A beginning of a new year means a lot of things. And for all the music lovers out there, that means an entire year’s worth of brand new bops and bangers. Already, the first two weeks of January have given us some memorable tracks we’re adding to the 2023 playlist. Get ready to enjoy some of the best new tracks the month has to offer, so far.
FLOWERS – MILEY CYRUS
New year, new banger from Miley Cyrus. This pop-funk number sees Miley reclaim who she is in a smooth anthem on self-love and courage. We’re 200% here for Miley reworking the chorus of Bruno Mars’ When I Was Your Man, but with an empowered spin. If this is how her upcoming eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation is going to sound like, consider it pre-saved.
VIBE – TAEYANG AND JIMIN
Taeyang new exactly what he was doing when he named his comeback single Vibe and included Jimin in it. It’s a number that fits them like a glove as the love song has got us moving and grooving and feeling a certain kind of way. This legendary collab did not disappoint.
GIMME – SAM SMITH, KOFFEE, JESSIE REYEZ
We’re here for Sam Smith’s new era all about feeling yourself. And Gimme gives just that as this island-inspired track is equal parts low-key and seductive with a spicy beat.
FILIPINA KILLA – ZAE
Zae’s latest single is oozing tuldok reyna energy from start to finish. The track’s beat serves as Zae’s playground where her bars make it now that she is that girl.
OVER TONIGHT – STACEY RYAN
Aside from Stacey’s impeccable vocals, what really does it for us is the band instrumentals. It livens up this love song about turning a moment with a special someone into something more to new levels.
SIYA – ONE CLICK STRAIGHT
The vibes come fast with this cut from the OPM’s latest full length album of the same name. It also serves as a taste of the audio experience you’re going to feel once you press play on their second album.
I ≠ DOLL – HUH YUNJIN
When LE SSERAFIM’s Yunjin said that she wanted to change the idol industry, she meant it. This rock-based, trap-genre track carries her message for people who overlook inner value and are absorbed with outward appearances. The extremely personal track is not only a bop, but a direct response to those who see idols as less than human, a message we hope more idols champion.
C’EST COMME CA – PARAMORE
As we get closer to the release of the Paramore’s long-awaited new album, the band dropped a new track for us to enjoy that leans more on their playful rocking side.
OMG – NEWJEANS
NewJeans is truly breath of fresh air that K-pop has been needing. Their latest single OMG is just that as the girls got us saying the same thing with its smooth R&B production and catchy chorus.
BUTTEFLIES – DENISE JULIA
Denise really is fully getting into her R&B vibe with the way her latest single invites the listener to feel themselves in the seductive beats.
ORBIT – VVYND
If ever you’ve had those moments where you just wanted to break free, VVYND’s latest single Orbit was made for you. The R&B track encapsulates the Jakarta-based musician’s transformative journey from a place filled with self-doubt to emancipation from a compromise-filled life.
NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE – EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL
The comebacks aren’t stopping this 2023 as the latest musical icons to make a return is UK duo Everything But The Girl. For their first single in decades (and lead single off their new album coming in April), Nothing Left To Lose features Thorn’s affecting and richly-textured voice overlayed on a hypnotic and stimulating beat.
