Turning The Sour Into Sweet, Olivia Rodrigo Proves Why Honest Feelings Make Her Fearless

line
Good for her, we’re happy as hell.

It may have been just a few months, but Olivia Rodrigo has proven to be one of, if not the biggest pop star of the moment—and with good reason, too.

Olivia Rodrigo is inescapable, not that we’re complaining, of course. But it’s strange that this time last year, she was just known as that girl from the Disney channel, making compelling turns on shows such as Bizaardvark and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Today, with a breakthrough year safely tucked under belt, she stands to be one if, if not the biggest pop stars of the moment. In just a few months, the Filipino American actress and singer has gone from recounting her romantic route in the tender and aching, drivers license, being referenced as a pop culture touchstone on SNL, and breaking even more records with her crisp, clear, and consistent debut album, Sour. All this was achieved and much more in the bubble of the pandemic, proving that capturing that elusive lightning in the bottle is not impossible, a crisis notwithstanding.

Brimming with charisma and relatability that endears her to many with every play of her music, stream of her album, and snippet of songs on TikTok, it is the generous honesty that keeps people wanting to hear more from Olivia Rodrigo. It’s not as if she’s consciously out to bare her truths in a sonically controversial way. Here, we have a young girl who simply wants to share her story and hopes that at least one will relate to it. Well, in the case of Olivia Rodrigo, we have to multiply the singularity by a few millions. By staying true to her honest feelings, she becomes the very definition of the Big, Bold, and Brave Awards as the Fearless Global Filipino. (The unintentional connection to Taylor Swift’s album was just a sweet but meaningful coincidence.)
