFA World Cup. (And that’s on a history-making performance.)

PROUD HYUNGS

There were over 60,000 people in the arena and hundreds of millions of people watching at home. But probably the people Jungkook was most happy to watch him perform were the rest of his members. RM, Suga, V, and J-Hope all took to Instagram to share their excitement about Jungkook’s performance. His hyungs were watching their maknae take on the World Cup, a feat the group themselves have yet to do—and Jungkook did it all by himself. We have a feeling they couldn’t be prouder. Congratulations Jungkook!
